New Leaking Duracell Batteries

I have experienced numerous leaking Duracell batteries well before their expiration dates. I have 4 brand new 20 packs of AAA batteries with a best by date of DEC 2023 and all the cells are leaking. These were stored in our basement, which is climate controlled, finished off, and dry. I have experienced leaking in several devices including flashlights, remote controls and computer mice. I will NEVER purchase Duracell batteries ever again. Duracell was once the premier brand that you could count on. The quality and dependability are worse than old store brand batteries from the 80's. What a shame that quality can destroy a brand. I regret spending my money on these batteries not to mention the damage they have caused in my devices. Avoid Duracell batteries and choose Energizer or alternatives.

leaking batteries

I have had to toss 3 flashlights in the last year due to leaking batteries. When I test them all but the one that leaked are fine, this tells me QC sucks at Duracell had these been one of my Surefire I would have gone nuts. I live off-grid and buy bulk packs I have gotten packs with dead batteries in them. A couple of years ago my wife called the CS # and the lay was real nice said how sorry she was and would send her a $30 coupon, we got one for 10, that won't even cover one pack. After today's fiasco, I am done. I have tried cheap Ray o Vac and not had this happen after years of a cheap light sitting in a drawer. SCREW DURACELL

Leaking Batteries

New Optimum AA Batteries, leaking batteries purchased approx 6 months ago ruined MAG flashlight. . I open the box today to get new batteries out. The tray has not been opened and there are three leaking batteries in the tray.

I believe the problem may not be the batteries, but the way they are packaged The batteries are lined up the same way as if they were in a device. Even with the plastic divider I believe the batteries are discharging.

No matter if it is the packaging or the batteries. I will not be buying anymore Duracell Batteries!

Leaking batteries

In the past year I have thrown out 5 electronic devices, a TV remote, two duracell flashlights, a wall clock, and a multimeter, all due to Duracell batteries leaking in the units and destroying the internal parts, rendering all inoperative. The batteries were all well within their guarantee life dates. Most of these batteries came from bulk packs purchased at Costco. The problem I've noticed seems to be with cylindrical batteries i.e. AA and AAA, but I have decided to dump all Duracell batteries and replace with Energizers which may be a little more costly but not when you consider the price of having to replace devices.

Leaking Batteries

I have used Duracell batteries for many year. It's the battery I have always trusted, but I have been noticing that the quality of Duracell AAA and AA batteries has really went down over the years. Today my alarm keypad was beeping because it indicated that the batteries are low. I opened the keypad to change the batteries and the batteries had leaked inside the keypad causing a lot of corrosion. The batteries are dated March 2026. I was able to clean most of the corrosion and the contacts. I replaced the batteries and the low battery indicator is now green. The thing is my alarm still beeps as if the batteries are low. I hope it didn't ruin my alarm keypad. :-( This is not the only time I have had Duracell batteries leaking. I had bought a 32 pack of AAAs Dated 2023 from Costco and only used about 10 batteries. When I went to get more batteries from the package maybe about 2 months later the rest of the batteries had corrosion from the batteries leaking. I don't know if all the batteries were bad, but I had to get rid of all of the rest of the pack. There are also other instances when the batteries have leaked. I don't know what happened to the quality, but it isn't like it used to be. Time to find a new battery.

Defectice Duracell Batteries

I have been using Duracell Coppertone Alkaline batteries for over 15 years now and they worked great. Recently I opened a package of batteries staled to expire Dec 2022 and several of them start leaking and ruining several different items, including clocks, flashlights, and other battery operated pieces of equipment. I am concerned as to what happened to Duracell and why they no notice has been posted on the internet about these defective batteries. Recall notices of defective products used to be issued to protect the consumer from physical and financial harm from defective products. But it appears that companies are so corrupt and evil that instead of protecting the consumer from their cheap garbage they produce, they sell harmful products with no regard for their customers or this world. So who else out there has been screwed by these cheap products produced by Duracell?

Duracell AA batteries

I am a landlord. I had my electrician install new AA Duracell Alkaline Batteries in all of the First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms in the building on May 8, 2017. The batteries had an expiration date of Mar 2026. TODAY Sept 30, 2019 one of my tenants had to remove the Smoke Alarm in her living room because it went off when there was no problem. When she looked at the batteries one of them had been leaking from the bottom and was a mess. She keeps a battery tester in the apartment. So she tested both batteries. Even the battery that was leaking tested that it had plenty of juice. So what happens in that case? If a battery that leaks still has juice in it, can it cause a fire? Say in the case where it might be used in something that doesn’t make an ungodly noise? Or if an alarm goes off when a person could be on vacation and no one could hear the noise? Just how dangerous can this leaking battery issue be?

We have changed from alkaline batteries as we heard that duracell batteries are lasting 10 times longer. But we have purchased batteries and had so many problems our rc car remote control had the batteries in for a month acid started leaking out. Our tv remote, camera an xbox remotes all had to be cleaned out because of leaking batteries. When we tried to complain on the website it wouldn't submit. We are dissapointed in this product it does definately not last 10 times longer.

Duracell Quantum

I bought two 36 packs of Duracell's Quantum batteries, and they have a VERY short life span when compared with other batteries. I paid extra expecting to see better quality and life. But the results are the opposite and disappointing.

Batteries getting very hot & smoking

Bought a ten pack of AA Duracel 10 year batteries at Home Depot. Installed 4 in a plastic battery holder and it got very hot and started to melt the plastic. Tried another 4 and within minutes the same thing happened. Returned the batteries with an article from of burning Duracel batteries from a complaint website for Duracel.

Purchased Energizers and everthing woked out fine.

Quality of Quantum battery

I bought a set (8 pack), of the Duracell Quantum batteries, over Christmas time to supplement my son's toys for Christmas. This is/was my first time purchasing this particular brand, and certainly the last. 2 sets of toys, neither one worked from the batteries, and past confidence in Duracell products actually near convinced me, that no - it CANNOT be the batteries. Well as I was doing some spring cleaning over this past weekend, I came across these neglected items that were thought just not to work, swapped the batteries for some $5.99 pack of Rayovac Batteries, and guess what? My son now has two great working toys! I checked the power charges of some of the batteries, don't even show enough power to show dead battery. For a little more than 2x the cost of an average everyday competitor, I thought this was a very poor job by you all.

Defective Hearing Aid Batteries

To Whom it may concern:

I bought a six pack of hearing aid batteries and only one battery worked. This is.so very disappointing as the batteries are crucial for my everyday life. I tried to take them back to the store but because they were open, and yes even with the receipt, they refused to replace them. So I am writing my concerns as to me it was a waste of my precious money that I really cant afford. Is there some way we can resolve this problem, so I can go back to hearing again?

Exploding BATTERIES

We have always purchased Duracell batteries, for years never had any problems until recently. Our 7 year old grandsons walkie talkie batteries exploded runing of course the walkie talkie. We of course checked the date to make sure that it hadn't expired the date on the battery was 12/2023 I put the battery in them myself that day 7/12/17,no they hadn't been used before we purchase them from B.J's. Now today our kitchen clock stopped running time for a new battery no I was shocked to find out that the battery had ruined my clock as well. Being so upset about the money we had spent on not only the walkie talkies, my kitchen clock and the batteries everything hit the garbage can. We would be handling this a whole different way if our grandson was serious injured. I tried to call the customer service department to voice my complaint only to find out that the number had been disconnected. I'm so disappointed with the quality of your batteries really don't we're plan on purchasing them again. You can believe that I'll be sharing my experience with my friends and family. Debbie

Leaking Duracells

I've used Duracells "religiously"... probably since the early 70s because they NEVER leaked! Eveready batteries leaked, Ray-O-Vac batteries leaked, Burgess batteries leaked, but Duracell just died and did NOT leak! But for the past several years time and again I've been cleaning up after Duracell!!! What's going on with them?! I just sent a "complaint" to Duracell about a digital wall clock with leaking Duracells... but won't hold my breath.... I've had my good aluminum flashlights ruined from leaking Duracells -- flashlights that are no longer made so I managed to disassemble and clean them up the best I could. (They're no longer made.) Even thought they are heavily etched from the leaking Duracells, they're worth more to me that way than junk flashlights Duracell would probably send me IF they did "replace" them.

Weak and leaking Duracell

1. I found many batteries leaking in my devices in the past two years. I have been using Duracell for decades and I have never experienced any problem before 2 years ago. I spent hours with cleaning battery holders. (Types: AA, AAA, C) Of course the contacts will never be perfect again :(

2. Weak Duracell or low battery voltage. Sometimes I check voltage of new batteries. I often measured values below nominal voltage.
- 6-8-time check in the past few months of brand new 2032 bat. (best before 2024) without load 2.2-2.5 V iso 3 V as minimum!
- A few times I checked AAA batteries with the above conditions (best before 2024). 1.3-1.4 V iso 1.5 min. nominal voltage.

When I started using Duracell, someone told me that Duracell pays for the device if contaminated by spillage. I don't know if it is/was true but he convinced me about its good quality. Now I am disappointed.

2017.FEB.27.
Regards, I.
