Racist remark by staff

In August 2015 I was at my local LCBO (Queen/Brock), very ethnically diverse neighbourhood. I carry my own reusable bag, put my items in, as I had done for the last 10 years, and headed to the cashier. The cashier was a tall, bald black guy. He said something to me I did not hear. I asked what he said, he asked me to use a shopping cart rather than my own bag--he was polite enough at this point. I said ok. Then I asked if it was a new policy (it was the first time in 10 years of going there, or any LCBO, I was asked to do this). He said it was policy. Still thinking we were just making convo, I said, oh, I never knew that.

At this point he stops everything he is doing and is clearly annoyed. He points to the back of the store where he says there is a sign. I say ok, I don't see it. He is now pissed and will not continue checking me out until I am able to actually see the sign. He has now become needlessly aggressive. I try and stop the whole situation with: I can't see it, but that is fine, I believe you, I am fine with the policy, I just did not know about it. As he goes back to checking me out, he just can't let it go, he now condescendingly goes on about how he was just trying to convey company policy to a customer. It is now clear he has targeted me a the recipient of whatever the chip on his shoulder is that is cutting into the side of his neck and ruining his day. So, I say, you know what, that's fine, I'll go to another cashier, I don't need this at the end of my work day. "You should not be speaking speaking customers like that."

As I am walking to another cashier line, he says, "I guess it's a problem when it's coming from a black man." I stop dead in my tracks, and shout out "what did you say!?" he actually repeated it. I responded, "you mean by black man like my father!?"

The assistant manager takes me into the office to ask what happened and I recount the story. He says he knows me from coming in over the last 10 years, never a problem, and admits the cashier has an attitude problem. He gives me the contact for the regional supervisor. I have a few conversations with him, says it's being dealt with. A few months later the cashier is back at my local store. I never heard a word on how it was handled, near got an apology from the jerk, nothing in writing fro LCBO.

What the cashier said would be pretty insulting and disgusting to anyone, but the fact that I am half black myself, just added another twisted layer to it that is hard to describe.

As far a I'm concerned the LCBO did nothing about it.
