When the AC quit in June 2014 @ 11:30 pm the only company that could respond was One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning LAs Vegas< Nevada. Upon arrival the technician troubleshot the problem to be a failed start capacitor on the AC Compressor. He presented an estimate of $650.00 repair which included late fees for after 10:00 pm emergency call etc etc and then presented a Direct Energy Contract for total of $450.00 the service contract would absorb some of the cost and give me protection for a full year. It is 12:25 am and I have a house full of guest trying to sleep in 102 degree heat. So I opted for the Service Contract. Now a year later I find out it is an AUTO-RENEWAL for 298.00. I called to request to cancel as I no longer need contract as I had an entire NEW home heating & AC system installed and is fully covered for 3 years by the retailer I purchased it from. I have now been informed that the only way I can cancel is in writing with the service contract number, address of residence, valid email and the request must be postmarked 30 days or more. HOW RIDICULOUS! Only took a phone call to start but jump through hoops to stop it. I called but was transferred 3 times and I got the same response I have to CANCEL IN WRITING. SO I have contacted the bank and informed them to put this company on my fraudulent watch list for charges, sent Direct Energy their written request to CANCEL. Filed complaints to BBB against BOTH companies for fraudulent deception practices and OVERCHARGING. I found later the original Start Capacitor is only a $29.99 priced component and normal installation is $75.00.
It is without a doubt these fraudulent business practices and pricing is what is driving the American Business into the ground.

We tried to cancel the Plan, but got told we would be billed for the remainder of the year, which was 11 months!!! How is this legal, they automatically renewed us.

Stay away from Direct Energy plans, they are a scam
