Misleading Information
We have just recently moved to London, for a two year posting. After receiving the visit from the ADT sales person, we agreed to go with them. As it steps up quite significantly in cost after 6 months, my husband questioned being able to cancel it and was told he could. Silly us for not reading the contract properly, as it is actually a 3 year lock in period. We have tried to cancel the contract, have not been able to escalate our concern as no manager or supervisor will take our call. We have just received a letter saying that we have signed the contract so that is the end of the matter. Given we are only in the country it clearly doesn't make sense that we would knowingly sign a three year contract. What a scam! Don't go near this company. Dodgy sales practices and misleading sales people!!

unexpected invoice
On 4th December I had an ADT residential system installed as I have some concerns for safety in my new house.
While I was at work a fire alarm installed by ADT was beeping intermittently for several hours. It subsequently stopped beeping. However in the meantime I called the helpline to see if someone could check the installation had gone ok. I was told this would not be charged.
Early in the day an engineer visited but could not find the control box. He came back at 5:30pm for 15mins, by which I had returned and showed him where was the box,. He tested the ADT fire alarm but couldn’t find any problem.
I subsequently received an invoice for £84. This invoice says that it is for “accidental activation by the client”. I have never accidentally activated the alarm! I can prove this.
I rang the customer help line: they said that the reason I was invoiced £84 is because that "engineer" looked at my other fire alarms. This is rubbish because
1) I was not informed that there would be an additional cost when he visited
2) I did not ask him to even look at my fire alarms, he did that all by himself – my child-minder who was also present at the time will attest to this.
3) If I had known there would be a charge (and such a huge one at that for 10mins work), I would certainly not have asked him to do the work
They are rubbish. So far, they haven't done anything about it, except I'm expected to navigate their beaurocratic maze and try to dispute the invoice!
