Declined Check

I was at a Dollar General Store in Toledo IL 8-27-16. My check was declined, which I had several thousand dollars in the account. Dollar General's manager did not return my call. After finally reaching the manager, I was told to call corporate, after explaining that the declined check made no sense and I wanted to know why that happened and to make certain it didn't happen again. Not much concern. Corporate didn't seem to be concerned, either. Referred me to Certegy. If Dollar General doesn't want my business, I will shop elsewhere.

Declined checks

8/3/14 wrote a check for $32.07 to Kohls in Cincinnati that was accepted. Later in the day tried to write a check for $282.45 to Justice and one for $147.27 to Finish Line, again in Cincinnati, both were declined. Called Certegy the following Monday and ordered a consumer report because getting through to a representative is impossible. Before the report was received tried to write a check to Lane Bryant in Crestview, KY on 8/9/14, and once again was turned down. Now I've been embarrassed several times and don't know why....I'm hot! Since then I have been on the phone with all three stores' corporate offices and tried unsuccessfully to talk to someone at Certegy. Received the "Consumer Report File Disclosure" last night and it states my check to Justice was not authorized because "...our records indicated that the same check or payment had been submitted to us before, and authorization had been declined." WHAT? First of all I've never had a check declined, anywhere, ever. Have excellent credit and plenty of money in the bank. The check for Finish Line was declined because "...this transaction fell outside the guidelines Certegy has established for authorization." Again, WHAT? So, I called the 800 # provided in the consumer report and talked to a rep who finally admitted they did not have a record that one of my checks had been declined prior to 8/3/14 and that "outside of the guidelines" may mean over a certain amount of money. What I've read on the internet is probably true - merchants want everyone to use a credit or debit card. I guess the $3.5 million fine Certegy paid last year didn't teach them a lesson because they are at it again with false information. So sad.

declined check

I was shopping at Kohls on July 30 and my check for $29 was declined. I have shopped at Kohls for years and this has never happened before. There was plenty of money in my checking account so there was no valid reason for them to decline my check. I called the Kohls store after I returned home and they told me they couldn't tell me why my check was declined because it was
a confidential matter and to call the 800 number on the back of my check. There was no number on the back of my check. However they did give my the number for Certegy which as far as I am concerned is a very nasty company to deal with. I paid cash and it will be a long time before I shop at Kohls again. If there is ever a law suit against Certegy you can count me in.

check declined

I was buying groceries at Pick N Save and used a check because I left my debit card at home accidentally. To my dismay and anger my check was declined. It was so embarassing and made me angry. I have plenty of money in my checking account and credit score of 800! Certegy automated service said nothing was wrong, but I would have to pay with another method. Of course I would have used a credit/debit card if I had one! Give me a break! The grocery store asked if I wanted to drive back with my credit card. Yeah, right! I'm going to drive home, find my card and drive all the way back for the groceries because they chose to decline my check. I don't think so.

So I then reluctantly went to Woodman's and got the same groceries for $10 less and guess what my check was accepted there fine! Will be doing business with them from now on. Screw Pick N Save and certegy! Plus the check out girl was young, rude and smirking and didn't even have her light on and was told to turn her light back on and take customers!
