Hair Club Hiding Critical Facts

This is a complain against Hair Club Company's Marketing and Management.
I can be reached on +1-317-771-7130.

MUST READ:
They convinced me to signup for Non Surgical Procedure to restore my hair loss, and I paid close to $4000 for it in 2014. Here is what I experienced.....

TWO PART PROBLEM:

The 1st part is that you will be in for a bad surprise when you come to know in your first appointment after above payment, that it is only a wig (a mesh with hair looking like your natural hair stuck on to it). And to top it off, it will be GLUED to your scalp with an ADHESIVE! But by this time it will be too late, and you will be in distress of your hair loss, and the payment of the above amount that you have already made some weeks ago, thinking of it to be a long term / semi permanent scientific procedure solving your hair restoration problem [misleading marketing tactics of making it sound like some scientific procedure with terms like matrix (for wig), and Hair restoration, polyfuse (for adhesive) etc], and so you might not fight back (Hairclub knows this well).

The 2nd part of the problem is really the kicker. You will discover in your second so-called follow up service / maintenance appointment that they will not actually service the same wig. They will in fact replace it with a new one, immediately triggering in your mind questions like - What is the life of this product? Why was I not told that it needs replacements that soon? While you were thinking of this payment of $4000 for some sort of a semi permanent solution with only necessary follow-up maintenance appointments, it was in fact a charge for three separate wigs, each lasting only a few months!

I AM HURT AND FEEL CHEATED:
If you are a woman, and God forbid, if you chose to trim your hair before applying the first wig, believing that it will last for several years, you will now depend on those expensive wigs for the rest of your life. (Hairclub knows this very well as well, but your dependence is their profit). This has hurt me a lot over the years, and I know this has disturbed my budget terribly, and I feel I have been fooled under broad daylight by Hairclub. After reading the contract, any paying customer would be led to believe this is a single procedure with only expected follow-up service appointments, let alone the fact that it's a wig, much less it needs replacements that soon, almost every 6 months. They ruined this important aspect of my life, and now I am helpless and dependent! The adhesive has made me bald in certain portions of my scalp as well, by its constant application, and I had no idea I would have to apply it when I was first signing the contract! I was not given the slightest idea, that this will be such a costly recurring expense, and this has left bitter feelings in my mind and soul.

ETHICS:
I am sure Hair Club is now going to get defensive and try to put the blame on the customer, but it is very clear to me that they can easily make efforts to not hide critical facts during their marketing, or in contractual wordings, and improve a great deal on their transparency. It's a matter of ethics, and it's a matter of a very important aspect of someone else's life and heavy financial demands of this procedure, not just about their monetary profits! I hope Hair Club realizes this!

APPRECIATION:
However, I am not just about "Service-Provider bashing". I appreciate the good as well. And the good thing is that their specialists are really skilled and co-operative. They are accommodative and polite. The 2 stars are only and only for their hair specialists. I have a problem with their marketing tactics, their contract wordings, and with their management for hiding critical facts from paying customers.

NEW PROBLEM:
And now my new problem is that they are planning to hike up the price of each wig / mesh by a considerable amount (from $1500 to as much as $1800), above and beyond all the afore described problems I discovered along the way, and have been experiencing for past 4.5 years!

Hiding Critical Information. (Money Extraction)

If they convince you that Non-Surgical solution is your only best option, here is how their marketing team hides critical facts before you make the payment!

1. They will convince you it's some advanced scientific procedure, by the use of terms like Biometric Mesh, Hair Restoration etc.

2. They will convince you that only the affected areas of your scalp will be covered, and that, the other good hair will remain unaffected in their growth.

3.They will convince you that you will need to make a "one-time" payment of $4500 for the whole procedure / program which includes 3 free services. They will mention that you need to schedule maintenance, shampoo appointments for a nominal fee when needed after that.

4. Then you will be impressed with their marketing and end up making the so-called one time payment of $4500 and wait for a month or two.

5. Then, 1-2 months later, on the day of the "procedure", you will be surprised to learn that this is nothing but a customized wig (a mesh which has hair that look like your natural hair stuck over it).

6. You will get a second shocker when you realize that they are going to use an advanced adhesive to glue this mesh onto your scalp.

7. Critical points 5 & 6 will never ever be mentioned to you during the marketing campaign and initial meetings, when they do the paperwork and ask for the payment.

8. Since you have made the huge payment 1-2 months ago, and since you are already in a distress with your hair loss, you will not fight back too much and just accept what they do on the day of the procedure.

9. Then they will give you a choice if you would like to cut whatever natural hair you have which fall below the wig, or glue the wig above those natural hair.

10. If you chose to cut those hair, they will make you sign a document indicating your approval. You can go ahead sticking the wig without cutting your natural hair also.

11. You are now nervous that a wig is glued to your head. It might look good or it may not, depends on your liking. It maybe comfortable or it might itch if you are unlucky. But now you are fully signed up!

12. If in distress, you chose to cut your hair in point 10, you are now completely dependent on their product for life, particularly if you are a woman.

13. You will go there 2-3 months later as a part of the initial program (whether or not you scheduled any intermediate maintenance appointments). They will use an alcohol solution to loosen the glue and remove the wig.

14. If the glue has hardened too much they may even have to partly cut your natural hair to set free the wig. Now, you were never made aware of this ever before!

15. With the mess that the glue creates, and the cover of the wig, whatever good hair you have will also not have grown well, or have to be partly cut to remove the wig, resulting in more natural hair loss.

15. After removing the wig, you will feel sad when you see in the mirror that whatever natural hair you had, thinning or normal, have been further negatively affected by the wig.

16. Then they will replace the wig with a new and similar one, and again glue it up the way they did 2-3 months ago. This is when we discovered that the wig is not a one time investment, it needs to be changed every few months, leading to the question for the first time - what after the $4500 program is over? But it was too late.

17. That's when you will start to realize that this $4500 was in fact for 3 separate wigs to be replaced after every 2-3 months as a part of the initially signed program. The replacement was made to look like a service on the same wig!

18. You will have the painful realization that, while you had not fully understood the hidden negatives mentioned above (because their contract is worded in such a way that it seems like a long-term procedure with only follow-up services), you have already given Hairclub a business of 3 wigs, thinking of it as a one time fee for some scientifically advanced procedure followed by 3 follow up cleaning / maintenance services. To top it off, they make you return the previous wig once removed and replaced with a new one as a part of $4500 program.

19. The wig and the glue last for about an year, and there is no need to make customers sign up for 3 wigs at a time, that too while keeping them in the impression that this is a one time fee for some procedure.

20. You will also have the painful realization, particularly if you are a woman, that now you have to keep paying $1500+ for every wig you purchase every year, probably for the rest of your life. And you thought it's a one long-term solution!

21. The cost of their expensive shampoos, and supplies like the adhesive and conditioners will be a separate expense if you decide to maintain the wig yourself.

22. While you have this wig on, you cannot try any other hair loss remedy because obviously your natural hair are locked below the glued wig, and they are thinning even more probably because of no exposure to sunlight nor fresh air.

23. The specialists demonstrated flexibility, patience, politeness and genuinity all through out, but the marketing team creates a false picture of this procedure. It was the specialist who broke to us that we get 3 wigs when we signup for initial $4500 program.

24. The mesh is a good solution for men because they can remove it if they don't like it and stay bald, but women should not be made to believe this is a one time solution, because it is not!

25. Tips: Not good if you don't live close to the Hairclub.

26. Not good if you are a woman below 60 years since you have a lot of scope to try other solutions before finally deciding to cut your hair and apply a wig as a last option. The wig will permanently close all other options and increase life long dependency.

27. Definitely not good if you cannot afford a constant expense of about $2500 every year, because, I repeat, this is not a long-term solution, as they claim it to be. Its just a $1500+ wig, and it needs to be replaced every few months.
