We walked in on a manager or supervisor(Patience I guess), shouting at her juniors, the shouting carried on in our presence, at the tills she was still yelling, which resulted to the female cashier not greeting us. She was so upset and emotional, I had to ask for the manager's name, hopefully I got the correct one. With all due respect, can she respect us , do whatever she's trained to do to her staff in our absence. No customer service is going to be given in that environment.

Humiliating Body search

The below complaint was reported to Edcon on 30 July already. Up to now, 10 August, no feedback, not even a call from the Regional manager who is said to attend to the case.

I went shopping with my wife on 29 July in Jet store at Mabopane central city. After we selected the items, my wife went to the fitting to check if the clothes are fitting.

In the mean time I went to stand in the queue. She came back and we paid for the clothes that fits.

We were then stopped by the security at the exit who told my wife that we need to go to the fitting room. My asked her why, she said she will explain there. We then went off to the fitting room with humiliation while staff and other customers were watching us being escorted to the fitting room.

I had the till slip and the package that we paid for. With humiliation we just followed the instruction. She didn't even explain why we are going there. Upon our arrival at the fitting room, the security guard told my wife to undress. We just entered the main door of the fitting room and she told her to undress with an open door while other customers are in the fitting room. My wife refused and told her how she can undress with the door open. The security guard violated my wife's right to Privacy and Dignity as stipulated in the Bill of rights. She didn't even explain why she is searching her. My wife was strip searched by the security guard in the new room with no explanation.

While she was busy strip searching my wife, they called one of the Jet staff members to come and search me as well. I was so humiliated and embarrassed. The male Jet staff member was reluctant to search me and asked the security guard to why the search. The security guard instructed him to search me with no reason given.

The Jet staff member strip searched me. I really felt my rights as customer are violated. After their strip search, they didn't find anything on us.

I then requested to speak to the store manager. I asked the security guard her name and she refused to give me her name in from of the Store manager. The security guard gave my wife her false name which was different to what the manager said. The security guard didn’t have a name tag on.

I asked the security guard why they are humiliating us like they did with the body search. She said in the presence of the manager “I received an anonymous tip off”.

I understand that companies have a right to take measures to reduce shoplifting, but not at the expense of the customer’s dignity.

The store was glad to take my money at the till, and yet humiliated me and my wife in form of other customers in the shop.

I believe the store is having footage of what transpired. This is really degrading human dignity.

I need Jet store to compensate me for the humiliation and for violating my rights together with my wife. I didn't even use their fitting rooms but I was strip searched. Our right to Privacy was violated and our Right to Human Dignity was also violated by the store that I have been supporting for almost 20 years as their client.
