Fraudulant Billing

As evidenced here and on other websites, CenturyLink has a long record of fraudulent charges against their customers.

On 23 October 2020, I called CenturyLink to cancel my internet service to be effective on 30 October 2020. The agent on the phone gave me a confirmation number D19569331.

We sold our house and vacated the premises on 30 October 2020.

In January 2021, I received a bill from CenturyLink for $285.00.

I called CenturyLink and gave the agent the confirmation number verifying I had cancelled. The agent stated there was no record of that confirmation number. Instead, the agent said my record shows I requested service on 30 October 2020. This is absurd since I had been their customer for over fifteen years.

The agent attempted to trick me into cancelling the service on the date I was calling, but I told her I already cancelled the previous October, and their failure to shut off service was their problem, not mine. After a lengthy argument, the agent said there was nothing else she could do for me and was about to hang up the phone.

I demanded to speak to her supervisor. What followed was a few minutes of excited conversation between the agent and others in the background, after which she returned to the phone and told me I would be connected to another agent. I had to wait half an hour to talk to the first agent, and now I had to wait another half hour before the second agent came to the phone.

I explained everything to the second agent, who identified himself as Alfredo. He was able to find the cancellation with the confirmation number I provided. He saw that there were no charges for November, and a $285 charge for December, and then an $85 charge for January. He admitted that made no sense. Alfredo asked for my patience while he went through each month’s bill and deleted all charges. He said I would receive another bill, but it would be for zero dollars and that would be the end of it.

On 15 February 2021, I received a bill from CenturyLink for $85.00.

The hours I spent on the phone with CenturyLink agents has availed nothing. Next month, I will receive another bill for $170 plus late fees. This bill will continue to increase indefinitely, negatively impacting my credit score and possibly prevent me from obtaining internet service when we move into our new home later this year. This could also result in higher home and car insurance rates. After a certain amount of time, CenturyLink will turn the matter over to a collections agency, and I will have to deal with that nightmare.

Instead of making more fruitless phone calls, I will be requesting help from the state attorney general and the local television station.

No Ethics of Bussiness

Be aware that Century Link makes BIG money from PROMO scam. After a couples of weeks of service with them, I run into a lot of technical problems in a Friday night when I had to call tech support. I called 5-6 persons for half of the night at the other end mostly women answered with the same east-Indian accent, reciting a temple ritual asking all verification questions and the hung up on me. Time passed so fast and after 4 hours I got tired of not being able to fix the issues. The whole week-end I didn’t find anybody to talk to or complain about the issue their Customer Service is completely shut down. Monday morning at 8:00 A.M. I told the guy Braden, that I returned the modem (that I paid $100 for it) and want my service disconnected. The early penalty for cancellation was $200, money that they make very easy even by putting customers for a long period compare to COMCAST that offers 30 days’ money back trial period. All this period I could not have an account attached to my CenturyLink profile because the account number they provided for me was too short (fake phone number) not recognizable by their system. Technically I had no valid account open for the whole two weeks’ period. Braden (ID#AB83506) almost laughing, told me that he is sorry to see me leave and he already talked to corporate office and they could not wave the $200 cancellation fee but, he promised that in few years all these problems will be fixed. My feeling is that even with losing customers is a win-win scam busyness that people are not aware of.

Bill keeps increasing - not what quoted

I was quoted $32.95 for internet only and promised it would be that for the next two years. Welp! The next bill was $120! What can I do to get this under control? I can't afford the price and also can't afford to spend over an hour on the phone figuring it out!

Bill keeps increasing!!

We signed up with Century Link Bundle for what we thought was going to be a monthly fee of $80.96 for 1 year starting October 2015. 11/22/15: Bill was $81.76. 12:22:15 Bill was $82.40. 1/19/16 Bill was $98.91; 2/19/16 Bill was $92.96; 3/19/16 to 9/19/16 Bill was $85.93 per month; 10/19/16 Bill was $91.74; NEVER ANY UNDERSTANDABLE REASON FOR THESE VARYING CHARGES!

11/21/2016 Bill was $153.98. (ALMOST DOUBLE THE ORIGINAL OFFER!)
12/21/2016-2/21/2016 Bill was $158.98

3/2016 Bill has increased to $164.98 NO REASON TO INDICATE $6 INCREASE!

So this is how Century Link treats its customers. Pretend to offer a good package; And if the customer continues double the bill and keep hiking it as often as possible.

SHAME ON YOU CENTURY LINK!! I guess only new customers get a decent offer. Screw the loyal customers!

Computer damage

The @ease computer support program from Century Link trashed my computer, I called complaint dept. found out that when you sign up through the business office they are suppose to read to you a disclosure that say's "use us at your own risk", so of course they failed to tell me that, because they wanted to sell me and not disclose that part of the agreement, which no one would agree to that, it would be stupid. I believe this is willful fraud of misrepresenting a service for monetary gain.So now I have my computer in a repair shop and century link denies any responsibility even though the repair shop read the tech's notes that messed the operating system up and stated they are scam artist. How can we let non trusting rich no care people in our area and do nothing in the state of Washington. I am shocked and they- century link should be ashamed.

My bill grows and grows

I thought Comcast was a criminal enterprise... they are pikers compared to Century LInk? Why the monopoiy?

I signed up for internet and phone. No high speed required. $79.95. That was November of 2015. By May that bill was 123.00

then it was $126... and my latest is !30.00

Each time I call, I get some smart mouth young men who gleefully tell me I just don't understand the fees.... but I have no where to go. I would just cancel but the other option is Comcast and they are criminals as well... I didn't renew with them because the exact same thing happened... only they topped out at $!13..

It seems as though each time I argue with them... another fee is put on by the slick guy I just spoke to... my bill goes up depending on how I react to the person on the phone... I think they punish me for being too angry.

Why can't Americans have some competition ... talk about CORRUPTION.... does anyone think a Clinton president will help this..

they probably give the DEMS millions to keep it like this... and GOP .. millions when they have the offices.

I hate them so much... but I"m too old to do anything but pay.

I pray Donald Trump is elected... he won't stand for this.

My bill keeps going up

Ever since my move (within the same building) my bill has been climbing and climbing. We are up now by $6.00 since October of last year. I have internet service and basic phone and I get help with the cost of my phone service. The fact that NO ONE will answer any of my question drives me bonkers. I am 76 years old and on a very low fixed income. In order to lower my cost I talked about using my old modem, which I bought from your company several years ago with an onshore agent a while back. We talked for a very long time and he transferred me to your Loyalty Department (he said it would take a while since he was going to explain what he was trying to accomplish in this regard. Well, long story short, I was disconnected after a few minutes of waiting and ...

Dealing with CenturyLink outside of onshore tech support is an absolute nightmare. The billing department is decidedly the worst.

Late Fees

CenturyLink would hold my automatic payment post date until after payment was due to collect a $5.00 late fee every other month. I contacted them several times about it, but they would do nothing about it. I made an extra payment to get ahead (they already charge a month in advance) and changed the payment date so they would receive it three weeks early. I pay a set amount automatically every month. They still charged me a $5.00 late fee when I owed 50 cents at billing time! I had already upped my payment to prevent that from happening the following month, but they will do ANYTHING to apply a $5.00 late fee on my bill. How can you have a late fee on a service you have not even received?

Late Fees

Dear Totally ripped off,

Make no mistake Centurylink is a criminal organization that systematically extorts money from it customers. I have a very similar problem and they said "talk to the fcc" which I come to find is not who to contact. They say this to misdirect and otherwise scare people into inaction. I have spoken at length with them and found they carefully craft answers so that no verbiage can be used in a negative way. However some of us kwno how to parse their words and are bringing the truth of light to the forefront.

Plainly put, the only people who think Centurylink billing practices are fine, are people that don't actually look at their bill.
