Amana Distinctions A/C System

Bought a Brand New System 3 years ago @ $5500. Recently had the Local Installer out twice to load Refrigerant (5lbs in all) which quickly leaked out. The diagnosis was found to be a badly leaking coil and the Installer said that they were not going to fill it again because that would be a waste of money and time. They ordered a New Coil from the Factory and told me that the lead time was 6-8 weeks for the Coil. The Factory had NONE in Reserve and was manufacturing them Real Time for Homeowners with Amana Units. We are on Day # 6 in Sunny Hot Florida with No A/C in the house! They say that there are not enough people effected to warrant a Case/Suit, come sit in my 85 Degree house for a few days and see how that changes your mindset!!

Error Code B1

Replaced a 13 year old 5 Ton Goodman heat pump with a new 5 Ton 16 Seer unit and top of the line Honeywell thermosat to take advantage of all the functions the heat pump offered. About 3 weeks after the installation cooling stopped and system reported a B1 error code. The company who installed the unit came out, checked the unit over and reset the fault. After that the system started cooling and worked for about a week before doing the same thing. This time the error code would not clear and the technician had to order a new control board for the air handler unit. 3 days later the board arrived and was installed... all worked properly for another couple of days and then stopped cooling again. The short of this story is that in order to get this "new" unit working, sorta, on the advice of the technician and since the local Tech Support Person for Goodman heat pumps had no answers a Honeyswell VisionPRO thermostat was installed. This got us through the summer months and we were grateful that the heating function seemed to work OK. We're now into another cooling season and no one has an answer to whats wrong. In fact the system has gone down several times with the same B1 error code. I understand that this is not an unusual problem and wold appreciate seeing posts from anyone else experiencing this problem. I must say that if it weren't for the quality and knowledge of the company we're woring with we would have spent the summer in our room over the garage which has a fully function, lower tech, through the wall 14 year old heat pump.

Evaporator coil leak AGAIn

We purchased our house new in 2014. The Goldman unit stopped cooling this summer just shy of 2 years and the coil was bad the first technician came out and charged 180 dollars to put in 2lbs of freon And tell us there is a leak but it is problem under warranty
I called the next day to have someone come out and conduct a leak check and it was determined that the coils are really bad and they will have to be replaced with the warranty would cover
As you know the month of August in Orlando the temperature is very high and we have been without an AC unit of over five days
We have spent hundreds of dollars in hotels rooms along with hundreds of dollars to get the unit repaired and we still don't have a date when we are getting replacement
I would like to file a formal complain with your board along within the state to get my money back and get my replacement unit expedited we have a baby 14 months old and we can afford leaving in a hotel for more than what we have already done
I can be reach via email at [email protected] or via phone at 407-230-1508
Thank you

Inside evaporator coils 3 Goodman 2.5 ton units defective coils

I have 3 goodman 2.5 ton units. All have defective evaporator coils. Several technicians have been out and delivered same message. Th goodman units purchased during 2004-2006 have known issues documented on these evaporator coils. I can't afford to purchase 3 new units and absorb all the cost associated with repairing what is known as a defective product. Considering so many people having same issues why weren't there some sort of recall from the company to make all affected whole. That's what good responsible customer focused companies do.

Amana Goodman Condenser

Had a 16 seer AC installed in 2008 and had to have the evaporator replaced under warranty in 2012. The replaced evaporator sprung leaks again 2014. This is absolutely ridiculous having to shell out 1K for yet another faulty evaporator install labor and Puron. Not to mention the first one was $450 with additional 100s of dollars spent to add coolant about 2 times a year for 4 years.

Replaced the entire system in 2014 with another brand.

Goodman Amana AC

In 2012, our first Goodman unit failed after 13 years in service (builder installed). Since then, our new unit has had 3 refrigerant leaks repaired and a run capacitor replaced. In other words, it fails once a year- and usually when it's 100 degrees +! As I write this, the repair technician is on the roof replacing the control tube assembly, and is going to look at the blower motor, as it is a little noisy at times. Fortunately, we bought a 10 year warranty, so none of this has come out of our pocket, but the inconvenience and discomfort of having the AC quit in the Summertime is annoying. Regarding the class-action lawsuit, I read that it was recently dismissed:

Goodman condenser muffler failure

HVAC maintenance contract (not original installer) yesterday found where the muffler inside the condenser unit had broken loose, releasing all the refrigerant. He said it appeared to be a manufacturing defect where the joint was improperly brazed or was too weak. $900 to attempt a repair, but there is a risk the compressor was compromised as it continued to run without any of the necessary lubrication that is normally in the refrigerant. Poor quality product, poor design. Stay away from Goodman.

Goodman Amana A/C evaporator coil

I installed 2 systems (Goodman) in 2010 and shortly after the installation the installer had to replace both evaporator coils with labor expense. Then last year one of them leaked again. This time I was out of labor warranty and I had to pay labor and refrigerant. Now the other unit has failed and is leaking. I contacted Goodman and they don't it is their responsibility to beyond replacing the part. The problem is every time I get a new part I have to pay the labor and the refrigerant charge. This company should correct the problem and pay to make the units work as advertised. It is amazing to me that any company would be allow to operate in such a fashion. Every couple of years do you think it's fair that I pay over $800 to correct a product defect. Check out this website if you're experiencing the same problem.

Amana Goodman

Carrier AC Unit came with my brand new home the same problems then Bought Amana Goodman 2008, 2010 before the two years coil evaporator was leaking with multi leaks all around. 2012 a lot of cool air got out and where the vent was closed to the floor carpet was super cold. Called technician he said was normal!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then Oct 3,4 unit frozen, heard drops of waters at the duck of the vent that is close to the floor, duct was frozen, unit outside was frozen, turned off unit. Called another technician, Evaporator Coil having many leaks this was the new aluminum coil. Called Amana Goodman because warranty of 5 years is gone for only a month few days, do not want to help us. To be repair by us $887 or more.
Had a Carrier before Amana. Carrier's Evaporator Coil was changed for 3 times and in the 4th time, we called US HOME-LENNAR HOMES, NO HELP TO CHANGE THE problematic UNIT. They did not helped. The sales person of Amana Goodman knew my problem with Carrier AC unit, they knew that Amana was not going to be different they did not reported their problems with them. Right now I do not know what to do and where else to go. Called the Gov. to see if I can complaint about it but I have not find the right department to do so. In Amana will be the 3rd coil changed in exactly 6 years. Lillian Rivera

leak in indoor coil 2years old

I could not agree with you more about the class action lawsuit, it should be pursued, to run a product that you know will have a problem or to use a component for something or a chemical in a pressure situation that it is not intended for is pure negligence. And for a company to intent to pass the cost of their negligence on the consumer is not acceptable!!! They (Goodman) can write off on their taxes recalls and and other expenses as losses we the consumer cannot !!! How a company can get away with this is beyond me, everyday when I go to work I am held accountable for my actions. How this company is not held responsible for theirs again is beyond me. My final word is full speed ahead with the class action lawsuit!!!

leak in indoor coil 2years old

In 2009, I bought two new 4-Ton Goodman A/C systems for my house and had them installed by a certified technician. Precisely after one year, one of the coils developed a leak, and a couple of months later, the other coil developed the same problem.

The technician who replaced my coils was the same technician who installed the original units. According to him, Goodman continued using older coils which were designed for R-22 Freon on their newer units which "required" R-410A Freon. The newer Freon works under higher pressure, and is very corrosive, which could result in leaks if used on coils which were designed for R-22.

I seriously think that a class action lawsuit should be brought on Goodman, in order to cover all of the expenses their customers have had to incur due to Goodman's recklessness. They had to have known this would occur. They probably ran the numbers, and it was too expensive for them to recall the units.
