OEG

Just had a visit from a very friendly man named Faysal Abdie. He claims to work for OEG and informed us that our furnace and water heater needed to be replaced. 1. This is a scam 2.They are currently in a lawsuit against the BBB 3.Listened to his story and it made no sense and it was 9pm here on a Monday night. 4. His boss waited in the unmarked van half way down the street. 5. The furnace inspection resulted in a picture of one side being taken{ i was curious to see his ability because i could use another furnace inspection} A picture is NOT a proper inspection. 6. Hopefully someone will find this useful and not get locked in to a 15 year contract with this group of travelling scammers.

misrepresentation and forcibly entering my home

The old "Government Inspection of Water Heaters and Furnaces" again.

THIS time they actually pushed their way into my home! Pushed me and my door open and walked right in!

Walked right down to my basement bold as brass!
It wasn't until they heard me on the phone to the police, that they actually left!
They are working in teams of two now.
Hat, coat, clipboard and all, Ontario Energy Group.
If you see them, DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR, BUT CALL 911!

Air Conditioner Scam

On February 12, 2014, an "inspector" in a neon yellow jacket with ID from Ontario Energy Group showed up at my door and said he was there to inspect my heating and air conditioning for efficiency. He said my air conditioner was old and out-lawed by the Government. I told him it was completely refurbished last year and no longer contained freon. No matter. He said I probably qualified for a free air conditioner (!) and then went on to say that I would lose my 10% Clean Energy Benefit if I did not take OEG up on this offer. When I pressed him on exactly how much the monthly charge would be for the new air conditioner and for how long, it turned out the "free" air conditioner was actually a rental which I would be paying for forever but not to worry....the cost would be offset by the fact that I would no longer have to pay mid-peak and high peak rates. Toronto Hydro would now only charge me off-peak rates all day. As if! I told him I've had scam artists come to my door wanting to replace my hot water heater. He said "yeah, they make our job harder". Ha! Anyway, I said I was still suspicious and would check it out on-line after he left. Beware this company....don't believe a word they tell you.

Misrepresentation

On February 2, 2012 a sales person from Ontario Energy Group knocked on our door and told my wife that they needed to inspect our furnace and hot water heater. They needed to be checked to see if it met new government regulations. He presented himself as a government official on official business. He also said that he needed to see our energy bills. My wife let him in and he inspected the hot water tank and furnace. He told her that they were terribly in-efficient, old and needed to be replaced. My wife told him that she would not make any decisions and to come back when I was home. The sale person returned. I asked about the company he worked for. He stated that they are certified with the government of Ontario to inspect and replace heating and cooling equipment that is not energy efficient. He went on to inform me that our energy bills are way to high and our furnace and hot water tank are not efficient and they are old. I informed him that he is misrepresenting himself as a government inspector and he is intentionally lying to people and committing fraud. Our home has had a full energy audit conducted by a legitimate company and has been fully renovated. Our home is 90 years old and nearly 4000 square feet and our heating bill in January was $140. This is very good compared to other homes like ours. Our furnace is high efficiency and our hot water tank is 3 years old and also high efficiency. This company is misrepresenting themselves and intentionally committing fraud.

Misrepresentation

I had a similar experience. An OEG person showed up at my house and told me that he was doing an audit to ensure that Enbridge supply users had equipment that was up to present safety standards. After seeing my hot water tank that was 4 years old, told me that OEG would replace it. After he left, I contacted Direct Energy and was told that OEG had no affiliation with them. I then contacted OEG and cancelled the tank replacement. Ever since Enbridge got out of servicing users themselves, it's just opened the door for every scam artist and fly by night outfit.
