Insufficient service when equipment fails.

I contracted with ADT Security System 9/19/09. I am 80 years old and reside in a two-level home; kitchen, dining room on first level and living room and 3 bedrooms on the second level, with a door leading to the roof. Access doors (Front and Back) are first level. It was suggested that a Motion Detector be installed in the dining room and it would not be necessary to wire the windows as they cranked out. The three doors were wired and a Control Panel was installed near the entry. I also received a Keychain Touchpad.

Recently, the Control Panel was beeping every minute. When I pressed System Status it informed me "low battery" in dining room motion detector. I then called ADT and spoke to a technician on 9/11/15 and told him I was an elderly woman living alone and needed this noise to stop. He told me to hit the System Status button twice and that would resolve it for the meantime. I told him I needed someone to be sent to my home to change the battery in this motion detector as I certainly wasn't able. He asked that I hold on while he would get a job number. I held on for 45 minutes listening to sales pitch recordings over and over and hung up. I called a second time and got a female representative and she looked over the situation and told me the last rep transferred me to the Service Department and that's the reason I was holding for all that time because they are very busy. She then informed me that the earliest date I could have would be 9/22. I expressed my annoyance as I still was being plagued with beeps and she said I had to press the Status button twice and the "disarm" button before it, and that would shut it down for 4 hours. Now, how exasperating is that! I'm paying for "protection" I am not receiving so I told her that I should get a refund to compensate for a half month's service. She didn't respond and I hung up.

To-date, no one has contacted me with a job number for the supposed service call on 9/22. I can't get a decent night's rest as I have to keep disarming the system every 4 hours, and when I have to leave it beeps until I arrive back home. Also, I feel very insecure sleeping upstairs knowing I have no protection. I can't believe they can't offer emergency calls especially knowing I am elderly and alone. My problem would take all of 20 minutes, if that! If their Service Department is so very busy it must indicate that their equipment is substandard and breaks down a lot.

After this battery replacement is resolved (for which I'll probably pay through the nose) I will arrange to go with a more reputable security service than ADT. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! AND, IF I SUFFER A STROKE OR MY HOME IS INVADED I PLAN TO SUE!
