Bad Breeding Practices
Texas Family Bichons sold me a Bichon Frise puppy in 2007. She lived for only nine years, far less than the standard 14-17 among the breed. During her life, she had three bladder surgeries to remove stones and three leg surgeries to repair patellar luxation. She had allergies throughout her life. She was a very sweet dog and we loved her with all our hearts. Her premature death was because her kidneys just couldn't handle the last surgery. All tolled, we spent more than 20,000 for her medical bills for surgeries and weeks of intensive care.
We have just bought another Bichon from a reputable breeder in another state, and this time spent three full months reading up on and talking with breeders. I will say there are highly recommended breeders on both coasts that know of Texas Family Bichons and its poor breeding reputation. Just today I took the time to look at our little Bichon's pedigree. No wonder she was so unhealthy. There was an unbelievable amount of inbreeding in her litter. In fact, her father was her mother's son, and only 5 months old when he was bred to his own mother. And it went on and on. Inbreeding results in weakened immune systems and magnification of mutant genes that cause, among other things, bladder stone formation and patellar luxation and allergies.
I'm livid at what this couple will do to breed and sell puppies. So many dogs are suffering as a result.

Havachons
Went to see these puppies. I was not able to see parents, gave a lame excuse did not want parent to be expose to parvo. Also went to a resident that the puppies were not at, he had to bring us the puppies. Last they smelled awful like a kennel. That's three strikes aganist this place. I am not a breeder just a person wanting a sweet puppie.I was very disappointed to say thenleast. My advise stay away from Texas Family Bishons.

Bichon puppies
I also bought a puppy from Texas Family Bichons. While I don't know that I would exactly call them a "puppy mill", I certainly wouldn't recommend them--my puppy was diagnosed with Canine Lupus and had to be put to sleep at only 8 months old. I contacted the breeder, but was told they didn't consider this hereditary so they wouldn't replace the dog. Not only did we lose $500, but we were heartbroken at the loss of this sweet baby.
