Horrible Service/Rude Receptionist

I have been going to H&R Block in Fullerton, CA for over 20 years. Time to change after this time around. While I think my Tax Preparer is great, it seems he is too busy now to offer dedicated service to a loyal customer. I realize this tax season (for 2020) is quite busy and extremely challenging. That is why I go to a tax professional. The information about receiving refunds are not always upfront. Apparently if you do a transfer refund, it is processed by the IRS through H&R Block's Financial Account and monitored by their bank, then transferred to your bank after the fee you pay H&R Block is deducted. This is the first year that I have been aware of this and it caused great concern with getting Stimulus money and refunds for tax returns for my family members. Especially when the IRS window says it is available on said date .. and IT ISN'T!! It doesn't help when the Receptionist is rude and condescending when you are trying to make an appt. (says she can't hear you because phone is crackling, tells you that you can come at 8:00 am. because no one is there [really? why would I request that time when I say 8 in the evening???]) and then after confirming appt., you show up and its not on the calendar. Huh? What were you doing?? Especially when you call back and get well there is a lot of people here answering the phones when in fact you know you spoke to her a few days ago to confirm said appt. Then argue with you about how she didn't do it. Really? how about offering assistance instead of disconnecting call, hanging up or just IDK???? Finally, after taxes are done, you start getting notices that you owe more money than what you thought you did and was indicated on the tax sheet you filed. You call to discuss with H&R Block and you get .. We aren't the IRS .. IDK.. Nope, time to change and that office needs a Re-Do.

Failure to follow up

Last year (2020) I provided Alan Cabrera with my taxes. She never return my telephone calls or my emails and she kept my documents. Another agent ended up doing my taxes. To the state my documents have not been returned.

This year (2021) I had Misty Williams at H&R Block to my taxes. I dropped off my documents, she never return my emails with the exception of one but she said she would get back to me the next day to date she has never gotten back to me.

I ended up doing my own taxes and neither year have my documents ever been returned to me.

I just want my documents returned and I will never do business with them again.

Rudeness, lying, technical issues, and other mistakes

After a bit of looking around, I went on the H&R block website to get assistance with my tax return. Boy do I regret that now. Their website was awful. I kept clicking to get help from a tax pro, because I do not know how to file on my own, and it just kept redirecting me to the same page previously, with no confirmation of having completed the request. I had to keep reentering my info over and over. I finally gave up and tried to call customer service, but was on hold for 2 hours and gave up. I tried the site again. After about 10 tries, it finally seemed to work. I didn't know if they were having technical issues or what. I entered in all the relevant info to open an account, upload my documents and did the online tax estimate for return. It said that I was due a minimum of over 3,000. I am a single mother and also homeless due to covid over the last year. I always get around this much in return. Finally, I seemed to get the request in for a tax pro. This was via an office in Oakhurst CA. I then waited to hear back from someone. But I didn't hear anything. About a week, or more? passed, and I decided to check online again. At this time I discovered that there apparently were messages on there for me, but I was never directed to where they were, so I never saw them. Their website was very user unfriendly. I found this by trial and error only. So I answered back the messages, stating that I only just saw them, and got a reply. Then I was told I should probably call the office if the website was acting up. So I did. Immediately this woman 'Misty' seemed to have an attitude. I was very put off by this. Instead of apologising for all the confusion, she accused me of 'not answering her' and that was therefore why she did not submit my return yet. Her words and tone seemed to indicate that she wanted to make it clear that this was all my fault somehow. This despite the fact that I explained clearly that I was having trouble with the website, and did not even know there were messages there. This was the first time I spoke to her ever on the phone, and eventually arranged an appointment. I tried to explain that due to my circumstances, things were very difficult for me. Being a vulnerable woman. I tried to come into the office to sign documents and arrange the how payment would be made to my account, as I was already in town. But in order to get my bank details (which I don't have memorised or written down for security reasons) I needed to go online to my account. I asked if I could do that in her office, she said no. So I had to arrange to come in later in the week. I already did not get my second stimulus due to some error also, so all these extra delays were causing me a lot of financial woes. I tried to explain my frustrations to her due to all this. Most people undestand and say sorry for my circumstances. Later she called me back and said that I am only due 80 dollars for a return. Stunned, I tried to say this cannot be true. She talked down to me, like I was stupid, and explained that due to making this amount on unemployment, I was only entitled to that. I said, I worked and got unemployment. She said she did not have that information, and again, indicated that I was stupid somehow or lying. I was getting annoyed. I submitted all of this online on my account. That I had two sources of income, and was a single mother who was homeless etc. Then I said, I'm a single mother and I know I'm due more than 80 dollars, not to mention your quote on your site verified a much larger amount, I don't understand, I said. She got snooty again, and said, you have a dependent?? Well, yes, of course I said, It's all in my information I submitted which you should have to do the return based on. She said 'you did not give me that information'. I said, yes I did, you're not listening to me. I was stunned at the rudeness and lack of accountability. She kept making this my fault somehow and accusing me of not doing things that I did do. I should have got an apology for something obviously going wrong, either through the website failing, or her incompetence. Though I did not say that. She then told me that I had been 'yelling at her for the past three days' ?? This was the ONLY day I had ever spoken to her. I was at this stage, angry yes. She was beyond rude, and now outright lying. I was incredulous. I said, 'excuse me? yelling at you? I don't believe this." 'yeah' she says with attitude. I asked to talk to a manager, now. She laughed mockingly and transferred me. I had to wait for a while on hold. I felt that 'misty' was talking to the manager to complain about me first, and lie, and therefore the minute I got the manager on the phone, she already had an attitude instead of trying to help a client. I got a woman named 'Mary' who instead of listening and immediately apologising, as is standard with customer service and as they were in the wrong, she also got an attitude with me, and just kept repeating in this patronising way, like a broken record 'we can't help you if you don't give us the information'. I was just outraged and shocked. I repeated that I DID already give all this information and that if it was not received, that was an error on THEIR part, not mine. I said I was due an apology and to correct what went wrong. Not to mention being lied to and accused of lying. She talked over me as I tried to say all this, and did not listen. She said I was welcome to call customer service and the call ended. I did try and call customer service, and was repeatedly hung up on saying 'we cannot take your call at this time'. Livid at this stage, and frustrated, I finally in desperation called another local office in Fresno CA and am waiting for a return call now. I have literally never been treated this way, via any service in my life. The blatant rudeness, lack of accountability and accusations of lying were just incredible. I am completely shaken up after this. I felt like I was targeted for rudeness for some reason. Discriminated against. Being homeless? Not being a local?

Tax Service

Feb 12, 2020 I took my taxes to Stacy at H&R Block on 5051 Auburn Blvd Ste C Sacramento Ca 95841.She started my taxes but quit when she said I needed a special tax form from Lyft. Confused I went home and found out Lyft does not send this form unless you make over $10,000 which I did not. I emailed this to Stacy and left a message on her phone. Today is Feb 18,2020. I called the office and was told to come in tomorrow. I want my taxes done else where because I am no longer satisfied nor do I have faith/trust in this individual. I was going to another tax preparer and realized Stacy still has all my tax papers I need to file. I know tomorrow she is going to say I owe her and try to talk me into doing them with her. She wants $340. It was not that complex nor did it take over 30 min. I know someone I TRUST who can do it for $130. I don't want to argue with her. I just want my papers back. She didn't even give me my copies back. She took everything

Claim denied gave notice and still was denied

I really don’t understand how H& R block denied my claim when I went to H&R Block the next day I was mailed the letter from irs and I was told from the manager to sign up for the line of credit Emerald Card. Then I received another letter saying from the irs I owed the amount of 2600. Then I went to another H&R Block manager and she said I can do a claim I have a paper trail from applying for the Emerald Card that I would be approved. I really don’t agree with my denial of my claim I did my part but the first manager didn’t file a claim at the beginning this shouldn’t be my fault.

Claim denied gave notice and still was denied

Low income cost

I saw a commercial for free tax preparation for low income. When the tax preparer was done I was informed that I would be paying $320.00. This is false advertising. I barely have money to pay my bills and buy food. This never should have happened. I need and want my money back.

Overcharged , mislead

I was a first time customer at H&R block this year. Made an appointment over the phone and was told to file my 1040EZ would be free. Once I got to the appointment on March 16 2018, I was told that the fee would be to file my taxes would be around $200 because I have a more "complicated" tax return. Really? The only thing I have to write off is a condo I bought last September . Okay whatever. At the end of the appointment I was charged $486.00 . NOT HAPPY . One thing was overlooked , I have a co-signer on my condo and that was never discussed during my appointment. Since my appointment on March 16 2018 I have called the office 3 times and left messages for the Office Manager to call me back to resolve the issue. I have not received a call back yet and am told different information each time the receptionist answers the phone.

refund lack of help

Hi this is regarding my tax return 2014 with H&R block, I filed my return and even purchased the (piece of mind)
Extra insurance in case anything ever happened with my refund H&R block would help with any IRS issues and assist with help getting back my return.
So in 2014 I was a victim of identity theft, someone had filed unemployment insurance benefits in my name while I was working, when I finally received a notice from the IRS that they intercepted my return, I took the notice to my tax agent at the time. They stated that because they weren't paid that they weren't and had no way of helping me, I filed complaint after complaint and never got a response.  This year figuring I was in a different state I choice to once again offer my business to H&R block, they took my whole state refund for this year and 2014 filing fees, I've called and filed a appeal because they had no right to take my money from a return then failed to help me recover, I have gotten no where and had numerous agent disconnect calls on me fail to return my calls, I paid 285 for the filing of those years taxes as well and 21 days later nothing and no one seems to know anything, please contact me with any assistance thank you so much

You're better off preparing your taxes yourself

Unfortunately the IRS experienced delays this year.
