Forced Flood Policy
I have Citi Mortgage for a second mortgage. Since 1999, I have had flood insurance on my home, not a requirement by any of my lenders, just what I believe to be good policy since I was listed as Zone X and a preferred risk.
I refinanced more than a year ago, and my current primary mortgage owner did not pay the premium for the flood insurance. Citi pounced on this, charging me $1,800 for a policy I got reinstated for $450. My primary mortgage, my insurance company, FEMA and an elevation certificate I paid for all state that I am in Zone X, but Citi refuses to comply, wanting to charge me $548 for the few months when I didn't voluntarily maintain flood insurance.
I have submitted form after form, made multiple phone calls, to no avail. So to those that may read this, first and foremost, DO NOT USE CITI MORTGAGE. Second, if you are so unlucky and have them GET OUT NOW, if you can.
I will continue to fight them, on principle alone, to the point of taking them to small claims court. They need to stop this predatory practice....
