Aveda

Lets be honest. To the guest that get services from an institute you signed up to get your hair done from a student. so the complaint's
about prices go to a real salon and get quoted a salon price than have a seat and sip your tea. You took the time to invest in not messing your hair up by going to a salon to get serviced. Students are there for 11 hours a day for 3 days a week. If you refuse to take a guest you get sent home and have to make those hours up. That form you sign lets you know that this is a school and you can't sue because its a school. Honestly Aveda doesn't d the best job on education so while you're complaining about something join the club because the complaint's of students is much bigger than 4 inches of hair missing. we spend 20,000 of money that we don't have to get something were not getting. I've had a bad salon experience from a school but my first idea isn't to get online a bash a student who is still learning.

Aveda is a Racist school

This particular campus needs a revaluation..I will be calling state board and setting up lawyers to help them with the revaluation..the instructors are not being professional they involve themselves in students buiness and also involve there own business with students
Is campus is racist against Gays,African Americans and any other race that is not the typical here ... they give awards to th same girls and everynoe and then give one to a person of color maybe to hide the racism better ...it's a school for learning but the are focused on the sale fundraiser for fake cancer patients and this school never wants to give you a receipt or more information on where your money goes ..also this school makes the students clean up for make up hours when we should be learning ...there are students here with disabilities, pregnancies, they don't compromise with these students and there is no excuse as long as it's doctor written and documents if a student needs a 15 minutes sit down or 15 minute walk up and down the hallway to permit them from freaking out, passing or even strokes they should consider that ..one day someone's gonna do something to this campus if they don't stop the shenanigans it's to many women at this school with mental illness and I don't see good things coming out of that especially being right beside a gun range
And they haven't given the instructors or students a break from school ( mental illness no breaks not good just saying ) beware ladies and gentleman
Email me if you would like to protest outside of the school and stop buiness and other students from joining this racist ,culture stealing, scam of a school. I will provide signs ,food ,water because we will be out side from the time the open until they close

Aveda Institute Washington DC Horrible Experience

I've been here a few times and the experience wasn't that bad until recently. I went in asking for a trim and came out with 4 inches less of hair and tons of uneven layers I did not ask for. I had to go home and cut my own hair to make it even; it was almost half an inch off in some spots. I know the teachers are supposed to check in on the students to see if the cut is going well twice throughout the appointment and they did not check in even once. In fact, when the teacher came over at the end, I could barely speak and he just immediately walked away looking annoyed. I had beautiful hair before this and now it is going to take months for it to look remotely normal. I hate to be hard on people learning but people can't learn if teachers aren't around and you don't listen to your clients. A trim does not equal 4 inches with layers.

In addition, when I got home and started cutting my own hair to make it even, I noticed black spots on the back of my neck which I later concluded was black or dark brown hair dye that must have been left of the sink my hair was washed in. That is also extremely concerning because it makes me wonder if they properly clean/sterilize any of their equipment.

Lastly, I noticed that the student cutting my hair had her Instagram written all over her mirror. After a day I thought I would check it to see if it was connected to work she was doing at the Institute. Sure enough, there was a picture of me and my hair on a strangers Instagram without my consent. I thought she was taking pictures for a school portfolio; it did not occur to me she was going to post them on Instagram. To say that is inappropriate is an understatement. Not to mention it could be a legal concern for Aveda.

I loved my long beautiful hair before it was completely chopped off and now I have to live with a mess of a haircut for months. This experience was a nightmare and I will not be going back.

Aveda Institute

I attend Aveda institute Lafayette!
I want to start off by saying this place needs to be investigated! Not just sending in a cooperate member but by sending in a person acting like a student, under coverboss style. This school literally makes "rules" up as they go Because the people In charge are real good at tightening up super fast when they get wind that cooperate is coming in.. The staff members are disrespectful towards the students and disregard the students health and well being. The "educators" if you can even call them that are more caught up in their social lives outside of school then worried about educating their students. On more than one instant they have not only used me but my fellow students as slaves or as my lawyer called it "unpaid workers" where as a student we've been forced to take multiple services back to back all day with out a break or even a lunch. Not only am I a student but I'm a high risk pregnancy. My doctors has sent excuses to notify the school that I need to take frequent breaks because of that reason and they still on several occasions made me take services back to back and not able to break as needed or even have a lunch and if you even get a break not even five minutes later they're coming to the patio and screaming on you to get off the patio. on two occasions they put me in dispense because my nose was bleeding from a complication of my pregnancy BUT I WAS TOLD IM NOT ALLOUD TO SIT IN DISPENSE. I'm not even the only women that has been pregnant and experienced this in the year that I have attended Aveda Institute Lafayette. But honestly what can you expect when the dean is never here and when she is here she's outside working out or bringing her kids in to get free services. But that's only the tip of the iceberg, the "educator" Christina not only choose favorites in the class and actually let a student split up our intro class when we graduated from intro into foundations. She also would call you out for wearing "natural" make up and insisted that you must wear bold colors or she would write you up. That's the tip of the iceberg with Christina, when we had models she would make you look stupid in front of the clients, and it wasn't only during intro she continued to Make students look stupid in front clients and our peers,so bad that even clients have told Christina something. Annie and Keri on a daily basis can be found on the masters floor talking and gossiping about students/clients and sometimes other students are in on it. They both often make rude comments to the students. Clients have often commented about the way Annie carries her self as a staff member and "bullies" the students. The staff also will just pass anybody along, we had the first biggest class at Aveda and we had a guy named Gregory Mouton in our class he would continually make all the female students uncomfortable by making unwanted sexual remarks even to the girls not in our class and nothing was ever done. He would never complete a haircut on the floor by himself or would he ever finish an assesment, but they passed him right on through without even a shed of regret or remorse knowing that he needed more practice and help in that phase and made other students that were capable and finished the assessment retake it where as the guy who couldn't even understand how to section and never even got 1/2 way through the assessments got to just pass. Then Gregory continued to make his clients uncomfortable after we got on the floor and they his clients would complain about him rubbing them for "20/25 minutes" and him heavily breathing on them, a few times his clients would beg us not to leave them alone with him in the pedicure room because they were so creeped out, we notified the educators and the head staff members in charge just brushed it off. And now he's graduated and classes before him have warned they're employers about how creepy and unprofessional he is and if they hire him they will all quit. On another note, the Aveda Lafayette campus is so unprofessional, but as soon as they know cooperate is coming they pretend to be the perfect team and actually act like they wanna be here. Many students have dropped out because they simply hate waking up and coming to school several fellow students have said "I literally want to cry everyday because I don't wanna be here" but they love doing hair and won't let the unprofessionalism and prison like culture of this place get in the way of their dreams. But trust me it's one big rouge, I can say they have a good admissions advisor because Angie sure does sell this place and talk it up. And then Aveda butters you up the first week with camp Aveda.. Good thing we have our learn Aveda and YouTube that teaches us how to do hair because none of the educators do they just make sure we make an 88 on our tests. As in if you failed it the first time they made you "retake it" that day and just slapped and 88 on its considered passing. I could go on and on about the things wrong with this school, the staff but honestly it's up to cooperate to do something about it for the next classes wellbeing!

Aveda institute.

I went to the institute to Color my hair roots. The instructor came and gave instructions tó the student. I WAS in shock after my roots were colored and washed!. They colored my Roots in a very dark brown color!

I complained about it, and the Instructor said "that was my natural hair color!" ...and I told them, "why any of you asked me what color I wanted my roots be colored?...also, you did not see that the rest of my hair was medium blond?...why did you decide for me?
And he said, it is ok. ..I am going to give you a discount!
They do not care!
They charged $41 and with the discount was $38.
I gave tips to the 2 students!...one of them pulled my hair all the time :(

Aveda Toronto is the worst school!

I currently attend the Aveda Institute in Toronto for hairstyling. I thought this would be the best school I could ever go to and was completely sold and amazed by the tour I was given which is why I chose it in the first place. They do really well in selling themselves and make it as though you're getting "the best" education in hair you can. Personally, I believe that I would've been better off and understand much more at a cheaper, not-well known hair school. That is how strongly I feel about Aveda (also their products and colour line suck). They're also too Aveda-cultured which makes me feel like I'm in a cult.
First couple months there, elementary school things: crossword puzzles, word searches, played jeopardy, colouring (not hair), and some stupid fitness dance which does not relate to hair at all. This is literally how they think people learn. Im there to study hair, not do word searches on hair.. They also have a thing called "Wellness" which is also very useless and doesn't relate to hair at all. It's ridiculous.
The educators are the most rude, unprofessional human beings I have ever met. they're either sitting in the stairwell eating, getting massaged by students or getting their hair done when you need them to check up on your client. They really make it seem like they don't wanna be here as they'll ridicule you, even in front of your client embarrassing you or talk crap about you at the back of the room to another educator.
They try to promote such a safe and positive working environment but everyday as I continue to go there I just feel uncomfortable, and like Im being judged. Im just shocked by this school overall and thankful I only have a couple months left.
Also you have no room in your old, dirty lunchroom which btw a few months ago, had a maggot infested refrigerator. And they serve unrefrigerated milk and cream in the coffee they make so ya anyone who's deciding to go there, maybe do a little more research because I'm warning you before you make a mistake. They will literally rob you of your money.

Aveda employee

I'm looking for someone to take my case or even tell me if I have a case. As an Aveda employee I was forced to teach many, many, students without my educators license in a classroom with 35 to 40 students at a time by my self and with no educators license, now I did have my regular cosmetology license from another state not the state of Alabama though, so not only was I made to teach students without my educators license I also did not have the state license, I was lied to about their being an apprentice programme at the Institute to receive my educators license but I never received any training I was thrown into the classroom to teach from the day I started and was told not to breath a word to any of the students, I had classrooms full well over the legal amount of students at a time and all this with no license. I complained to my superiors as I was afraid state board would walk in and catch me teaching 35 students at a time and wind up getting my other state license taken away from me as well as get fined and in very serious trouble. Despite my plees to the company to give me the proper training I was eventually thrown some books and told to study them on my own time. This has happened to other people who have fallen for their fake intern programme too. I dont think that legally the students that were taught in my classroom at the time really have a legitimate cosmetology license now, as all those hours being taught by someone unlicensed in this state is going to count. Since I wrote a formal complaint to Aveda about many unethical things that have transpired I have been singled out and inhave been subjected to coporate bullying in the workplace. I did get both licenses but with no help from the Aveda Institute, and it seems they are up to their old tricks again letting unlicensed educators teach classes. I really need to find a good attorney as their are many more unethical things I have seen go on at that school. As for their mission statement, well let's just say they do not live by it

Aveda Institute

Hey so i couldn't help but notice all the similarities in these complaints. I attended the Aveda Institute in Davie, FL. They ended up terminating me on unfair grounds when i was about 50% done with the program. They told me they were suspending me for three days; which i understand because i had an emotional breakdown in front of the clients; but then they later expelled me for no reason after the 3 days were over. I went to the school to talk about what happened and they told me i was terminated and wouldn't tell me why. So i called my mom and they told her that i threatened to kill someone. This was a complete lie. I am not that type of person, i am a pacifist, i know that i didn't say that. When i told them they were lying they told me not to raise my voice or talk to them like that. I was not raising my voice i was simply trying to speak while crying. My loved ones know me as a person and couldn't believe their accusations. They expelled me on unjust terms without letting me contradict their statement. I then realized that the only reason of termination is if i was a threat to the other students. They pretty much lied and accused me of something i would never say in order to have the right to expel me. I realized that they only suspended me for 3 days so i would pass that 50% mark, and they could receive the full tuition. Well they sure dont know me, and i am filing a lawsuit against them for unfair termination. They not only expelled me, they insulted me and treated me like criminal when i went to speak with them after my 3 days. They followed me with educators and wouldn't let me make a simple phone call to my mother without standing over my shoulders. I am no threat and that was a serious accusation. There is no reason they should be able to get away with taking my hard earned money. If anything i said in this letter relates to your experiences, please contact me.
Thanks for reading this i hope you were able to get justice as well.

graduation

My daughter graduated from Aveda 3 months ago and she still has not received information to take her test to get her license. I am so disgusted with the way she's been treated and she was an excellent student there. If I had known this was going to happen I would have had her go to another school I would never recommend Aveda because of my experience. This is totally unprofessional to me. I have called several times and left messages but still nothing has happened.

Aveda Institute Austin

Hello,

I am currently a student enrolled at the Aveda Institute Austin.
When I first came to tour this school the beauty of the establishment immediately lured me in, I was told it was the "Harvard" of cosmetology schools.
I met with an admissions woman who answered all my questions and seemed more than delighted to enroll me immediately. For me there was no doubt in my mind, this was the place I wanted to begin to hone my desired craft.
Not long after starting the program I learned that this wasn't going to be what I was promised.
The second phase of my program was EXCRUTIATING.
Every day was something. We were provided an jnstructor who chose to tell us her personal life over providing us with set curriculum. The Universal Theory teacher QUIT two weeks into our learning and there after we were provided with little to no eduction on the subject thus further. Particular students were targeted in the class and badgered constantly and treated unfairly.
Many left the program due to such bullying. Many meetings were scheduled with students and the assistant director since there was no director at the time. She simply stated it would get better and to just leave it alone and would go back to sitting in her office texting on her cellphone and making personal calls.
All of this was piled on top of us taking nail guests the other half of the day, sometimes 4 or 5. If the service ran into our lunch then we were only alotted the time left before having to return to class. In some cases a measly 5-10 mins.
Our next phase we began taking hair guests for half of the day.
Again we were pushed to take as many as possible in the time and if we would run behind we would be scolded by instructors and front desk employees while still not being provided adequate education on set curriculum.
The last stretch of my education has been hell.
Taking guests from 11-8 with little to no breaks, the SAME service over and over. Some of the set guideline services that are required to be learned and performed as a cosmetology student I have NEVER done. All this school cares about is selling products, collecting income for our free labor services, up selling, etc.
They do not take the integrity of guests hair into consideration. They have us leave BLEACH on guests hair and scalp for HOURS sometimes. They don't care for our thoughts or feelings. Have little to no compassion for other parts of our lives that we express.
They bully us if we don't do as we are told and constantly talk down on us as if we are not GROWN ADULTS FILLING THIER PAYCHECKS.
I paid for an education not to be an unpaid slave. If I wanted to just take services all day and not learn I would have saved the extra money and went to ANY little beauty school on the side of the road.

I'm looking for anyone who feels the same way. Please contact me.

Misleading and Unfair Prices

I recently booked an appointment with the Aveda institute of Atlanta for student services. When booking the appointment, I explained that I am searching for student stylist with experience working with African American hair. I specifically mentioned that am natural and needed my hair to be washed, straightened, and styled. I asked for price confirmation prior to booking and was quoted $18. Once I arrived, I was told that the price to style my hair would be $78. According to the student, the cost to wash and blow dry my hair is $18. Heat application would be an additional $60.

I asked to speak with the manager and shared my experience. I expected the manager to apologize for the confusion and honor the $18 price since I was misquoted. Instead, she meekly explained that the team members taking appointments are not knowledgeable of prices. She had a non chalant attitude in which her posture clearly screamed, "So What... I don't care. That's our policy so deal with it!"

In my opinion, the price structure at the Aveda Instutute is bias. Only a select number of racial groups can get their hair washed and are style ready with a brush. Ethnic groups with kinky hair require heat to straighten. Why exploit people that require heat by charging an additional $60? Is it that your company has a preferred customer profile and that's a strategy to limit or keep certain customers from visiting your institute?

It's not that I can't afford the price , but it's the principle of how you conduct business. People come to a school expecting to pay lower than market rates since services are completed by students. There are risks involved. Your senior management staff should seriously look at changing prices and make sure staff is knowledgable about all aspects of the business (prices, customer services etc.) The price quoted at your Institute was comparable to prices at a professional salon. Why would I pay that type of money for services from a student?

I'm really disappointed, shocked and appalled by my experience. Further, I feel violated and racially exploited
by your prices. I have patronized Aveda by buying products for years. Not only will I toss my products, I will tell everyone within an earshot about my horrible experience. This is NOT acceptable for a so-called social responsible company.

Aveda

Aveda is all hype. They treat their students like cattle. They say you can only miss a certain number of days and no matter what ( even if you were hospitalized like me) no absence is excused. I got terminated and charged extra money that my grant and loan had already paid, plus they kept my living expenses. I have a baby and was not working. Now I have so many unpaid bills. They have no heart and do not follow their own handbook. My teacher did not like me and only failed me on the test to move on. I know what I'm doing. I did study and have never failed a test my whole life until this. They favor certain students and also let them miss as many days as they want. Do not go there. Total rip-off! I feel like they ruined my life right now. I really hope my lawyer can get my money back. Also they still have me as a full time student with the board of education so I can't even move on. It has been 3 months.

Do not attend Aveda Institute Toronto

DO NOT GO TO THE AVEDA INSTITUTE IN TORONTO! This place is over crowded, dirty (your lunch room is in a mold infested basement where the sewer backs up at least a few times a year), unprofessional and disorganized. The social environment is toxic, with your "educators" sitting in the stairwell getting massaged by students. The educators are over worked and tired and most have never worked in a salon. You will be faced daily with emotional abuse, unprofessional behaviour, and bullying. You will not get breaks during your nine hour days once you start taking clients regularly, and will be doing the same haircut on clients coming in over and over. The education stops a few months into the program. This is not a positive place and the things that happen here is shocking. Most of the employees have been so wrapped up in the warped Aveda culture that they think it is normal. Beware!

horrible experience

Do not come to Aveda is it just one huge scam, I have almost completed my 6 months of the esthiology program and I really just feel like a slave working for free. We are there for 11 hours 3 days a week and all they want you to do is perform services on guest and not receive a tip from them, it goes to "charity". I have not been tought all of the things that I am paying for on my curricuculm only thing is the Aveda way of doing things just so you can perform the services and bring them in money. The instructors are rude and have little respect for the students as if we are not all of age and paying them! And the professional development department is rude as we'll they always have a stank attitude everyday. They are unorganized , inconsistent, and rude.
