Misrep / fraud

Unfortunately if you are reading this you did what I did and googled get a room fraud after getting taken and found this site. They represent themselves as the actual hotel on-line and as an authorized agent on the phone. After booking and getting my confirmation I knew right away something was up. I booked over the phone. I was told the cancellation policy. They said cancel before 12/21 and get a full refund. I honestly don't remember if she said the year but the confirmation that was emailed said cancel before 12/21/2016 or pay a $105.75 cancellation fee. So I had to cancel 10 months BEFORE I made the reservation. When I noticed this I called the actual hotel. They told me they don't see any record of a reservation and that what I booked is impossible because they have a strict 4 night minimum policy that time of year. I booked the 4 nights with the actual hotel and it was 300 cheaper for a better room than the 3 nights I booked with Get A Room. Reading some of the other reviews I have no doubt that because my trip was months away I would have showed up to no room and would have had to go through tremendous hoops to recoup all my money. As it stands I have a confirmation that they will refund me in full less the cancellation fee and I was told by the rep that my request to waive the cancellation fee has been submitted to her management. This is me cancelling 30 minutes after I made the reservation! The next call was to my credit card company to dispute the whole charge. Pretty sure I have a case if they don't refund amount less the cancellation fee since I have a confirmation. As far as cancellation fee...I would imagine they probably recorded the call and if she said 2016 and I missed it and well that's on me. It's definitely misrep. Another fun fact: the actual hotel agent said she knows all their 3rd party booking companies and get a room is not one. And if they sent me a confirmation I should already be in the hotels system.

LIES, LIES, LIES, AND STOLEN CREDIT CARD

I booked through Kayak and ended up on Get A Room. They booked me into the wrong hotel, on the wrong date and told me they could adjust the dates if I first booked the proper dates and they would send me to their agent afterwards. I booked this, and the subsequent agent refused to refund the first booking. I called again and listened to the Get A Room call taker politely say that she would help me, but the hotel had to cancel the booking. After several more calls, I visited the hotel and they canceled the booing.. I called back and informed the call taker. She stated that they would be happy to change the booking, but the hotel was uncooperative. In fact, the call taker claimed to be calling the hotel, and as I stood there in front of the front desk, there was not a single such call. The call taker eventually came on and said that she was doing her best, but the hotel was not cooperative. I asked her to tell me exactly which hotel she was calling and she stated its name. I told her I was standing in front of the only clerk there. She asked me to hold. I held. And held. And held. 25 minutes later I hung up. The clerk volunteered to call Get A Room back, and they said that I was the only one who could change the booking. HE said that he was standing with me. They eventually put HIM on hold, and after ten minutes it became obvious that they never intended to come back to the call. While waiting I amused myself by reading all the horrible experiences that others have had with Get A Room. It appears that they take your credit card for the booking, but pay the hotel with their own, so that all cancelations are simply "money in their pocket". I suppose that helps them keep their rates so low that their bad ratings don't end up killing them. Then I called my credit card company and had THEM reverse the charge. This was the only instance on this trip that I used the card that was not at a secure machine. Two days later I find two charges on this card for air transport to Mumbai India, Almost $3000.00 These were the only people who had the numbers to this card, which I use rarely, and never over the phone (it had been re-issued with new numbers less than one month before). I can't believe that these guys actually would do such a thing, but I can't think of any other instance where the card could have been lifted.

So, if you want a cheap room, and their prices are pretty darn cheap, these guys will subsidize you, evidently, by cheating all the OTHER customers. Just never ever ever have to make a change. Ever.
