Layout
I normally consider myself very laid back, to laid back most likely. I can handle any situation with ease. For some reason, the Barnes and Noble, at a location I have gone to for years, decided to rearrange the entire store during COVID. Since then, I cannot walk into this location without becoming irritable and probably a little irrational. Here is the location:
Baybrook ll
1029 W Bay Area Blvd
Webster, TX 77598
281-554-8224
It just doesn't make any sense. Everything is in block sections, which would be fine if it made sense, but.... The fiction section! Ugh, I used to go straight there for Steven Berry and Dan Brown. Now I can't even find them! They aren't fiction any more! History and politics used to be in the back, making perfect sense together. Now they are split up into totally different sections of the store. Journals, cards, thank you notes and cards used to be all nicely lined. Today, it is in a small square up front, instead of being spaced out with room to browse. You'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. Economics also has a square, but another impossible to find section.
Now, I am only one person and at the end of the day it doesn't really matter because thankfully there is a Half Price Book store right down the road. I wish I understood why this change has turned me into a lunatic but I hoped if I put my feelings here I can finally get it out and wash my hands of a once loved bookstore gone dismal. So, I shall take myself and eight grandchildren to Half Price and I know I won't be missed and my tiny $500 a year won't be missed but in all honesty I miss the sanity and perfect layout of a bookstore that has been a part of my life since it opened. Sometimes, change is not for the better.

Prevented from shopping

Barnes and Noble Melbourne, Florida
My son and I were enjoying reading books. We had been in the store for more than half and hour. We were sitting quietly at a table, minding our own business. A woman employee came up close to us at our table and told us if we were not eating, then we had to wear a mask. I chose to leave, without purchasing the books. I will never be returning.
I have spent thousands of dollars there, but never again. It is unconstitutional and illegal to force people to hinder their oxygen intake in order to appeal to others' irrational fears.
Do people really believe that they are never going to "get sick" as long as they are eating? Do people really believe that cutting off one's oxygen intake is good for them? If they do, that is their problem, but I should never be forced to comply with their stupidity. I have a right to shop in peace, breathing the air, as we are designed to do.
They really ought to be ashamed of themselves. When they get sick, for real, because their immune systems are not operating properly due to limiting oxygen intake and breeding bacteria in their lungs, not to mention the synthetic fluoride from the mask... then maybe they will realize they should have used common sense instead of following the narrative.

Treated rudely
I have been a loyal customer of Barnes and Noble for many years. Today I went to return a book which was a duplicate Christmas present. I did not have receipt so was not sure if I could even do a return...no big deal. When I walked up to the register an employee began harassing me about returning. Saying she sees me in there a lot making returns and how generous B &N is for returning it! I explained to her that I never return things and yes she does see me in there buying items a lot. She gave me a look which clearly showed she did not believe me and walked away. I believe she may be the manager but not positive. Meanwhile I said to the other employee ringing me up that I was offended. She told me that I need to understand that everyone who returns things without a receipt always say they never bring things back. I was so steamed that I had to write this complaint. I never have complained in public about anything but I will not let this go especially since I have put so much money into this store! It was totally unnecessary to be treated in this manner!! I should have given the book to Good Will!

Treated rudely
Today I went to the Pittsfield Barnes and Noble to return a book that I had purchased . Since I did not have a receipt, they refused to let me return it. When I returned home, I had called the Barnes and Noble customer service number and the person on the phone told me that there was nothing that they could do because I did not have a receipt. They also explained to me that each store has a different policy regarding returns. After my phone conversation with the people in customer service was over, the person tried to convinve me to purchase a $25.00 membership card.
This is not my first problem that I have had with them either. In September, I ordered a book for a class that I was taking and they they told me that it would be in in a week. The book did not come in until after the class was over.(8 weeks) I have had it with them and refuse to shop at their store anymore.
