Refund as per instructions
We purchased a mattress from Mattress Giant on December 2, 2007.
A "SUPERWARRANTY MAGI SEAL 10 YEAR STAIN PROTECTION" was suggested by our salesman, the cost of which would be refunded if applied for at the end of the 10 yr period.
The requirement was that it had to be applied for, in writing, within one month after the expiration of the 10th year.
I sent my letter, registered mail, return receipt requested, (cost $20) to assure delivery.
I never got a return receipt, so of course, no refund.
From all the complaints I have read, I think Magi Seal is running a "legitimate" scam, and Mattress Giant and whatever other retailers who are pushing those protection plans, are in collusion with them. Probably for a sizeable commission for every contract they can sell for Magi Seal.
Magi Seal is located in Canada, so it is probably pretty well insulated from any legal restrictions which could be imposed on it.
In addition, since the cost of their contracts is generally in the area of $100, it hardly seems worthwhile to seek any recovery through legal channels.
The saying "Let the Buyer Beware" is truly appropriate in these situations.23968
