demand for large security deposit Revealing private information without permission
I have been a Con Ed customer since the 1960's when i bought a 9 apartment building in Manhattan. Never any problems till now.The building has access to either oil or gas for heating and hot water. Over the past year I switched from Oil to natural gas supplied by ConEd. Last year I was twice less than 4 weeks late in paying their bill and they sent me a letter demanding a security deposit of $2,362 which i refused to pay while I was paying the bills for gas actually used. They sent letters to all my tenants threatening to cut off gas to the building and also giving my current mailing address which I had not given to my tenants who were able to reach me by phone or email in case of problems..I have now switched back to oil which I buy from a company with whom I have had no problems and from whom I will get gas if I decide to switch back.. I am dismayed Con Ed revealed my address without my permission and I consider this a serious invasion of my privacy so I would like advice about how I can get restitution. I consider it shameful that Con Edison has a monopoly on the delivery of gas and electricity to NYC and would like to join with others to demand an end to this situation. All email advice welcome.
