Recently there was a management change at Coastal Cinemas in Shallotte, North Carolina. Thirteen employees were let go as new management "cleaned house" and my son was one of them. My son has special needs (epilepsy and cerebral palsy) and managed to perform his duties as usher for nearly seven years at that theater before his termination. I contacted Chuck Dewitt about his termination and my son was reinstated. I knew that new management would not like that and would be targeting him as soon as he returned to work. I was right. Management immediately reduced his shifts from 2 per week to 1 per week... they then began letting him come in and clock in and immediately would send him home because of being "over budget." No call prior to his shift letting him know not to come in. Management was snarky and sarcastic to him at every opportunity. And the past two weekends (after 6 1/2 years of nothing of the sort) he was written up twice for being disrespectful and insubordinate. In 21 years, I have NEVER, ever had those words associated with my son. During the first 6+ years he worked for Frank theaters, he maintained a comfortable and respectful working relationship with various management. He happily worked 2 shifts a week up to 13 shifts in a row when he was needed. He never got or asked for a raise. He was never written up for anything like disrespect and was well-liked by the small community movie-goers. The month before new management came in, he was awarded Employee of the Month. Community members would often tell me how much they enjoyed seeing him at the theater. The current management at Coastal Cinemas in Shallotte is vindictive and and treats well-loved, hardworking employees poorly. The current GM brings his wife and kids to the theater to loiter during his work shift... unprofessional. Not to mention the carpets and seats in the theaters are filthy. I will not step foot into the theater again until the carpets are changed, the seats are cleaned, and the management is replaced.
