Changing schedule without informing us

I booked 2 tickets from Honolulu to Manila PR101 ( in your Bacolod city office) last May 23, 2019. The flight schedule was for Oct. 18, 2019.

This flight schedule was later on changed to Oct. 19, 2019. The issue was, I was never informed of the change in schedule. I am a mabuhay Miles member with acct. no. 100148930 and fly via PAL almost every month. PAL has a copy of my telephone number and email address yet nobody from PAL informed me of this change.

The implication to me was, I went to the airport and only found out about the change in schedule. I also had to re-check-in a hotel in Honolulu.

Is it not SOP for an airline to inform their customers about changes like this?

Baggage fee trap for international passengers

Baggage fee entrapment for OFW and balikbayans who are going to Visayas and Mindanao. If they stayed in Manila for just one night because flights are limited. They have to be burdened with astronomical fees. because the baggage weight limit from where they came from is usually 70 lbs. per person, allowed them to take their carry-on for free. This is not right and very insensitive to OFW and balikbayans are the majority of PAL customers both international and domestic. I am writing a letter to the management if unheard will elevate this to the powers that be.

Downgrading of seats

Subject: Downgrading Reserved Seats
Reservation Code OFFLZZ and OPRA4T
Round Trip from Toronto – Japan Via Manila.
Name on Tickets: Ramon Joshua and Rina Singha
Fight Reservation for a tour of Japan (booked separately) was made on March 2, 2019.
As we are an older couple - 85 and 83 years old, we recognised that it was a long flight to Tokyo via Manilla – 15 ½ hours to Manilla and then 3 ½ hours to Tokyo, we booked Premium Economy seats for extra leg room. Our travel agent had to juggle flight connections to ensure we got the proper seats, for which we paid extra. Offered Business Class seats for $700.00 which we obviously refused.
On April 10nd at 5 PM we were advised by our Agent that the Airlines authorities had called to advise that we had been downgraded to Tourist class seats and a refund would be sent separately. This put us into a predicament, as we had no way of hunting for another airline booking, due the last-minute change made without any warning and our connections that we had made for pickup at the Tokyo airport plus the timings of the start of our tour.
After a lengthy argument with the Philippine airline representative and our Agent we were given ‘bulkhead’ seats. These seats are for passengers with special needs and infants/small children, right up front near the lavatory behind the business class. Because of the problem small children have sleeping in a pressurized compartment, they are very noisy and for us older couple we knew we would find it difficult to get any sleep/rest on the 15 1/2-hour flight.
There was no choice but to accept the downgraded, as we could not cancel our 12-day tour of Japan, due the refund policy in effect, so we accepted the change of seats. At the counter we were denied wheel chair assistance that we had specifically requested due to some change in the new tickets. They did offer us lounge privileges but due to all the time at the counter we went straight to the boarding gate.
This change also denied the meal plan during the flight, which is part of the Premium Economy but not offered in the Tourist class. During the flight a flight attended came and refunded us $266.00 CAD with absolutely no explanation. Not her fault, as she was not privy to how and why the change was made.
Our flight with Philippine Airlines was mired with problems. The plane from Manilla to Tokyo sat on the tarmac for over a hour and we lost our tour pickup in Tokyo, that cost us close to $100.00.
We expected better from a reputable airline expect an explanation why notification was given at the last moment and without consideration for the inconvenience it has caused us both due to our age and mental anguish that effected a holiday we had planned enjoy without unnecessary changes made by an airline service we trusted in good faith.

stolen items from boxes

we left honolulu on march 16, 2018 on philippine airlines . we checked in 1 luggage and 2 styroform boxes, 1 contained 2 pieces of frozen raw fish and 12 bags of expensive steak . upon my arrival i laoag airport, i noticed that the string around the box was tied loosely. my husband alway ties the luggage tight so it would be easier for handling. the box was was tagged by an orange sticker. i immediately knew that our box was opened . other passengers on the same flight also mentioned that alot of their boxes were opened. upon arrival at our place of stay , i opened the box to find only 7 bags of steak and the 2 pieces of raw fish. when i arrived back into honolulu, i spoke with customs and tsa on this matter . i was told to file a complaint with tsa and the carrier. therefore i am informing you of this incident to take what action is needed to take care of this problem. im sure i am not the only one complaining about this . maybe you need to put cameras in this area so everything will be under surveillance. thank you for your concern. i will be awaiitng for your response

PAL sudden change date of flights

I have booked our flight schedule last September including the choice of seat and $80 per seat this December . All were scheduled and booked including hotels and transpo.
However, just this week I received an email from Philippine airlines. They change the date of our flight back to Canada.
I am so pissed coz they cant just change the actual date. It's okey to change the time BUT not the date. This is not acceptable.
Not sure if the upper management knows whats going on the reservation division. I hope they will improve their system in place.

PAL Cancelled our flights 3 months before

I received and email from PAL and informed me that our flights were cancelled (MNL to Busuanga). In the email, they said that they re-booked us from CLARK to Busuanga. Why in the HELL would they booked as leaving from Clark Airport? Do they expect us to go to CLARK? They had flights from MNL -> CEBU -> USU. Why didn't they book us out of MNL? This was just plain STUPID!!! This was going to be my first time to fly PAL and I tell you, I will never never fly PAL again!!! Customer Service sucks! They just don't care even if they are the ones that inconvenience you. Now we had to change our total plans because of this. Really really stupid. I'm surprised that PAL is still in business!

Faulty Website/Horrible Service

We are a family of six Americans who live in Asia. We all fly to the Philippines at least once each year. We have always preferred to fly Philippine airlines and have recommended it to many people. Not after today. We tried to purchase six tickets on the website. We tried four times. Each time the website had a problem and would not allow us to purchase. After spending several hours on the phone with customer support, the supervisor finally admitted to us that others also had similar problems with the website that day. It was not a credit card problem--it was a website problem. In spite of this, customer support refused to honor the price offered on the website and insisted on charging us fees for booking over the phone. Basically, we were being charged extra because of Philippine Airlines faulty website. There was no attempt to make good on the situation or to ensure the satisfaction of a very loyal customer. All that was offered was "sorry for your inconvenience, sir." The airline charges more for not booking online, but doesn't provide a working website that allows for this! Shocking..... We decided to not book with Philippine Airlines and will not fly with this airline again. By refusing to waive the 75-100 USD fees (which we should not have had to pay anyway), the airline lost a $1400 sale, and the many thousands of dollars per year that we spend on tickets will now go to another airline. Furthermore, when many of our American friends make trips to Asia, we will recommend that they NOT use this airline. Very, very poor customer service. If this is how loyal customers are treated, we will go elsewhere.

wrong terminal

I would like to be clarified of the assigned terminal in NAIA for a DVO-MLA trip today, March 23, usually or it has always been a FACT that this flight arrives at Terminal 2. But the ticket says Terminal 3 so the airport rep went to Terminal 3 and waited for the passenger. The passenger on the other hand waited at Terminal 2.

Stolen Items from baggage

Philippine Airlines

My husband departed from LAX to Manila on March 13, 2017, Flight NO. PR103. with two luggages. Upon arrival at his sister's house everybody was so anxious to see what's their (pasalubong) of course as every balikbayan bring when they go back to their hometown. To his surprised the ladies purse that I sent for my niece was missing with matching wallet, a pair of shoes 2 blouses and two men's shirt. Take note: the purse, wallet and a pair of shoes was inside the backpack. The backpack was there (it's a child's backpack maybe the thief/thieves was not interested) they took only what's inside the backpack. I immediately called the customer service of Philippine Airlines and the lady I spoke with said that it is not PAL employees that handles the baggage it's the customs. So whoever handles the baggage I just want to say something, you PEOPLE or should i call you THIEVES should be ashamed of what you are doing you feed your family from stealing from other people. I wish and hope that one day you be caught and be fired. You don't deserve being in that job if your purpose is to steal. You don't have any conscience. I hope that Philippine Airlines can do something to prevent this from happening I know we are not the only victim of this crime. And also to the Bureau of Customs, you should add more security cameras on the baggage area so these THIEVES will be caught on the act. I'm very frustrated and angry but I'm positive that one day they'll be caught and pay the prize.

Rude and disrepectful

Philippines Airlines – Absolutely Disgusting Airline Jan 2017

In my honest opinion, I regret to say, this is the WORST AIRLINE I have ever travelled on in forty four years of flying and I am surprised the Local Philippines Newspapers have not written a few articles about their disgraceful treatment of tourists. Please look at twitter and yelp just for a start at their bad behavour.
PLEASE do not even think about using this airline. My return trip from Melbourne to Davao City was disgraceful and pathetic. The staff are the rudest you will find anywhere on any airline.
The food was horrible, the staff were disrespectful, they change airport gates at a whim without notice and leave you up in the air and they can’t even dock their planes properly. Plus they are ranked EIGHTY THIRD in the world.
How they even managed to be ranked 83rd has left me mystified. I honestly believe they should not be ranked with in the top 100 airlines. As a national carrier they should hang their head in shame.
When I took the time to point out the error of their ways I received a generic letter from PAL Head Office in Manila. Kate Ignacio said that they were a fantastic airline and that most of what I said what lies. Amazing. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!! PAL, in other words you do not give a stuff. But from what I can gather Kate Ignacio was way too scared to speak up as she fears for her job. What this company needs is someone with guts to speak up and drag themselves out of the gutter, so to speak. But not in my lifetime. Very sad. How low can you sink PAL, how low?
Shame on you PAL for treating tourists like dirt.

Missed connecting flights

Our flight was late out of Sydney which on arrival at the airport when told we voiced our concerns at possible missed connections even though we had left a safe time buffer of over 3 hours between flights. The ground staff at check in Sydney, whilst friendly said there was nothing she could do and we would probably still be able to get there in time. She said we had to 'hope that our outgoing flight would also be late!' The flight was indeed the two hours late and more.... our flight landed at the time our connecting flight from Manila left. We let ground crew know but no attempt was made to help us get to the other terminal except a finger pointing in the direction of the transfer bus...which was leaving in half an hour! We were usher out of the airport and left on the sidewalk. Although we caught our own taxi we missed the flight and had to buy whole new flights (4 for my family) to Busuanga at premium prices for the next day. We had to then stay in a hotel overnight for 4 people and miss our hotel in Coron that was prepaid. Although i have contacted PAL several times i have received no contact except the automated responses. PALs lack of customer care and service is astounding... I began this process early in October 2016 - it is now mid December with no contact. I would this matter heard as soon as possible.

down graded on a business class flight

I recently booked a business class flight from manila to sydney and when I arrived at the airport I was told the plane was full so they could only offer me a economy seat, I was offered a free return flight from Manila to Sydney, as compensation. I live in London and was on a once in a lifetime trip with my family the compensation would have been useless as to use the ticket i would have to take extra flights, this was a family vacation not a everyday trip. I paid full price for the tickets, and didnt upgrade using airmiles or anything to reduce the price.

I had booked myself, my wife and our two small children aged 7 months and 3 years business class seats for the night time flight from Manila to Sydney PR211. I had logged in in the morning of the flight to check us in and changed our seats from the randomly allocated ones to seats 2A, 2C and 1D, all being front row seats according to the seat plan to ensure we could sit with the children and have access to a bassinet for the baby. I had prior to this sent a number of requests to ensure that we had this available.

We arrived at the airport over two hours before the flight in order to take advantage of the business lounge, feed the children and get them settled ahead of the flight. When we got to the check-in desk however, there was a note on the desk informing passengers that business class had been overbooked and asking for volunteers to downgrade their seats. We didn't pay attention to this as we knew it was not an option for us.

As we started to check in, the attendant seemed to get increasingly distressed and took a long time. She informed me she was struggling to place us all together, although she showed me on the screen that there were still places available in business class. As I waited, other travellers were checking in at the kiosks next to ours. After about 10 minutes she informed me that she was going to see her manager to check something. More time passed and I started asking other members of check in staff what was going on as my young daughter was getting increasingly hungry and ready for bed she usually sleeps @ 7.30 hence why we had booked this flight as we knew she would sleep on the flight. After almost an hour the attendant returned to say that there was only 2 seats in Business and that one of us would have to sit in Economy. My daughter by now was crying a lot, there was nowhere I could go to feed her and she was getting increasingly upset.

I was starting to get angry and ask for the problem to be fixed again the attendant went away. Eventually she returned and I asked to speak to a manager to be told I couldn’t and that nothing could be done, we were offered a free return flight from Manila to Sydney. To me this is useless I live in London and could never use the ticket. By now my son was in tears as he knew I was upset, my daughter was screaming. Quite frankly the way we were treated was appalling and not what I would expect from a business class check-in at the carriers home airport. Whilst we were being kept waiting with no information, more and more people were checking in. Both of my children were visibly upset and only getting worse, no one offered to help or made any effort to pacify them, what should have been a happy time after all a 3 year old gets very excited to be on an aeroplane even without the business class service we expected was turning into a horrid unpleasant situation.

Eventually the manager of the airline emerged and continued to tell us there was nothing that he could do and was extremely unhelpful. By this time there was only one seat left in business class, and the time that we would have had in the lounge was gone. Whilst I and my wife were trying to ascertain what options were left to us, one of the attendants offered to find out whether anyone already allocated a business class seat would be willing to give it up; she came back to say that they were unable to offer this. In the meantime, the manager attempted to convince me to accept the "free" flights despite my repeatedly telling him they were of no use to me.

With not long left before the flight was due to leave, it was clear that neither our children's nor our distress or appalling customer service experience meant anything to this manager nor his staff. We had no choice but to accept the seats in economy class offered under the proviso that our flights from Manila to Sydney would be fully refunded for all 4 of us which the manager agreed. I felt we had no option if we wanted to get to Sydney than to accept the offer of a refund, However even at last minute he attempted to get me to sign an acceptance of the replacement Manila – Sydney- Manila flights; and we later found out that a couple of people had offered to give up their seats to us but hadn't been allowed to...

If I had wanted to travel economy I would have booked it I paid a huge premium to have the luxury of business, for what was a once in a lifetime experience.

We ended up being the last to board the flight having only gone to security 15 minutes before the scheduled departure, we were the last people on the plane by some considerable time, you could tell just how settled people were and from what I was told but the other passengers.

Even on the flight there were problems the seat we were promised that had the basinet for my 8 month old daughter didn’t fit, so my daughter was placed on the floor wrapped in my blanket, the aircraft was so cold, I have flown a lot and never been on a plane so cold, people had head scarfs on and were wrapped up like they were going outside. There was no entertainment system, ipads were offered to bossiness class but not to my wife or son sat in economy even though I asked for them they weren’t offered the business class meal that I had requested. I had booked a Child's business class meal for the flight so this should have been on board.

The flight although scheduled to leave @ 2135 actually left 2 hours late and arrived 3 hours late

I feel I have been treated extremely badly and offered no compensation even though I clearly didn’t get the service I paid for.

Report on priority luggage

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to bring to your attention the incident involving my luggage during my trip to Singapore on 13 October2016.

i am a Mabuhay Premiere Elite cardholder. I understand that Elite Cardholders are entitled to priviledges such as, but not limited to, priority tagged luggages. In my recent trip, however, upon arrival in Manila, I found that my bag was missing eventhough it was tagged as a priority. Please note that i have waited until all the luggage/packages from my flight have come out of the conveyor thinking the my bag was inadvertently mixed with the other bags but to no avail.

I reported the incident to a PAL employee and only then after minutes of searching my bag was eventually found. This was the third time that my luggage went missing despite it being tagged as priority.

In view of this, i respectfully request that this issue be looked into by the management so as not to inconvenience other Mabuhay Cardholders. i hope that this report would lessen the incidence of missing luggages of Mabuhay Cardholders.

Thank you and more power.

Very truly yours,
Thelma L. Soriano

Staff not very helpful even the supervisor is useless

We arrived to Manila at 11 pm and has to go straight from international to terminal 2 for a domestic flight. This was my first time with PAL. As an international customer, of course we come with lots of baggage. We talked to staff who told us that the allowance is 20kg per person total for checked in baggage. As an interational flyer, who came all the way from the other side of the world, how can you expect for us to only have such low allowance? It is ridiculous. We were told that if we purchased prepaid luggage allowance that we could increase the limit BUT no one was here at that time. No one told us that it needed to be at least 4 hours before the departure. How can we talk to anyone if no agent was there?!? Our flight was in 2 hrs and we were here because if a family emergency. We asked specifically for the supervisor, who was of no help or use either. He didn't seem like he cared. Now I was here about 3 weeks ago and flew with Cebu Pacific. They worked with my family and helped us get a lower fee for our excess allowance. They actually worked with and helped us, by being considerate of us international travelers. They gave us options and recommended suggestions. PAL gave us a dead end. The cashier was also unaccommodating saying thay i needed to go outside and downstairs to get money exchanged frol usd to php. Isn't that why you're called a cashier?? Don't promote outstandng customer service when your actions are thr opposite. PAL should take heed on how Cebu Pacific takes care of their customers. The lousy customer service of PAL will never make me fly with them again. This is my first and will be my last.

Confirmation of Ticket did not push through and I had to pay more

I booked a ticket for my dad. I got the itinerary confirmation at the end of the transaction. I did not get any email even after a few hours. I got worried coz my dad's flight was on the next day and it already happened to my mom before. I called the airlines and they asked me to call the credit card company and call again after an hour while they verify if the transaction went through. I called back and they said it didn't. They said the rates of my booking was no longer available and I had to pay a higher rate or change my schedule. I asked if they can find a way to fix it since it was not our fault and our time and energy already got wasted. They said they could not. I had no choice but to book it. I wanted to file a formal complaint and they said they couldn't process it and I had to go online to mycare to do it. They make it so hard for you to voice your concerns. It's so unfair that I had to pay more because there is something wrong with their website. Previously there are also issues in their website pricing, i'll speak further about it when I encounter it again. Someone should look into this issue

abusive service from extra wieght department

four and a halve hours before my flight to Cebu I went to purchase extra weight at 50 peso per kilo and a representative of this airline by the name of Mab__ga Ma Divina Rayton kept stalling to sell me the excessive weight I wanted to purchase, she would walk away from the desk and return. Doing this several times and trying to confuse things so we would pass the four hour time frame , she leaned over to a co worker and said in Tegalog I'm going to make him pay the 200 peso. Little did she know my wifes language is also Tegalog and she understood what this woman said and what she was trying to do. Finally it was 1 minute before the rate went up to 200 peso per kilo and she said now I don't have time to sell this to you at 50 peso its going to now cost you 200 peso. I was purchasing 65 kilo over weight which at 200 peso is a lot of money. I got upset and went back to counter#8 where Marina Valencia was working and being very helpful to us, she was the lady that origanaly sent us to purchase the overweight cause we had lots of time to purchase it. I told her what was going on and she knew I wasn't being treated fairly so she called her supervisor, Alexandra Gonzales. These two ladies treated us very well because they respect the airline they work for and the customers that use this airline. Alexandra took us to her supervisor in customer relations office. A lady by the name of Reg listened to what we were saying about our treatment we received from Ma Divina Rayton. Reg wanted her customers to be treated fairly because she also respects the airline she works for and the people that use it. Reg made sure that we got our 65 kilos of over weight purchased at the 50 peso price we should have gotten from Mab__ga Ma Divina Rayton in the first place. The reason I have the name of the woman that miss treated us is cause Reg made her sell us the over weight allowance at the 50 peso rate and her name is on the receipt which I kept to file this complaint. This Rayton person is a debit to your airline and a disgrace, with people like her you will lose customers. Customers is what makes any business profit and without profit there is no success. If it wasn't for the great service the other 3 ladies provided us, we would never fly or recommend your airline to anyone. I will highly recommend your airline to anyone that is flying or asks us about this airline, only because of the extent these other 3 ladies went through to kept us as customers happy, they are a great asset to your company. This all happened on July 2/ 2016 at 1:10 pm 3 hours before the flight left. OR# E-O16-200000000780154 Your Truly Erwin Sylvester Wiegers

PR112

As finding an email address for your Customer Service team has been challenging, kindly forward my comments to them:

I just flew back from Manila on PR112 to LAX - I always try to support PAL but increasingly you make it difficult.

1: Why have online check-in if the queue for bag-drop is longer than the queue to check in?

2: On a 12 hour flight, the airplane is an ex-Iberia A340 - apparently no in-flight entertainment / no WiFi either.
3: It seems there is in-flight entertainment via MyPal over WiFi (no internet) - such a shame you don't let your passengers know this, as in order to use it, you need to have downloaded an app prior to the flight.

4: Ah well, seems there is some entertainment after all, - just like the old days a vintage 20" CRT screen has dropped down from the ceiling about 15 feet away from my seat, may as well watch the movie to pass the time. Last 20 minutes of the movie - PA announcement that Duty Free sales are starting - the movie stops and never comes back - instead another one starts. Myself & another passenger speak with the Purser - nothing he can do. This is getting beyond frustrating - and how did the movie end??

5: Ah well - let's try and put this all behind us with a nice hot breakfast. Uhhh - it's stone cold. FA "Kasi, it was frozen sir" - - "It still is" I say.
The replacement breakfast was warm and tasty - unfortunately the only good experience I can report.

Please take notice PAL - I have flown with you for over 30 years and there are so many other choices. Try to give us a reason to stay and love you, not multiple reasons to leave.
