Charged too much!

Good Afternoon,

Yesterday I went to Smart Style around 2pm, to get my hair cut. There were two people a head of me. I didn't mind waiting my turn. The stylest started to comb my hair and said she would have to wash it, because she couldn't get the comb through. I have to use hairsprat to keep my hair in place. That was OK, but she didn't tell me the shampoo was complementary. I found out about that this morning, I told her how I wanted my hair cut, an inch or inch and a half , so it would be jaw length. I also told her that I would like slight layering because it would make my hair look fuller. After she cut my hair she got the blowdryer and dried my hair. Then she started to use a hot iron on my hair. My hair is straight enough without it. She did not tell me how much is would cost. When she rung me up, she had trouble with the register, she said they are using a different program. Anyway, to make a long story short. She didn't tell me how much it would be. I told her I was a senior and would like to get the discount. She told me how much it cost me and I nearly fainted. She said with the discount it would be $58.50. This what the receipt says: Advanced hair cut $30.00 and Style - basic $35.00 totaling $65.00. The senior discount was $6.50.

I have had my hair cut at Smartstyle several times and never did I pay ove $23.00. The haircut is nice. My only complaint is the cost of a simple haircut. The invoice number is 11581R1615 dated 12/6/2023.

Spiral Perm

I asked for a spiral perm. I expressed my concerns that I had bleached areas about 6 months ago, I was told it should be okay. The stylist Deanna's nails were so long that she kept stabbing my head. I look horrible.. It took over 4.5 hours from start to end. My ends are dead and crispy. The rest of my hair is a bit wavy but that's because she used a diffuser on my hair that brought out my natural curl. Deanna used a comb on my hair.. who combs out a perm?? I am so disgusted and disappointed.

Review if Jamie Seymour

Couldn’t find a site for review other than this. Just want to say each time I have seen Jamie for a haircut it was Avery good experience. Jamie is professional and courteous. Jamie is an asset to her company. The haircuts she gave me were just what I asked for, they always look good. I am very pleased.

untrained stylest

Used the so called licensed stylist for over a year. Wanted her to learn my hair because I wanted a body wave. In Jan. 2018 she said she could do it without hurting my hair. I have thinning gray hair. She rolled the curlers too tight causing about 30 percent of my hair to break off and leaving bald spots in front. Hair fell out for 7 weeks. Went back to "salon" and their solution was just don't touch you hair. The company would be better off to hire licensed and qualified stylist.

Defective Product/Rude people

This salon has more bad days than good. I had to return a product because the aerosol can would not work. I was met with rude Claudia who demanded to know why I didn't run it under hot water because it was clogged. I calmly explained I only had the can for 1 day and I would like to exchange it. She threw herself around, sighed, rolled her eyes, and pretended she didn't know how to do the exchange (after being there for years) and finally the manager came over to show her. This is typical for the staff, the only exception is Ashley - who is the only one who displays any knowledge of product. They are understaffed and you will be completely ignored until they absolutely have to take care of you. My elderly aunt has been there on several occasions and has been burned by the curling iron and nicked with scissors. Considering this small town has more than its share of hair salons, selling the same products, there is absolutely NO reason to continue giving this salon my business.

smart style

Several weeks ago I had a perm and hair cut at Smart Style. I t is a disaster. She talked and talked and put a solution on my hair and it was burning my scalp I told her It was burning and she said it was a new product and ignored me. she rolled my hair and sat me in a chair and went to get something to drink leaving me in the salon as there was no one else there. She returned and rinsed my hair and told me how much it cost. I PAID $62.00 FOR a perm. which is terrible. I do not know what she used on my hair but my hair is coming out. and if I do not hear from you in regard to this issue. I will see a lawyer. When I comb my hair , the hair is still coming out on my comb. I wrote to you regarding this issue and have not had a call discuss this. Bad Bad Bad Cut and Service

I've never been so mad, I havnt had my hair cut or colored in 7 yrs. ! So my daughter is getting married in a couple of weeks, I decided to finally do something with my hair. I set up a appointment with Smart Styles, I go in early so I could check things out # 1 should have been my first clue no body at front desk ! # 2 Miss Amy kept putting me on hold so she could clean her station which didn't look like it had been cleaned in days, keep in mind it's early morning! # 3 I told her how many inches I wanted taken off, and we discussed the fact that I have naturally curly hair, and I was going to go all out and get hi lights...# 4 she would not stop her gossiping to the other employees about how bad it was to work for the company to pay attention to what she was doing! # 5 I had to stop her mouth to ask if I could see how much she'd taken off 🙄 I ask her to take off 2 more inches get this....she said no !!!! # 5 I ask her for long layers she argued with me about how she did not layer my hair, instead she chopped me up ! I would not recommend her to a dog salon ! I have contacted corporate to no avail, it's been one week and I have called several times with no call back !!! Is this how you run a company for real ?! Good luck to anyone who usess ur sorry ass business!!!

Waxing

I am complaining of the cost of the eye brow and lip waxing 10.25 for each area is way too much. I can see 10.25 for both areas. If the price does not change I will not have this service done at smartstyle again. I am not saying they do not do a good job cause they do but the cost is out of touch.

smart style salon hair manager

dear smart style , can u pleas help me ,my whole xmas is ruiened. I go to no other salon for over 20 yrs and never had any trouble and I do not want to go to anyother salon here, I have never had any trouble with any hair dresser and the lady I liked her, she is from michicigan , and the smart stle manager here in paola. I do not want to go to any othe salon and want to know if you can call in another hair dresser, I liked the way this lady did my hair though.she got angry at me and wasn't even listening nor cared and told me she would not do my hair again o go some other place,i am not going to another place and I said nothing wrong. she got off on being hateful to me and hurting me. I had came in as a walk in from the hospital and needed my hair donr by her the way she does it for a dinner for my clients at work, she ended up getting angry and did not finish at all and did not comb it out at all and told me to go else where. I am satisfied with her, anyway I am not going to a different hair salon and usually am a walk in.can u help me since I am not going to a different salon ? thank you all jeannette

To the SmartStyle Stylists

I've read some complaints and comments made by SmartStyle stylists.

I just wanted to say that customer service is KEY!!! Whoever greets the client/customer at the desk or work station is the FIRST line of contact. You are representing your workplace and you are representing yourselves.

If I am treated like crap by a stylist from the get-go or worse (as in my case), ignored and then denied service, you can bet your bottom dollar that my butt is out of there and that I will not go back.

Customers should be able to vent their frustrations and complaints without fear of rebuttal from employees. That is ridiculous!!!

If I can't complain about poor service, etc. here, on a COMPLAINTS BOARD, then maybe my complaint would be better directed towards the Better Business Bureau.

Bad Customer Service and NO Respect for Business Hours

On Thursday evening, November 10, 2016, I walked in to the hair salon in my local shopping center.

I was having kind of a bad day on an emotional level and was unsure and thought that maybe changing my hairstyle would be a nice pick me up.

I arrived at the salon at 7:25 pm. (the salon closes at 9:00 pm on Thursday and Friday evenings). There was only one stylist in the salon and she was cutting another client's hair. She did not even acknowledge my presence. She completed the haircut for the other client and had them pay and THEN acknowledged that I was there.. after I had been waiting for close to 15 minutes without so much as a 'good evening' or a 'one moment, please, I'll be right with you'. (COMMON COURTESY).

She proceeded to tell me that a client had just cancelled so, lucky me, I could take his spot. I told her I was looking for advice, first, as I was feeling a bit down and not sure what I wanted to have done to my hair. I suggested a few things, which she poo pooed. She suggested something I thought I might like and told her that I would be fine with that. She told me that she had no time to do it since she had another customer coming in in 20 minutes. (Please keep in mind that I have very short hair and it doesn't take more than 15 minutes to cut and style). She proceeded to tell me that 'had I not spent so much time ;talking' to her, she would have been able to do my hair'. So now.. I'm not just down and negative, I'm embarrassed. I told her I didn't mind waiting for her to finish with the other client and have my hair done after... but she refused.. telling me to come back either Friday or Saturday.

I tried to explain to her that it had to be that night as I have interviews and appointments. She refused just the same. I asked her for the phone number for another Smart Style nearby as I didn't want to drive there for nothing. She wasn't able to provide me with that number either.

In the end, I found a First Choice Hair Salon in the same mall that provided me with EXCELLENT customer service and took me in right before closing time. The stylist (Julie) did an amazing job on my hair and it took all of about 12 minutes. So.. maybe it's a good thing Smart Style screwed up.

It's not the first time I've had issues with the Smart Style Salon. I will not be going back there. Maybe they should send their employees to a good salon for some refreshers.

what I wa charged for

I went in to get a hair cut it read 15.50 as she was cutting she said if I give a email the cut would be 9.00 dollars so why was I charged 19.35 dollars and my sister got a trim and it cost her the same amount. This is just not right. I don't think I will go back

Hair cut

Asked for an A-line hair cut, she did a good job on the front so I didn't think nothing f it when she didn't show me the back with a mirror r even offer a mirror for me to check it, next morning got up, started to do my hair, found long strands where they shouldn't have been, started to panic!!! Checked the back and OMG it was HACKED!!!! blunt lines, looked like a child had cut my hair, I called the salon who offered to fix it for free, decided to give them another chance ( BIG MISTAKE!) left there in tears almost after being shown the back, it was WORST!!! The more she tried to fix it, the worst she was making it, left and went to a different salon who fixed it for me, they could not believe the state my hair was in, and even said I would have to wait for parts of my hair to grow back before she could attempt to fix it, looks much much better Han it did, but my hair is much much shorter now than I set out to have it, and I now have to be very careful how I style it to cover up the obvious mistakes that couldn't be fixed until my hair grows or have it completely chopped off and start again! I was charged $24 by Walmart for a cut, flat iron and style and then another $20 at a different place to fix the mess!!!

NOT LISTENING

Today my son and I walk in to Wal Mart so he could get a hair cut on Bay Pines Blvd. The hairdresser is a older woman who dose not listen my son said short cut, she seems afraid of the scissors and the razor forget it, she barely trim his hair. I stoop up and said much shorter and she ignored me. Instead, she started greeting other customer left my son in the chair for ten minutes, trying to answer question about shampoo, she kept on replying " I don't know or ah" I did not know that " How can you have a license to be a hairstylist and not know what your products are, like shampoo. There was a older gal there too another associate of the Smart Style they gave each other a blank look , clueless. If I see them again, I will run, because I know there are real hairdresser working there who get it, listen, really listen and are not afraid to cut hair. I gave her a tip, because I feel sorry for her, she should be a greeter at the entrance, no license required, no brainer there. I

No Customer Service

On November 25th 2013, I purchased a Limited Edition Champagne Damask Chi Ceramic Flat Iron as a Christmas gift for my daughter from SmartStyle. After receiving this gift on Xmas, she used this product twice before the unit would not turn on or heat. Upon returning to the salon with the receipt, I was informed that there is a 30 day return policy at the salon and I would have to contact the manufacture directly and deal with them. I contacted Farouk Systems, the manufacture, and was told that the unit was under warranty and would be replaced. In order to have this unit replaced, I needed to pay the shipping cost to them and enclose a $15.00 check to cover the shipping cost back to me. I now have the cost of the flat iron, $89.99 plus shipping costs of $30.00 for a total of $119.99 invested. I received a brand new black original ceramic flat iron from Farouk Systems, not the Limited Edition Champagne Damask unit that I purchased. I contacted Farouk and was told that since the unit I purchased was a limited edition they no longer had this unit available. I then returned to SmartStyle where the salon had a brand new Limited Edition Champagne Damask Chi Ceramic Flat Iron on their shelve for sale. This unit was still on their shelve since November. I spoke to the manager explained what had transpired and asked to exchange the unit I received from the manufacture for the limited edition iron that I had purchased in the first place. She told me that she couldn't do that and would lose her job if she did. She referred me to the corporate office customer service for SmartStyle. Upon contacting them, I was told by a customer service manager that they could not exchange the unit and that there was nothing they could do according to company policy. So here I sit with about $120.00 invested in a Chi black flat iron that sells for $59.99 including shipping online. And there sits the Limited Edition Flat Iron on SmartsStyle's shelve since November. All I wanted was a simple exchange, no more, no less. Great customer service.

no service

I have been a customer to Smartstyles in Del Rio, Texas for many years and all the people that color and cut my hair have been
great. So when I moved to Robstown Texas I went to the Calallen, Texas (Northside of Corpus Christi) Wal-Mart and talk to a lady that work at the Smartstyles salon there. I ask her if the rules were the same as they were in Del Rio, that you sign in and wait, she told me yes. She told me it would be best to come in about 10am that it was sometime slow in the morning. The next day I came in, sign in ask the her how long it would be, she said she had 5 of her regular customers coming in and it would be about 2 hours I told her that was fine, I shop around Wal-Mart and I told her I had already sign in - she became very upset with me. I went and got my nails done. Went back to the shop at 12:15 I stood at the door looked at the girl, she made eye contact with me but did not acknowledgement my presence. At 12:35 she finished with that customer and then just sat back and started to visit with her. I stood there till 12:45 with no contact from any of the stylist, so I wrote on the sign in sheet no service and left. I was made to feel they did not want my business. I am still in shock at the way I was treated. Customer are what keep your doors open and new customers help your business to grow. Bad customer service will close your business, I guess I know what these stylist want for this business. .

I PERSONALLY HAVE NOT HAD A ISSUE WITH WALMART SALON THEY DID GREAT WITH MY 2 YR OLD SON AND MY 5 YR OLD DAUGHTER I AM NOT DOWNING ANYONE FOR EXPRESSING THIER FEELINGS ON HERE BUT MAYBE NEXT TIME YOU SHOULD REALLY OBSERVE YOUR CUT AND IF YOU DONT LIKE IT ASK FOR A REFUND OR ASK THEM TO FIX IT CUZ THE STYLIST I HAD ASKED ME 3 TIMES IF I WAS SURE THATS WHAT I WANTED FOR MY KIDS SHE WAS AMAZING :)

No customer service!

My husband is in the army and needs a buzz cut every few weeks. He went to smart style 3 different times since we were going to walmart anyways. 2 out of the 3 times i had to fix spots she missed! I mean come on, its a buzz cut and they charge $15 plus you have to tip them. I now do his hair myself or go to a local hairstylist. Everyone who goes to any of these chain hair salons should find a small local hairstylist. They are cheaper and I have always gotten great colors and cuts. I have really long hair and a color (2 colors), cut, and dry usually costs me about $50 and they will do ANY style for me for the same price. You don't need to go to a local "salon" to get good service at a good price. A lot of times they welcome walk ins as well or will at least have an opening sometime that day. It may just be the owner or a 2-3 other stylists but they are usually experienced and do a great job.

OK, I have read all the complaints & honestly a few parts of some of them are legitimate. However there are many complaints & even some of the things being complained about in ALL the comments are a bit excessive.
I have worked in a high end salon, a mid end salon & now I am a manager for SmartStyle. I have to say that some of the things you are complaining about you will find in most salons; For example the extra charge for blow drying your hair, I know several extremely high priced salons that charge well over $35-$50+ dollars for a hair cut that does NOT include the blow dry, that can range anywhere fro $5-$20+ just for the blow dry. Not to mention that one of the middle of the road salons I worked for charged an additional $50 to use a flat iron & over $50 to curl it! Another thing to keep in mind is SmartStyle offers almost everything other salons do at lower prices because you are not having to pay for our advertising, a receptionist, assistants, etc. You are paying for the service & product & that is all!
Judging a company by a few questionable employees is not fair to do! I have mentioned this in my other comments however it deserve repeating. It doesn't matter if you go into a salon that charges $5, $15, $25, $40, $50 & up for hair cut, you are not guaranteed a great cut just because you paid a lot of money because it doesn't matter what you paid, if you get a stylist who doesn't like her job than chances are you will not receive the best service you could possibly get! However if you get a stylist who really enjoys what they do than you are most likely going to receive a great cut.
As for some of the complaints about waiting for over 30 minutes while the stylist, stylists on personal phone calls, etc. AND most important of all, If you are not advised prior to the service what will cost extra than you really need to ask if you may speak with a manager, (if they are not in that day, ask when they will be in next & if stopping in is not convenient for you than leave your name & number & ask that they call you). This part is very important as complaining on here will not resolve the issue. I know for a fact that customer service IS one of Smartstyle main focuses & they will try to come up with a solution that satisfies the customer. Many of the salons are under staffed right now & that is one of the main focuses to get the salons staffed with enough people to help decrease the waiting as well as other issues. I am proud to be working for this company & I will stand by the fact that my stylists as well as myself are highly trained as not only do we have to take just as much school as anyone else in the industry to obtain a license, SmartStyle offers continuing education so we can stay current with new techniques, trends, etc.
I have gone into extremely pricey restaurants and waited over 20-30 minutes before we even see our server to take our drink orders, I have had them walk up, never smile, take my order, (sometimes they don't even appear to be writing down what I am telling them I do or don't want with my meal), sure enough it comes to me wrong~when I chose to say something about it I have had the waitress grab the plate in a huff & storm off, she comes back with the right order, sets it abruptly in front of me NEVER once apologizing for the mix up! This does not mean I am never going back to that establishment due to one persons attitude. I will however, (if the experience is bad enough), mention this rude behavior so that the manager is aware.
Not only is there the manger to complain to with our company, there is a good sized sign clearly located on wall behind register with the customer service 888# to cal & they will be more than happy to work with you to rectify the situation so that you the client is satisfied.
I guess bottom line is, if you did not complain to anyone with the company than how do we know there was an issue so we can fix it! I know that I take these things very seriously as I live by the motto, "Treat others the way you wish to be treated"!
Please don't rule out ALL SmartStyle shops or stylists just because you received a bad job or hair cut!! can be done anywhere.
Lastly to those of you stating that we are a Walmart salon so you shouldn't expect quality! We have NOTHING to do with Walmart, we simply rent space from them!
In conclusion, if you are in IL near Round Lake Beach, i would love for you to come in to get your QUALITY service from myself or my other great stylist.

I agree that they should be better supervised than they are. I have always had this one lady do my hair and she is a manager of Smart style.. I went in and got my hair cut don't know if she was having a bad day or what. She cut my hair WAY shorter than normal and when I went to check out, she had charged me 3.oo bucks for a blow dry. I said I did not get the shampoo cause mine was clean and she said well that is what they charge for a blow dry.. OK so then she was fixing to throw away the receipt and I said may I have that? She handed it to me and I asked what the extra dollar was for ? It said conditioner, I did not have conditioner!!! She walked over to her station and grabbed a dollar off her area and handed it to me. They were having a special on hair cuts for 5.99 and she said WELL you got your cut for 5.99.. well does this mean that she was able to charge an extra dollar for something that we did not get in order for her to get a TIP? If she had 30 customers that day and charged them all a dollar that is 30 dollars in tips, not counting what people might give her as a tip.. WAL MART this is stealing from your customers, IF WE STOLE THAT FROM YOU, YOU WOULD BE READY TO PUT US IN JAIL.. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS STORY?

No customer service!

@Laura LM, thank you~your was such a refreshing comment to see. I just left a "high end" salon & took a management position at a SmartStyle so that I could help to turn the reputation that we are not a real salon or we don't do great job, have bad customer service, etc. I believe that if you love what you do you will be great at it & if you don't than you won't be great. That is with any job! I have just started & so far I have been told often that making the client happy is our main goal! I agree. For those saying that SmartStyle isn't a real salon, I am wondering what you consider a real salon? A salon where you are paying a much higher price so that the store can have a receptionist, stylist assistants, stylist who ONLY do color or cut but not both, where you are paying top dollar so they can afford pricey advertising? Those high prices are not for the stylist having a better education. In fact a lot of those salons don't offer continuing education it is up to the stylist to go out on there own & get the extra education. SmartStyle has paid education to keep their stylists up to date & constantly learning!
So please people before you judge ALL reasonably priced salons by a few bad eggs, take your complaints to Regis customer service so they are aware of the issues...you can't fix what you don't know is broken! I assure you they want to make sure you are happy.

I went into a smart style salon at bAYTOWN TX, walmart today.. The hair cuts were on special for 5.99 which I thought was great since money is very short at our house right now.. She did not have to shampoo cause I had just done my hair that morning.. OK she charged me the 3.00 also for drying .. She was throwing away the receipt and I said may I see that? My 5.99 cut was 10.oo by now. I looked at the receipt and I was charged a 1.00 for conditioner that I did not GET. I asked about it and she went to her cut station in a HUFF and grabbed a buck off and gave it to me.. SO now they must be charging you a buck for a TIP that you don't know you are paying!! WHEN she handed me the buck, she said WELL YOU GOT THE CUT FOR 5.99... SO does it mean when they have a special that they can charge you a tip ??OR do they do this all the time to everyone and we just don;t know it cause they wad up the ticket and throw it away without you seeing it ?? THIS woman is the manager over the salon .. SO if they charge a buck for each person that they cut that day. if it is 30 people they just gave themselves a 30 dollar tip for the day!! SEEMS to me that is stealing from people, what do you SAY WALMART??
