I had the worst , rudest most humiliating encounter with The Plymouth, Ma Eastern Bank Manager.
Summary : Im the only caregiver / health care proxy to my older brother who was recently put in a nursing home due to multiple strokes.

After 9 days at a facility he didnt like, I had him moved to a nicer place which was a closer distance to my home.
Its been stressful as I am a 57 yo disabled /low income single mother and have been spending extra money on gas, food and treats to bring to him during my 2-3 visits per wk . Im the only family member who can help, as our other 2 brothers both died this past yr .

I recently applied for a refund ck on behalf of my brother from the first nursing home because he pd upfront for the month, but left on day 9.

He told me to have the check made out to me, as he wanted to gift me the money to reimburse 4 mos of expenses that he knew were a hardship to me, and he also wanted to treat his nephew to an iPhone and a few necessities. Unfortunately, I already requested the ck in his name, as I wasn't expecting a gift.

While waiting for the check to come in the mail, my brother and I had several conversations re the gift money that he brought up and he was excited to give. I was cautiously optimistic because he has had some issues w confusion, that come and go. I didnt want the money if there was any doubt because Im over protective and looking out for him, NOT myself.

Ok, check comes yesterday so I call the Plymouth, Ma Main St branch and I speak to Hunter (he had met my brother a few days earlier when he went to the nursing home to assist my brother w his banking/payment to the facility .

Hunter was going to meet w my brother and I today to assist w the refund ck and my brothers other banking needs , checks ect. (He left his house by ambulance 5 mos ago when he was discovered unconscious on the floor during a police well being check, so he didnt take anything with him.)

I got a call from Hunter this morning, saying his manager said he couldn't meet w us that it was a liability...whatever that meant?.....mind you he went last wk w no problem.

So, when I got to the nursing home my brother requested that I get Hunter on the phone, so he could speak directly to him
Hunter answered and asked my sick bedridden elderly brother to hold the line a sec. 25 min passed and we waited and waited

Finally I hung up, furious now, becuz my brother was exhausted, waiting for his lunch and meds and his own bank was greatly inconveniencing him.
He asked me to call back and get the manager so I did. This guy was so rude, he spoke over me, wouldn't answer my questions and as I was passing the phone to my brother he hung up on him.

It gets worse ......next thing I know the nurses and 3 woman from the nursing facility business office pile into my brothers room, then escort me to a conference room to question why Im trying to get money from my brother's bank acct ( I was not.) I thought because my brother and I were both so upset w the banker that maybe they thought he and I were arguing, nope, it gets worse....

Evidently while Hunter had my sick brother on hold during those 25 min, he called the business office and evidently alarmed them that I was either scamming or exploiting my own brother for money.

It was the most upsetting, humiliating experience I've ever had. Not only was I in tears over paying off all my bills last night (based on the plan Hunter made w me yesterday) leaving myself penniless till my next check in May. My brother was furious at the bank and now I was practically being accussed of some alleged scam or attempt at fraud from the staff.

Evidently nursing home patients cant gift anyone money. I knew that at some point when his funds get exhausted he needs to apply for Medicaid, and at that point the State will put a lean on his house. In fact, they will also take money he has left in his will etc
This is precisely why he was gifting my son and I the $3,531 refund ck now, since he knows the state will eat up all his hard earned $ including what he left us in his will (lot more than the 3 grand gesture.)

I guess family members do exploit their own blood, but this was Not the case, nor would I ever do such a thing . We were open and transparent and the eastern bank had no right to call the NH office on my brother and I.
I left in tears, my brother spiraled out if control and everyone looked at me like I was attempting to commit a crime.
