layaway refund

I had put 2 diamond rings on layaway that was paid in full. I was out of state for about 8 months and when I went into the Sears store they said it was cancelled. The amount was about $1,800.00 for the 2 rings. I have never received my refund and have called about 20 times. How can i get my money back?
