Website useless-outdated claims process

This is a quick notification for anyone who has a myCigna account. Please make sure to use your account at least one every couple of years because after that time, it deactivates. I tried to get in my account and file a claim (for a supplemental wellness type insurance, not my main insurance) and the system couldn’t locate me with any type of information I was trying to enter. I just finished talking to their web site assistance department and was told that after 2 years, your account is deactivated. I asked if they could reactivate it or if I could register for a new account and was told that I cannot. Once an account is deactivated, you’ll need to call in for any and all future transactions, questions, claim info, etc. You CANNOT access anything online after that time period.

I’m astounded that in this day and age (and as vast as Cigna is) that there is NO way that a new account can be created or the original one can’t be activated again. So, after getting over that fact (still trying to actually), the representative offered me a fax number or mail in address to send a claim. I asked him if there was an email address that these could be sent to as I’m currently working from home and don’t have access to a fax here. Again, I am astounded – he told me that there was no email address where claims could be submitted to. Just a fax number and mail in address. I’m curious, is this still 2020 where all things digital rule? I can’t believe that the claims submittal process for this company is SO outdated that I need to use a fax or mail the physical forms in. Really???

So now, when I snail mail my forms in, there is no way to look up the status online and who know how long I’ll have to wait until someone actually gets my forms before I can call in to speak with someone. There really has got to be a better way – CIGNA – PLEASE SEE THIS FEEDBACK AND FIX YOUR PROCESS!!!

Cigna Health Care Ignored My Case Now I Have No Medication

This is a complaint against Cigna my health insurance carrier. I've been diagnosed with chronic neurological Lyme disease and had to have a Hickman IV port implanted for a minimum of 3 months of IV medication. After I had the port implanted Cigna then flagged my case and then decided to review my case - again this was after the surgery. It took over a week and numerous calls on from me in order to get this straightened out and to get my medication. Due to Cigna the port went unflushed and uncleaned for over a week.

28 days later the doctor prescribed new medication. The Lyme has been undiagnosed, misdiagnosed and mistreated for over 8 years so the traditional 28 day treatment isn't enough.

On 8/28/14 I watched the doctor fax the prescription to Cigna and waited until confirmation that the fax went through before I left. I called Cigna that day or the next day to put them on notice that I need this medication by 9/16/14.

I've called countless times and kept asking Cigna if I can just have my doctor call them to resolve this and was always told no by Cigna. The Cigna case worker and company advocate - each follow up call was the same - we made some phone calls and it's being reviewed.

On Friday afternoon on 9/12/14 Cigna calls me and tells me that now they need the doctor to call them. After countless phone calls and the ineffecincy of all parties involved on Cigna's behalf - they dumped this problem onto me to fix and in the end with only 2 business before my medication is needed they now want me to call my doctor for a peer review of my case.

This could have been resolved had Cigna respected my request to have my doctor call. Instead Cigna dragged their heels, mishandled my case and now I'm not getting my medication in time. My symptoms are getting worse since I'm not on any medication.

I need medication and now thanks to Cigna I'm not getting my medication for 9/16/14. Since the medication is under review - Cigna denied me a nurse and cleaning supplies for the IV port so I had to pay out of pocket for the nurse and cleaning supplies.
