Deny all claims

Worst Home Warranty listed. They work the hardest to deny claims by deceiving customers once they get your money for the coverage. They don't cover what they say. read article June 15, 2015 where CHW paid 780,000 in a civil lawsuit, to customers for deceiving customers in order to deny claims.

Deceptive Practices

I purchased a home warranty with Choice Home Warranty. We submitted a claim for our 14 year old air conditioner since it stopped working. They sent a HVAC company out to take a look at it and we were told it was the air compressor and life expectancy is 13-15 years and ours was 14 years old. Hence
the reason we purchased a home warranty. The contractor said it wasn't anything we did wrong and should be covered since air compressors are not on the exclusion list. Choice Home Warranty told us immediately that the claim was denied since the compressor was grounded. They said something caused it to stop working (i.e., lightening or surge). Of which neither occurred. It broke because it was old. They offered me $200 in good will and wanted me to sign a document that says I cannot bad mouth them or take further action. I would love to understand the percent of claims approved for higher end items. My guess is that it is really low.

Denial of Claim

In May of 2016, I purchased a home warranty. My home warranty clearly states that there is no home inspection and that there is no limitations in coverage due to age. All appliances, a/c units and mechanical systems in the home are to be covered through this warranty. I contacted them immediately when my upstairs A/C unit suddenly stopped cooling. They dispatched a licensed technician out the next day. I received an email from Choice Home Warranty stating that I needed to call them immediately. They proceeded to tell me that my a/c claim would be denied because the compressor was out due to overheating and overworking the unit and that since I didn't properly maintain the unit, my claim would be denied. They also told me that if it was normal wear and tear it would have been covered. I was shocked to learn this because then unit had been serviced just a few months prior, and there had been no prior issues. I immediately called the technician who was dispatched by Choice Home Warranty to do the diagnostic on my A/C unit. I told him what Choice Home Warranty said about the unit and that they were denying my claim due to fault on my part not maintaining the unit. The Technician (hired by Choice Home Warranty), stated that he did not tell Choice Home Warranty that at all, in fact, he told him it was an older unit (11 years old) and that it was normal wear and tear. He also told them the unit was clean, filter was clean and it did appear the unit had been maintained. I called Choice to tell them what their technician told me, then they changed their story and began thinking of all kinds of bogus reasons they would deny the claim, such as, well it could have been struck by lightning, or suffered a power surge and we still won't cover it. I told them I was going to file a complaint against them. I was then told that they would resubmit my claim over for review, but that I had to show previous maintenance records, which is not required in my contract with them.

WarrantyService

Contacted Choice Home Warranty whom I pay for home warranty,for a A/C unit that wasn't cooling, tech showed up quickly although when I google them i can't find any information about them and they dont answer phone. Choice Warranty stated that my unit was old & had extensive fire damage from dirt & debris that made it overheat and was not covered, that was a LIE!! the tech left his report & fire was not mentioned, it smoked so he shut it down but no fire was reported, it was a older unit that had its time, which Choice Warranty states they will cover no matter how old. I have pictures there was no dirt or debris, nor fire., it seems that they come for the small stuff but when a larger claim is filed they look for any excuse to reject it. Im totally frustrated as I have 5 homes with them. I decided to cancel my service. they then charged me $ 50 cancellation fee for each account & for all past repairs so there was no refund on 2 accounts, On that same day I had to hire another Tech he inspected my unit, stated that the blower motor seized and needed to be changed $350.00, suggested a thermostat $125 & charged me a $89 service fee.I told him what CHW said, he said there was no dirt debris and no fire, its possible the other tech just touch a wire to make it spark, Unit runs like new now

Home appliaces warranty scam

I am really frustrated to deal with this company, Choice Home Warranty (CHW), and decided to terminate my contract with them even if cost me $50. I recently purchased 5yr old home and my realtor suggested this home appliance warranty. I had this AC unit stopped blowing cold air. I called CHW to request service, a technician came and looked at the unit and told my wife, i am at work, that needs Freon and parts are dirty. SO i called CHW to find out what is next step. I was asked to furnish two year worth of maintenance records of AC unit. What? you never asked this when selling the warranty. Now i pose as new customer and called the CHW to find out what is the deal. After all the sales pitching i asked the sales guy how if they need any maintenance records of the units. Then this guy asked me what state i am from i told NY and he said we are doing business in NY. Called two days later same as if i am new customer and this time asked the same question about the maintenance records and asked me what state I am from i told from VA and guess what he said this time exact same that CHW is not doing business in VA. Isn't it scam?

Claim refusal

The plumber assigned had not called after 2 days of the claim being reported. I called but did not get a return call. I thought, hey, they get busy, let me see if Choice Home Wrrty has another plumber they can assign quickly. I took the opport. to refer them to a plumbing co. who had serviced my claim while under a prior Wrrty co. It turned out the plumber was not yet with CHW but had his sign-on papers ready to go and was just waiting for callback from CHW anyway.

The plumber diagnosed the issue, communicated it to CHW. I've had good results with this plumber in the past with & without a wrrty co. so I felt I could rely on his assessmt.

Apparently he did not like the way CHW reacted to his report, and how he detected the customer was gonna get scammed by CHW. The plumber told me I need to request another plumber since he was pulling himself off from CHW, due to long paperwork wait, and CHW did not seem to have service for the customer in mind. He cautioned me to switch wrrty co, what's gonna happen if your water heater leaks, they gonna make you wait while water damage continues in your home?

Cannot reach the office by phone today. It would not surprise me if this company has closed its doors. I was told a ck for $204.95 would be mailed out on Mon 22 Feb 2010...I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE CHECK to purchase a dishwasher. $204.95 will actually buy about half a dishwasher but they don't give a damn about that. I have been without a dishwasher since the 7th Dec 2009 while they sent out shoddy repairmen to my house twice and they didn't fix it. I have rec'd nothing but the run around from this company and my outrage with them goes beyond words. Now the phone calls won't even go thru, not that it would do any good to complain..THEY JUST DON'T CARE!

All you have to do is check this site for complaints on this so called "company". All is true, no matter what the ceo, Mr. Moss says.
This is a backroom card scam. Even the techs who came out warned me about them. Hey, the Better Business B gave them an F. Protect yourself people and read the complaints on this site!

This is by far the worst company Ive ever had to deal with. The techs they send out to your house are unqualified and when they dont fix the problem choice wont give you the money bak for the service call and they will make you pay another service fee to get another tech out to fix the problem. If you can get a tech that can fix it the next problem is it is impossible to get them to pay to repair things that are in you contract. then when you call to complain or get answers they customer service reps hang up on you whenever theyre done explaining how they arent paying and wont refund your money. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Save yourself alot of headache and alot of money and go with a different warranty company.

Home Warranty Scam

I had a Choice Home warraty from 10/2009 to 12/2010. In May 2010 my A/C stop working and i contact to this SCAM Company. They senth some technician after 2 days and after that instead of repair they sent another tech for 2nd opinion. I already paid deductable to firt tech as it was part of contract. Now 2nd tech start asking money again. After 7 days they ask for maintaience document, which i provide them, but they did, nt repair A/C. They stat threatning by calling on my home phone. I complaint to BBB and their customer service manager offering me to cancel the policy instead of providing solution for A/C Repair.
Clearly they are Scammers, Only here to Collect premium from innocent people. Please check their rating on BBB, and read reviews on them. They are very Big SCAM, dont waste your money.

Denial of Claim

Refrigerator - denied. It seems to me if the appliance is not (brand) new, they will not replace it. Meaning they will cover only if the unit is new, which is a moot a point, since it should still be under manufacturing wrrty. Their authorization group seems very creative in coming up with excuses why they won't cover the unit.

Refusal of Service

Made a claim for AC repair. They sent a tech from Delta BAP AC repair who after inspection determined that there was no freon in system, a possible leak. He informed me that he would have to call CHW for authorization for repair. DeltaBAP reported back that company had informed him that they were placing my claim on the back burner.
I called, they requested and I forwarded service records for unit, which indicated it was working properly in March during annual inspection.
They then denied my claim in that there was a pre existing condition. I was unable to contact anyone in authroity and they did not respond to my letters. Made a claim to NJ BBB, CHW responded with a complete fabrication of any of the details.
I called Delta BAP back and showed them the CHW response to BBB complaint, they assured me thatstatements attributed to them were a complete fabrication.
I have had the unit repaired, there was not leak to the unit as stated by CHW. I have had Credit Card Company charge back last months service charge and requested a cancelation. As long as I didn't make a claim all was well. They just didn't want to service their policy. BAD GUYS...BAD BUSINESS
If your looking for a warranty company ... keep moving on, this is not for you.

unreasonable claim denial

I had problems with no heat on 1/31/10 . Called CHW. They finally got somebody out on 2/8/10 to check the heat pump system. The problem was a leak in the evaporator coil. The freon had leaked out. the company denied the claim on the basis that since I have been maintaining the unit myself every year, that it must be due to my negligence. I sent them a statement from the trained and licensed professionals they sent out to check the unit saying the unit was properly maintained and serviced. It also stated the problem was due to normal wear and tear and not a lack of maintance. Even with that information in hand, I was told in no uncertain words, that the claims rep. sitting behind his desk knows more about the situation than the professionals that physically looked at the unit. Claim denied. I would suggest to anyone looking for home warranty insurance, to look deeply into the track record of customer satisfaction. Do not rely on price alone.
