I was a Straight Talk customer but decided to leave due to better options. During my time with Straight Talk I purchased a iPhone 5s. I recently requested the iPhone to be unlocked so I can use it on T-Mobiles network but they advised me I didn't qualify. Straight Talk advised me that after I purchased the iPhone they updated their policy as of 12/22/2015 stating "If the customer purchased their device before 12/22/2015 that the customer would need to hold their account active for 12 months with Straight Talk to become eligible to request that their iPhone be unlocked and that I didn't meet the qualification to have the device unlocked." I asked the Straight talk rep were all iPhone users with Straight Talk notified of this sudden policy change that had iPhone's? (only applies to users that purchased iPhone's) and he stated no ..I said well with us not being made aware of something so impacting there must be a dispute process? The rep stated No the only customer that is able to obtain a override is active duty military by emailing [email protected] with the IMEI # briefing and contact #. I became upset so the T-Mobile rep advised me lets try reaching out to Apple the manufacture. While holding for Apple she did find the Straight talk policy to confirm what the rep stated to us is true https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home/ Unlocking Policy or call our Unlocking Department at 1-888-442-5102 and it is a Federal Law. So we spoke with the apple rep she advised she doesn't handle that and has no 3rd party she can recommend to help either but, she did also state that the IMEI shows the carrier is Verizon even though i never had Verizon. So we called Verizon called 1-800-837-4966 while holding for Verizon T-Mobile was able to locate http://www.verizon.com/about/consumer-safety/device-unlocking-policy long story short I still have no way to unlock my device due to Straight Talk withholding information from customers.
