GT-1 was afforded the opportunity to have his motor repaired under warranty but he declined because he decided after the fact that he did not like the warranty which was clearly laid out for him in advance of acquiring the motor. He has been extremely combative throughout the entire process and has resorted to extortion and threats. I refuse to work with a customer like that. Only customer out of hundreds of exceedingly satisfied customers.

MercRestor provides an expensive restoration service for Mercury outboard motors. For about $4,300, you provide them an older Mercury motor and they will "totally rebuild and restore it to as new condition". Unfortunately this is not always the case and any shortfall on their part will result in lengthy debate and denial of claim. This happened on two occasions to two different buyers regarding the tilt and trim unit on the motor. The issues were never resolved as the labor costs and shipping to replace the bad unit far exceeded the problem. Although MercRestor claims to have a warranty, this is for parts only and no labor. With outboard motors, the labor cost will be much greater than the parts cost. The sad part is that the owner is an employee of Mercury and does this work on the side. If you want a Mercury rebuilt, take it to an authorized dealer who will warranty both the parts and the labor should an early failure occur.
