CLOSED MY ACCOUNT WITHOUT CAUSE

I was an American Express customer for 22 years. Originally it was for my company, Over the years I never had an issue.
In October 2018 my business was severely affected by the wildfires that swept across Los Angeles county, in that my primary client lost his home and was unable to continue our work together. This crippled my business.

For the next several months I tried desperately to save the company that has my name since 1997. In 2019 I was seemingly out of the woods, when, due to the stress, I suffered a massive heart attack. When I awoke one morning, I found that my personal Am Ex card had been sent to collections and my online account had been shut down. Now, keep in mind, I have never missed a payment on the personal card. Never even been late, or had any issue with it. It was just swept up in the handling of the corporate card and sent to a debt collector. When I called the customer service department, I was told there was nothing they could do to help me. Even though I had made all my payments and had never been late, there was nothing anyone could do.
The card was at the collection agency, end of story.

Now things gets interesting. I managed to get the e mail address of the CEO of Am Ex. He actually responded and passed me on to someone he said would help me. A week later the guy called me back and said I was out of luck and that there was nothing they could do. At the end of the day, I was no longer going to be their customer and thus, they didn't really care what happened to me. This company is ruthless and have no soul. And it truly starts at the CEO and goes all the way down the ladder. This guy knew what I was going through, and didn't care a tiny bit. I guess when you make 17m a year you can afford not to care about the little guy.

Doubling credit limit without customer authorization

Wow, most people complain about their credit limit being cut, not increased. However, if your son hadn't been using the card to make purchases, you would not have had such a big bill, so I agree with JM, you should make your son pay the difference, and if it were me, I would talke the card away from him too.

Doubling credit limit without customer authorization

I have been a member of American Express for the last 8 years. My limit on my account was set at $10.000. My son is also on the account and share another card. In December 2011, my bill was $19, 873.00 . I was besides myself and thought an error had occur. I called Amex who put me in touch with a supervisor named Anette Sinclair. Mrs. Sinclair could not understand why the credit limit had been doubled without my authorization. She admitted that there had been a glitch in the system and they were sorry. I paid my share of $10.000 but felt not responsible for the remainder of the balance. Yes, my son did incur the expenses but this is why my limit was $10.000. This sum of money is nearly someone salary for a year. 3 months have passed, I have no news from Mrs Sinclair neither from anyone at American Express. This is really outrageous.

Doubling credit limit without customer authorization

You should be upset with your son, who evidently rang the bill up without your knowledge.
