False promise of downgrade option

I signed up with MetroPCS to try their talk & text service. I was told that would cost $25/month. They also had a plan which also included unlimited data at $40/month. I doubted very much that I would use data enough to justify the expense, but the rep in the authorized store said that if I wanted to downgrade to the talk & text only service at $25/month, I could do that. I tried the service with a handful of calls to see how it worked, while I maintained my old service with Verizon. I found that the data service was not something I would use. However, when I tried to downgrade my plan just before the end of the first month, the story changed. Neither the national call center nor the local authorized dealer could effect the downgrade. The call center said the $25 plan was only available for brand new customers and was not available for customers who did not buy a phone from them. I rep at the dealer said she believed she would be able to downgrade my plan. I paid about $50 including a set-up fee to try their service—with the aforementioned understanding. I was interested in continuing for $25 a month and might have eventually switched my family to their service, but now they would not allow me to continue on the $25 plan. My credit card issuer would not open a dispute because I did not have the option to downgrade to a cheaper plan in writing. BEWARE!
