Denied refund by Aeromexico for cancelled flights by Aeromexico

We reserved a 9 day Mexico trip with Gate 1 Travel. Gate 1 Travel purchased the airline tickets for us from Aeromexico. The departure flight is on 5/2/2020 from LAX to Mexico City (MEX) and is a non-stop flight. The return flight is on 5/10/2020 from Guadalajara (GDL) to LAX and is also a non-stop flight, The confirmation code is YPROTM.

According to Gate 1 the round trip airfare via Aeromexico for two passengers is $706.64 that was booked on February 4, 2020. On April 19, 2020 we received three emails from Aeromexico. The first two emails indicated that the returning nonstop flight (AM 0782) from Guadalajara to Los Angeles had been changed to a connecting route starting 5/9/2010 (instead of 5/10/2010) and required an overnight wait for the connecting flight at the Mexico City. Subsequent to the two flight modification notices, the third email dated 4/19/2020 at 10:45 am further informed us that all the flights were cancelled. Today on the Gate 1 Travel website we found out that Aeromexico will only give us credit for future flight (must be taken by 2/5/2021) instead of a full refund. We contacted Gate 1 office today and was informed that Aeromexico provides credits only, no refunds. We then called Aeromexico and got the same answer as Gate 1 Travel told us.

The U.S. Department of Transportation Issued Enforcement Notice Clarifying air carriers refund requirements, given the impact of COVID-19 on April 3, 2020 as follows:

Clarifying, in the context of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency, that U.S. and foreign airlines remain obligated to provide a prompt refund to passengers for flights to, within, or from the United States when the carrier cancels the passenger's scheduled flight or makes a significant schedule change and the passenger chooses not to accept the alternative offered by the carrier. The obligation of airlines to provide refunds, including the ticket price and any optional fee charged for services a passenger is unable to use, does not cease when the flight disruptions are outside of the carrier's control (e.g., a result of government restrictions).

If Aeromexico refuses to refund us the cost of $706.64 then it violates the U.S. Department of Transportation Enforcement Notice. We are requesting a full refund in lieu of future credit. We wish Aeromexico would change its no-refund policy. We will pursue every legal means to get the refund including reporting this matter to proper U. S. government authorities.

refund of cancelled trip due to hospitalization

My two sisters and I were going to Mexico City (11/9/2018) along with a side trip tp San Miguel De Allente (11/9/2018) before returning home via San Francisco. airport on 11/13/18.
When boarding the plane to Mexico City one of my sisters became violently sick and taken off the fight to the nearest hospital. Needless to say she couldn't be cleared to fly and so we were not in Mexico City to take our side trip to San Miguel to the deep disappointment of all three of us.
When I booked the Aeromexico flight to San Miguel I thought I was booking it on Aeromexico. I would like a refund of the flights as Im not sure when we will be able to make the trip to Mexico.
thank you

Poor Customer Service

I was returning from Los Cabos, Mexico on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 when I encountered a charge for my checked bag. I was told the charge was $15 US dollars. I provided my credit card and the clerk informed me it would be charged in paso's. Upon receiving my credit card statement, I noticed I was not charged $15 US dollars, rather $71 US dollars. I have called and sent emails to their customer service refund section sine mid-September to no avail. No one has contacted me regarding my inquiry and the agents on the phone at the customer service section does not attempt to assist in obtaining any form of resolutions. I have asked for a manager on several occasions, but i am always told they are busy and cannot take my call. they will not accept my number to have zany one call me back rather tells me I can call back later, which you get a different person and go through the same dance again. It November and I have yet to speak with a manager or receive a response regarding my inquiry about the over charge for my checked bag.
This is extremely poor customer service, but extremely lucrative for the company if they over charge even 1% of their customer and make it impossible to reach anyone to address your concerns. I am sure I will not travel Aeromexico again given a choice. Very poor customer service, with an apparent impression to increase revenue by over change passages for checked bags.
