The documentation is a little lacking. I figured out on my own that Magic Jack requires that you have internet service. You can attach Magic Jack to a computer (that is connected to the internet) or a modem. Many of the internet providers bundle telephone service with internet service. So a land line or cell phone may be cheaper than having to get the internet service just to use Magic Jack. Magic Jack may save you 5$ a month over internet phone bundling programs. (VOIP, look it up) You may have some minor brain damage if you did not realize this before getting this device. Given this, I highly suggest you do not try challenging activities such as boiling water. As it does require water and fire.
