Coustomer Care

Ms. Ashely Taylor took the payment over the phone and assured me that my services would be reinstated in one to two hours. When my services were not reconnected I phoned AT&T services again only to speak with the person named Ms. Engle’s who had given me a false name her name was Shannon . Ms. Engels’s (Shannon) introduced herself as the Manager in Account receivables and explained that Ms. Ashely did not make a payment agreement with myself and that was not the practice of AT&T also if I wanted my services reconnect I would have to make the full balance payment. I expressed my disapproval with AT&T and stated that I will began looking for a new provider. Ms. Engle’s (Shannon) asked if I wanted her to set up disconnection on TODAY! Though I was not happy with her mockery she displayed the level of cockiness that signifies your customer care services.
I also spoke to Mrs. Green whom also introduced herself as a Manager in Account receivables regarding making a formal complaint. Mrs. Green suggested that I write a letter and send it to Carol Stream Illinois. It’s my understanding that this is your payment center. I am really not sure what type of company you are running but the $2,724 .00 annually that I pay AT&T clearly is not wanted.

High-speed DSL

I have had AT&T high-speed DSL for well over two years. I have had this ISP for so long because of all the other known ISPs in my area they have been "the best," the best of course being subjective. At current I pay 35$/mo for up to 3MB/d, I realize this is optimal speed results, however I have consistently experience far from optimal results:

The speeds, and conditions I have experienced with this ISP have been so rotten that I have gotten in the habit of running SCHEDULED speed tests. Every-time I call into support I get an automated message that says they need to run tests on my line and I need to restart my modem and call back in 24hours. Having an automated system tell me what I already know, AND having to wait 24 hours for a problem I am experiencing NOW is not very helpful. On the rare occasion that I actually had the misfortune in talking with someone, and I have no problem with outsourcing, I could hardly understand what they were saying and vise verse. I have a degree in Networking Administration and I am pursuing another degree in Systems Analysis, schooling alone shows I have a decent knowledge of how a computer works. However, every actual person to person call would have me run though the same routine despite me telling them what I have already done to remedy the situation.

With AT&T I would go days without internet, days waiting for support, and then days waiting for a technician to show up at a scheduled time to not even show up at all. Again I have only been with AT&T for so long because of all the other known ISPs in this area AT&T has been the best, that being subjective.

Recently another few problem have sprung up with this ISP. The first is sharing bandwidth between computers on the same network. In the past, though speeds have fluctuated, both my Wife and myself have been able to co-exist with our internet connection. Simply loading Facebook on her computer will bring internet speeds to sub-dialup on mine. Running some QA tests on my machine for work would block the internet all together on others.

The second problem is latency. Using The ICSI Netalyzr:

"We estimate your uplink as having 7000 msec of buffering. This is quite high, and you may experience substantial disruption to your network performance when performing interactive tasks such as web-surfing while simultaneously conducting large uploads. With such a buffer, real-time applications such as games or audio chat can work quite poorly when conducting large uploads at the same time."

Timeouts are a frequent occurrence, even when only one system is being used in the house. Time and time again I have told AT&T that I work out of my house and that my connection is incredibly important, disconnects slow downs and latency are not acceptable. Time and time again, I go days without internet.

When I manage to get a technician out, with zero effort on their part they come take the old modem and leave <15 min everytime. No further testing, just new equipment every-time. And everytime I end up back on the phone with AT&T disputing the equipment charge.

Lastly, and here is the kicker, recently AT&T decided to up their price on package I have from 35$ to 46$. I got off the phone with their billing department not too long ago because I noticed without and notification on my bill, my bill had increase from 35$ to 37.15$ I was informed by AT&T that approximately 1 year ago under the "news" section on my January bill they had send out a notification stating that the price would begin to increase in 2012. For reference, my bill comes on a piece of paper that is roughly legal sized 8.5x14 and the news section is near the bottom 1/3 of the page. The length of this "news" section ins maybe 1.5 inch in height. Something that can easily be overlooked, especially when news of my bill being increase 11$/mo was only on one bill. I was informed via the billing department that "I should feel lucky since I am still paying less then the day to day rate, however your bill will increase until is matches the current rate."
Really? I should feel lucky for choosing you as my ISP and you increased my bill and I'm not paying the current rate but will be? What company says that their customers should feel lucky about a price hike on top of a ridiculous connection anyway?

Well I just found out that Comcast serves my area. Internet + TV is only a fraction more then what the new month to month of 46$ would be at AT&T AND I will be getting connection speeds of 25MB/s.

If you are in the Thumb of Michigan and are looking for an ISP I highly suggest you look elsewhere. There are plenty of local mom and pop places, that while may have their faults, will not give you the trouble that AT&T has given me.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

AT& T HAS GONE completely downhill in regard to customer service. Anytime, I call for billing questions, or any reason for that fact, I am put on hold, transferred, call dropped, back on hold, transferred, transferred again, and again and again. Then call dropped. Call back, go through the whole name, address, phone number, etc., and transferred once again. On hold for another 1/2 hour and then call dropped. This scenerio has gone on for 2-3 hours at a time. I can't figure it out. No other company has customer service like this. My last experience resulted in 14 transfers, 3 dropped calls and 3 hours of wait time. I had an AT&T representative HANG UP on me when I asked for her name because of her rudeness. When they say "this call is recorded for customer satisfaction..." AT&T needs to review those calls and take action against the rude, unknowledgable representatives they have hired. Customers should not put up with this-leave AT&T---get a cell phone with Verizon, or go to SAGE telecom. Do not pay AT&T for service when their customer service is AWFUL!
