Decomposing Clarks shoes

For a reunion in central London I wore my 'rarely used' Clarks shoes (2nd best pair). On leaving the restaurant 4 hours later my shoes felt 'loose' and, on inspection, had fallen apart! I then walked through London in my socks (Luckily on a dry day.) and also, more painfully, a large gravel car park to reach my car to go home. Both shoes had completely come apart, uppers from internal structure from sole (Which had also cracked.). I took the shoes into the Clarks shop to be told "We know about this problem, it's called 'hydrolysis', we can give you a £10 voucher towards a new pair." [By definition hydrolysis is splitting by water and my house may not be perfect but it contains less water than the environment and at no point, when I bought the shoes was I informed that they would fall apart in a few years.]. I sent pictures to Clarks (see below). But with little result ("This style was made" - not necessarily bought- "over 10 years ago and shoes do that".) other than the renewal of the voucher offer. I won't be taking up the offer of the voucher, nor will I be buying Clarks shoes anymore. It's not so much the fact the shoes fell apart it's more the "We know it happens but why should we tell you!" attitude!
