Don't fulfill their end of the agreement
I rented one textbook from this company for a class last semester. The book did take longer than I had anticipated to arrive, but it arrived in good condition. My main problem with them is that they did not come through on their promise to send 3 reminder emails prior to the return date.
On the bottom of my receipt that came with the book they outline how to return your book once the rental period is over. Number one on this list states "You will receive 3 reminders, via email, prior to your return date." I received not one of these reminder emails (not in the spam filter either). I thought it was strange that I hadn't gotten my first reminder yet because I had a rough idea of when the due date was and I knew it was coming up soon. Luckily I decided to double check, I logged into my collegebookrenter account and low and behold the book was due THE NEXT DAY. In addition to this it was already marked overdue. I looked into the fine print and found a disclaimer stating that not receiving the reminder emails is not considered an adequate reason for late returns. Hmm, seems a little too coincidental that they put this disclaimer in the fine print, and on my first experience I do not get any of the reminder emails. I know they have my correct email address, because I still have the original confirmation email, and as soon as I logged back into the account I started getting junk mail from them again. I believe they intentionally don't send the reminder emails in order to cash in on the late fees.
Secondly, according to their policy, the books are not considered late as long as they are in transit by the due date. I logged into my account the day before the due date and it was already marked overdue, which made me panic. I took the book to UPS the next day and it was in transit by the due date. I called customer service to make sure this was indeed ok, and the woman on the phone assured me it was fine. I asked her why my book was already marked overdue the day before the due date and she said they were experiencing a glitch in the website.
So far I have not been billed for any late fees, but I am keeping a very close eye on my bank account because I do not trust this company. Needless to say, I would not recommend them.

Same thing. I believe you are more than right about them not sending the reminders to cash in on late fees. I'm a victim. And the collections lady told me that it was my fault and that this was time for me to grow up and take responsibility. When I asked if they had somewhere to make suggestions or complaints she said no even though they have a drop down that says "Tell us how we're doing." I emailed my complaint to that and also to general customer service.

Collegebookrenter.com is a horrible place to do business with. I paid $24.96 to get 2-3 day shipping on August 11th and my books are still not here. WTF!? So I called the customer service number and all they said was they ordered from a third party and theyre not sure where the book is. I have class tomorrow and my book is still not here. I thought I was saving money with them, but the stress of not having your book for class is overbearing. The supervisor then stated that they will split the difference from regular shipping which was included, to what I paid. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! THEY ARE HORRIBLE AND DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR VALUES!
Go to your local book store or buy from another student.

I rented $94 worth of books 2 weeks before school started. Unfortunately one of my classes cancelled and the other the professor changed the textbook. I missed the 20 day refund period and asked if there was anyway they could just charge me for the week and refund me my $$$ since the books were already on there way back to them. I was told no way no how was I getting a refund of any kind. So I'm completely out all this money. I will never again rent a single book from them again. Bookrenter.com is a little more expensive but has superb customer service.
