I have had this Acer Aspire 9420 series laptop for about 4 years, had the hinges replaced under warranty and other items. Now 18months on approx the back cover has cracked by the left hand hinge, As others have stated the back cover is impossible to locate , as this model is no longer available.
Spent over two weeks on the net trying to locate cover and sending emails back and forward to Acer, they are not interested as its out of warranty. Will NEVER but Acer again, other makes on the market at reasonable prices. Has any one tried to repair the back cover?
This definitely is a design and material problem, Acer should own up to this , they should replace the cover for free even if it is out of warranty as a good will gesture to all Acer laptop owners. If they carry on behaving like this it will not be long before they loose there market share, treating people like this. I have told colleagues at work to boycott ACER, with a work force of over 6000 hope this has a good impact on Acer.
Lets see some one taking on Acer.My next laptop purchase will never ever be Acer, even if they are half price.

I am the original poster to this forum. The new back I installed in 2010 finally cracked again last week and in the same location! Including this Laptop there are 4 Acers of this model in my family. ALL OF THEM HAVE CRACKED AT THE HINGE!!! If anyone reads this... do yourself a favor and AVOID Acer computers. The price may be appealing but the quality is not there! I have a 2004 HP Laptop that is still running strong with no defects. DO NOT BUY ACER! BUYER BEWARE!
