automatic billing, charge for canceling

Blue Mountain like many companies this one automatically renews subscriptions for their service, on line e-card service. I have used this service in previous years but clearly their practices have changed. Unlike most companies when you realize that this automatic renewal has occurred and you ask them to cancel the subscription and credit you. Blue Mountain's policy is to charge you money for "processing" this cancellation. Granted its only $3.00, but this is a rip off. I would add that I do not recall any e mail notice that my subscription was about to lapse and that I would be automatically billed again.

Initially the phone representative started to advise me of his canned speech about how I "authorized the automatic billing" and somehow I agreed to the bogus "processing" fee. He stated that he'd credit the subscription charge, but he's have to charge me the processing fee. I politely thanked him for his effort in crediting the subscription price (the limit of what he could do) and then asked to speak to a supervisor to eliminate this bogus charge. I had to wait several minutes for him to return to advise me that there were problems in locating a supervisor. Several more minutes passed before he returned to say he would not charge me the processing fee. In all an eleven minute telephone call that monetarily was a loser, but hopefully this information assists anyone considering using these services.

I would add the the telephone options are designed to frustrate the average caller to locate a real person. The phone options are designed to cancel future charges not deal with current billing problems. Their phone system make it difficult to navigate around most of the telephone options which are primarily computer options and electronic voices.
