horrible managers

Hello,
I have been employed at Ross Dress For Less in Lihue, Kauai since before the store even opened. We put in long hours late nights and early mornings. The managers would forget my breaks and when I reminded them store manager David Pulley would yell in front of customers as if I was a child doing something wrong! I mean I have been on my feet for over six hours with no break! They work you till you are completely drained with no regard of your health or how you are feeling. I was out with a doctor paper and David told me “no I could not call in sick”. They will butter you up with a bunch of empty promises so you keep pushing but never will fulfill what they initially promised! There is no employee appreciation and they do not do fallow any rules or any store policies. The store manager himself makes up his own rules as he goes along. They continue to say they have an open door policy which is a complete lie because they never have the time to listen or putting you down for your thoughts and comments. The Kauai store has so many employees yet every time I start work we are always under staffed! When they make an error on anything such as check amounts or scheduling they never fix the errors that they make. I still have not received any call or any money back that they shorted on my paycheck. Which might I add was 11 hours short!
Assistant manager Sheila B speaks rudely to customers I have seen it many times. She has her little pets that she lets get away with murder in the store. She breaks many rules herself. I have seen her stash items (hide products) uses employee discounts while on the clock to buy another person there items, takes more breaks than what is actually allowed and when we had our “confidential” survey to state how we feel about our managers she sits right next to you while you are doing it reading all your answers. We have a hotline to call if there is knowledge or information on external or internal theft. I reported once and they did nothing.
David is by far the worst store manager he expects you to put your family, health, education, entire life on hold for the company but he will not even appreciate anything that you sacrificed or gave up. The company expects 100 % from their employees at all times in and out of the store. They say you are a reflection of the company… well I say I became a product created by this company! They want your loyalty but will not be loyal to you. They want you to understand and be patient when they do something wrong but could give a rats a*s what your reason is for making a mistake. A Ross employee is never noticed for their hard work and sacrifice but you do one thing wrong your treated like a red headed step child!!
I was hoping that after the store settles things would be smoother but it’s still a chaotic mess. Corporate needs to know that the image of Ross is starting to make a negative impact on a lot of residence. You want to have loyal trustworthy hard working happy employees? Than show some damn appreciation!! Get to know your workers keep your promises and try and give a f*(K about someone else besides yourself. Customer satisfaction is very important and they teach us at Ross that the cashier is the last person a customer sees and will remember, so if your employees are not happy they will not provide great customer service. If the company cannot be loyal the employee will not either. They will not help you with a darn thing if it does not benefit them in any type of way! The pay is not worth the physical and mental drama that I go through daily. I pray no one has to experience this type of abuse. You can’t shop at Ross on your day off if you work there because they make you purchase clothes from the store with your own money mind you just so you can clock in and work. It doesn’t matter to them if you had a prior engagement. They do not honor their word at all FAKE!
Oh… check product before purchase because they take broken returns and resale them!
On a positive note, I have met a lot of new people and even made a few great friends. I guess you can say that’s why I stuck around this long. Lord knows it aint because of the pay! New management please that way we have more long term loyal happy employees!!! I wish they had been more caring sooner so many of our great co-workers are gone and they were very hard working friendly loyal people. I wish they didn’t have to go. The store is not the same without you. I know you are happy with your current employment. Making more money, being appreciated, and recognized for your talent and dedication.

Kawika (SPS) Hard working, dependable and always making co-workers smile. It is virtually impossible for anyone to be in a bad mood when you are around. No matter what was going on or what mood I was in working with you would always make the grey clouds disappear. You always had a joke to tell, an ear to lend or strength to share. I am so sad that you are gone and I am upset that this company treated you this way! They don’t know a good thing when they got it! You will be a success with the company your with know!
Robyn (cashier) Friendly and helpful and I enjoy watching you interact with co-workers. You are very hard-working .
Kalani(SPS)makes us feel safe and you always make it a point to acknowledge each employee. It simply is a joy having our conversations.
Jessica (SALES FLOOR)on the go and keeping things organized.
Ashua(FES) Such a hard worker great with customers and patient. The way you take an irate customer and calm them down instantly is pure magic. It is always a pleasure and a good time to work with you. It is never a dull moment. The company surely did lose out on a great employee. You always took the time to listen to each of your cashiers and even though management could care less, you personally made sure each of us had our breaks and everything we needed. You got to know each of us on a personal level and the customers just adore you. It has been such an honor to have had a chance to work with you and to watch the way you interact with people. You have an Ora that is simply amazing.
Tiare (STOCK) you have an amazing sense of humor hard working strong and independent. You have that take no crap attitude that I adore. You will go far in life your family is just as amazing as you are! Even though Ross did not appreciate or recognize how amazing these employees where I do because each and every one of them has gone above and beyond for their co-workers. They understand the meaning of hospitality and customer service. They genuinely care about each employee and built strong bonds and relationships with our customers! We miss you!!!
