BEWARE!!! This was the second time that i went to this particular Cheddars, and the first time they added in a $5 tip even though i left a tip in cash. This second visit, they did the same, except this time they charged me $8 more than my bill, even though i left a $7 tip. My bill was $29.32 and my bank statement read $37.32, and of course they didn't give me my receipt so i can't prove it! Just want people to know that they are thief's in that restaurant!

Auto gratuity applies to parties of 6 or more and even then it is usually not this high a percentage. $8 on a $29 meal is 27%. Standard tip percentage is usually around 15-20% and when it is an auto gratuity enforced on a large party, it is usually no more than 15% at the most from personal experience.

What the guy said about gratuities applying to a party of six or more is not true. Work it out with management, they are pretty good about these things. Show him your mank statement and have him look into it.

cheesy, it is true and I have experienced it before. It is not a law, but more a company policy if anything.

Please read below from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratuity

In certain situations, the restaurant may assess a gratuity to the bill automatically without customer input, which is called an "autograt."[46] The most frequent reason for this is for large groups, such as six or more, which many restaurants as a matter of policy add a standard predetermined amount (~18%) that may be labeled as a gratuity or as a "service charge" in lieu of the gratuity.[47] In less frequent cases, an autograt may be placed on every customer's bill. Reputable restaurants post their policy on a sign or the menu, or require servers to inform their patrons of such charges before they order. This charge can be verified by the customer on the bill to avoid tipping in addition to the service charge.

Yes, as I said, it is up to company policy. However, the should have this policy posted in plain sight or inform the customers beforehand.

Regardless, 27% seems very unreasonable.

You are jumping to erroneous conclusions olisbos. As I stated in that other complaint, I was merely trying to help, not throw stones. I'm sure that even you can agree that complaint was rife with errors, not merely typos.
