We too had the exact problem upon returning rental van to Avis at the Frankfurt airport. We had no problems/incidents with the vehicle, but within minutes of returning it the Avis employee "found" alloy rim and side vehicle damage that was almost impossible to see. They gave us an estimate for the damage on the spot and told us that when they had an estimate we would be informed of charges prior to credit card withdrawal. When we received a letter from Avis informing us of the cost we contacted Avis, as we believed that 1) we were not responsible for making these damages and 2) that the prices quoted for damage was a complete rip-off. We were asked to contact their "resolutions" department prior to contacting our credit card company regarding our insurance. We have now been waiting for them to get back to us for over three weeks. Also, we have since discovered that our credit card was charged the "estimated" price the very day we returned the rental vehicle. Hopefully our insurance will cover costs, but even so this is nothing more than a scam! STAY AWAY FROM AVIS FRANKFURT AIRPORT!!!!
