Jacked up Prices

Hobby Lobby jacks its prices up so high that even IF you happen to have a 40% off coupon, you can still find it cheaper regular price at Joanns or Michaels. Is this the way a Christian ought to do business?

Tax exempt for churches

I have shopped at HobbyLobby for many years and I buy a lot of merchandise for our church at Hobby Lobby. The last time I bought a large order for church was in May or June. When I went to check out they refused to let me use my tax exempt card they had always let that is why they did not have to work on Sundaysme use, they told me it was out of date and I needed to update my file.So this meant that my six hundred dollar sale was going to have tax added to it.I told them that this was a Church honoring Co.and that is why they did not have to work on Sundays. To me it is like taxing God for His sale.I thought this was against the law any way..I paid the taxes and went on my way.Today I went to the store again and I took my tax exempt certificate and they told me it was fine and they would renew my card at the check out.Well that was a lie, after I finished shopping for Christmas for my Church I had 769.00 in merchandise and went to check out. They told me I could not use my certificate because it crossed the state line. That store is only 30 miles from my home,if I used the Columbia TN.store It would double my mileage .The clerk was rude and the lady who claimed to be an ast.manager did not even bother to check to see what the problem was.She just said NO with no discussion.
Our church is less than a mile across the state line.I think this is totally unfair after all it is for the Church and they are not suppose to be taxed.Regardless of where they are located. My Church is Bonnertown Baptist Church in TN about 3 miles from Lexington AL. My name is Cassie Cleveland from Bonnertown I can be reached at 931-556-3042

Ride employees

I was at hobby lobby with my mom who is an artist and we were looking at the frames. When this little kid pee pee all over the floor my mom almost fell. She asked for a paper towel to wipe her feet so she wouldn't fall. But she almost slipped. When the guy who works there apologized to the woman who's son peed all over floor. The women they had called to clean it up couldn't be bothered. They yelled at me because they said I was tracking it if they would have done there job in the first place it wouldn't have spread. It was already on the floor to begin with we weren't the only ones there. They should be glad people are shopping in the store i wonder if corporate even reads these.

JoAnn 60%off coupon phone sales ad

At JoAnn, each employee I talked to was like talking to my neighbors. (Sometime in stores woman will take their PMS out on you). There was none of that.
They helped with item details, I learned a lot. I was able make more informed decisions for my needs. Great so far.
Finally, I have the money and a 60%off coupon on my phone. BUT, Now I go to pay, coupon does not work. Ok I deleted that ad.The next day on my phone, new ad "Oops, here is your 60% off". For a while I have not been able to buy a nice cutting mat. I go back, day two. (the atmosphere pulls you back!) It did not work either. It said it expired the day before???? I bought 40% scissors but not what I went to buy. So I deleted JoAnn app off. Back to buying online.

Accused of Theft

My brother and I were accused of theft. After we paid for our items we beeped on the way out. The manager approached my brother and said "give it to me." He emptied his pockets and there was a wallet, a phone and vitamin c packet. They took the packet not recognizing it and said "we can run this through our system." My brother said go ahead. Realizing they were wrong they told us to leave and never come back or they'd arrest us. I don't know how this could be with no proof that we stole. I am never going back here again.

Accused of theft

My brother and I were shopping in the store buying markers. He beeped on the way in and they did nothing about (we didn't think much of it) then we beeped on the way out. They called a manager up who just said "give it to me" my brother pulled out with phone wallet and a packet of vitamin c he came in with that they didn't recognize. They said "we can run it through our system" and my brother said go ahead. Realizing they were wrong they told us to leave the store and never come back.

Rude employees!

I'm done with Hobby Lobby! I shopped there once or a twice a week faithfully for 10 years. I tried to exchange some unused ribbon one day. I had the receipt and everything. I was only looking to get back about $10 from it all, but was planning on shopping for other things after the exchange. The cashier tells me to hold on and comes back a few minutes later telling me to go ahead and shop and when I come back up they will just do an exchange. No problem. So when I got ready to check out the cashier informs me that they measured the 3 things of ribbon and all 3 had been used!!! I laughed in her face saying, "they weren't used at all!!" " why would I return 3 things of used ribbon when I bough 11 to begin with!! Seems like I would have brought them all back?!" She was so rude after that and said, "well you lied, they have been used so we can't take them back!" I was humiliated! I ended up telling her to keep all the other items I planned on purchasing and left the store. I got in my car and called my husband crying telling how embarrassed I was. Well he got home from work and decides to measure all 3 things of ribbon himself, every single one was the it's correct original length! I was furious!! We called the manger who said to come back in for the refund. So we immediately went up, because at this point it wasn't about the money but the way I had been treated. When we arrived the manager asks to hear my side of the story. After telling him he says, "the cashier is fairly new and was told by another employee to say they had been cut, because most of the time they are. She was trained incorrectly" no sorry no nothing! I proceeded to ask him if this was how Hobby Lobby trained their employees? To assume everyone is a thief and a liar? He just kept saying we will get you a full refund ma'am. I told him that he was right about that! Because I have a receipt and it should have never been an issue to begin with?! I let him know how angry I was that I was called a liar in front of my impressionable 3 year old twin girls, and a line full of strangers. Only to find out the liar was the employee. I also didn't appreciate driving 25 miles home to turn around and come back. He never said a word only gave me my refund. I never once raised my voice or anything. I have never even made a complaint on any website or called a manger to complain! I let things slide a lot. But this incident had and still has me super mad. I wrote the corporate office who in return just sent an email saying sorry. But that's all I've gotten. No coupons asking me to please come back in, something.... Just to show they value their customers, would have been nice. But nope. So I have now become an avid lover of JoAnn's and Michael's. Haven't been back there since!!

Bad / rude cashiers

This is my 3rd time writing out my complaint guess there's a reason for this to be difficult. I've read the reviews on your stores and the complaints match mine on the way we are treated by your cashiers. I gave your store one last try today and this unprofessional behavior is sending me right back to Joanne's and Michaels. They WANT my business, you clearly do NOT!
I'm canceling my email subscription as of today also!

ANOTHER rude cashier!

Today we went in to hobby lobby ( even though I wasn't going to again because of rude or unprofessional cashiers) I thought I would give them one more try. Staff on floor were friendly. We got to the register and the cashier started to ring the items up. I was with my husband and the cashier NEVER said Hi,welcome how was your shopping nothing to ether of us until I showed her the coupon. She said we don't take snap shots of coupons but THIS time I will!.( I went to my email and showed her that coupon and she rudely said " I already put it in". Long story short , this was another rude unprofessional ( gum smacking- gum chewing) cashier.
We spent over $100 today to be treated like we were putting her out. We won't be going back to hobby Lobby . I'll be sticking with Michaels and Joanne where I'm ALWAYS greeted with a HELLO and a THANK YOU! I deleted my E-mails from your company also. I read the complaints made by other customers and a lot of them sounded just like my complaint. Suggestion: Arrange classes for your employees on how to treat your customers properly!!

Always Rude about Retrns

I purchased a framed art piece from this store, when I put it on the wall in my bathroom, you could see the paper backing sticking out from behind the frame. I looked for my receipt but could not find it so I called and asked what the return policy was, they said that w/o a receipt they could do exchange or gift card within a limited time (I think three or four weeks). I was going in to pick up a custom framed piece, so I decided I would exchange the art that was in my bathroom. I brought it in, went to register and the guy behind the register was new and said he had to get his manager, to which I said, great, I had to pick up my custom framing order while he got advice from the manager. I got back to the register and the guy said he could not take this back. I asked to speak to the manager, the asst manager came over and was extremely rude and demeaning. She said that they do not carry the art piece that I brought in (even though there was a hobby lobby sticker on the back) and suggested that I had changed the sticker to perpetrate fraud! Who has time to switch stickers for an item that cost $20.00? I was so stunned by this "service professional's" accusations that I wanted to leave the custom framed piece, but it was an old photo of my dead grandmother, so I paid the hundred dollars for the custom piece and left with both pieces. That assistant manager, Jennifer, was so mean and insistent that the art was not theirs, and accusing me of trying to perpetrate fraud, that I was literally shaking with rage! I called the next day to complain to the real manager and she said that she was sorry that the asst manager was rude, but she could not take the art back w/o a receipt or proof that it was something they carried.
I let it go, put the picture back on the wall and went about my business. Yesterday, about 3 months later, I was at the hobby lobby wasting time, when I saw the exact picture that the rude manager insisted that they never carried in the framed art area for sale in fact there were 2 of them priced at $39.99. I went home and called the store to speak to manager, explained what happened, asked if she remembered me, she said no, and I said that I was bringing the art back.
I get to the store and had to chase down a cashier, told her the story, she looked confused, called another lady over so I explained again. This lady went to look for the art in the store and there was a customer waiting behind me, so I went to show the second lady where I saw the art. When we got back to the cashier area, there was a pretty big line, the second lady went to another register. I thought she would be taking care of my business, but she actually asked for the next person in line w/o telling me what she would do about my art. So the original cahsier's line opened and I went up to her, she came out from behind the register and asked the person in the other line to come over. I was pissed! She said, "he was here before you!" I replied that I had been there longer and she knew that. She then told me that they would not be able to take the piece back b/c it was damaged... I told them that I would never shop there again and that I may take them to small claims court, which would probably not be worth it. I had to get out of there before I lost all control and threw the art at one of those idiotic cash takers. Needless to say, I would not shop there again.

Item found in bag

I found an item in bag after PURCHASING what I paid for, had receipt. Noticed the item in bag, turned around and went back into the store and told them it was in the bag and handed it to the cashiers who looked confused. I ALWAYS shop there and always PAY for my items. I was surprised to see the small 'bracelet' like item at bottom of bag but immediately asked if it belonged to them or to the store. They thanked me for it but looked confused. The cashiers need to pay better attention to what they put in the bag. That could have belonged to another customer who actually PAID for it.

they blame people for stealng when they don't

Because my daughter walked in with her purse behind her which they did not get a good look at and was going out and the purse had a back view of it and it looked bigger they sent her picture to police said she stole stuff in there. Bu they didn't see or have proof. She didn't any way. Good Christian company right? My Bible's 10 commandments say "THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THEY NEIGHBOR"

Accused of theft

My daughter is an artist and works with spray paints. She was shopping and she has a rather large bag due to having small kids. One of the cans fell into her bag, right infront of an employee. My daughter looked at her and said, omg I wasn't stealing, it fell. They both laughed and sales clerk stated she saw what happened and knew it was an accident. Needless to say 10 min later daughter purchased her paints and other items and was stopped outside by management and taken to office where police were called. My daughter was in tears. She's 30 yrs old, not a child. The cops took her purse and no items found. My daughter explained the can that fell in her purse and the clerk that was standing there but they never called to question the clerk. The cops told my daughter she was fine and obviously a mistake was made. No ticket, no arrest. HL told my daughter never to return, took her photo and said she was banned. 3 weeks later she got a bill in the mail demanding 265.00 because she had stolen from the store and the state of Texas allows them to demand payment on thefts in this amount....mind you there was NO theft and cops told manager there was even a mistake on HL part. Our lawyer said throw it away they can't force you to pay anything. I'm so upset by this. Isn't it THEM who should pay HER for false accusations?? I now do not shop at HL and never will again. We are a very artistic family and I scrapbook, I refuse to give them my money!

False shoplifting charges

Entering the store - I went to the jewelry isle to find crimp beads and I picked some items off of racks; As I was looking at other things in the store, I remembered that in my purse was a plastic bag of tools, crimpers and wire used to hang my carvings in a show last weekend. I removed a couple of packages from my bag to compare the others with and realized that I had picked up more of the same size, so I returned the ones that I had picked up to the jewelry isle and picked up some key rings instead, I then proceeded to the check out counter with my purchases and told the young man that I was putting my things back in my purse, paid for my purchases and started to leave the store when the manager and security accused me of stealing and took me to the office. We watched the videos and they showed me taking the items from the shelf, it showed me returning to the shelf and that is all - it never showed me concealing anything, never any intent to steal anything - I tried to tell him that the items that he took from my purse was mine - paid for at a store in Austin, told him that I had receipts, but not with me as I was just passing through town to another showing of my art works. I offered to provided them if he would only let me go get them. But instead he never ever offered any proof of his accusations, never asked the sales clerk if he could back my story, but rather had the officers write up a citation to appear in court and would not let me leave the room without signing a paper stating that if I ever enter another Hobby Lobby I will be charged with trespassing! I did provide the receipts to the Judge and she dismissed the case, but the manager stole my belongings; literally "kidnapped" me into signing the paper (that is what the Judge called it)-and embarrassed, frightened and harassed me as I have never been treated before. What can a person do to regain their self-pride after something like this. I teach crafts, create woodcarvings and show my art work all over Texas and New Mexico - I have spent a lot of time and money with this chain of stores - and now to be banned from all of them without probable cause.

Unwritten return policy

In Hobby Lobby's defence, our systems are very out dated. we can not look up anything through our system, with or without a receipt. we can do returns to the credit card for merchandise, but there is no way for us to return a gift card. and quite honestly, I don't think any place is able to or even will return a gift card. your best bet is to just keep it and spend it the next time you shop there- if you decide to go back. and the gift card never expires so it could be a year from now that you go there and you can still use it.
sorry on behalf of Hobby Lobby!

Unwritten return policy

I decided to return a 1 week old gift card I purchased. I had my original receipt, the original gift card, and a valid drivers license as the return policy states.

The cashier who assisted me did not know how to process this type of transaction so she called the manager. The manager stated he wasn't sure how to do this, he left for about 1 minute and came back and said, "no I'm sorry gift cards are not refundable" I asked to see the policy on that because the only one I can see was on the back of my receipt and on the partition wall behind the cashier and neither one of them states anything on 'no returns on gift cards if you are the original purchaser'. Why is this? Nobody can show me the policy. How can the manager not know, then come back 1 minute later and be very sure you cannot. All the manager kept stating was that it was their policy by their corporate office.

This was only the 2nd time I stepped into the Hobby Lobby, and I will be sure not to go back. My trip to make the return was a total waste of my time, I hate going to that side of town and nobody there can make any sense of this issue.

If I'm wrong then I can accept that, but I truly don't believe I'm in the wrong.

Unwritten return policy

If the corporate office has a policy, all the stores have to follow it regardless of what individual managers would like to do. Most stores don't allow you to return a gift card or trade it for cash (I actually don't think ANY do).

Awful experience

My wife visited Hobby Lobby on 11-4-09. Went to front counter to pay and was immediately accused of trying to steal money from the company. Assistant manager further accused her and stated she did not want to see my wife in her store again. Very rude, exceptionally arrogant. Would not patronize Hobby Lobby for any reason nor recommend it to anyone else. There are far better companies to give your money to that would appreciate having you as a customer. Nobody should have to be treated in such a manner because a mistake was made to patronize Hobby Lobby.

Awful experience

Why is it so easy for people to generalize every single store of a company when only one or two locations may be at fault? There's always going to be a disrespectful store just as there's always going to be that one nasty customer.
