failure to terminate contract and charges arising from this

On 14.01.17, I took out a DSTV package with Multichoice making it clear when the commencement and end date should be. I was buying this for tenants. I do not watch DSTV myself. The consultant indicated that the contract would need to be cancelled before the end date but she had noted when this should happen and would ensure it was.

As the end date was about 2 weeks away, I phoned the number on my contract and reminded them again I wished to cancel my contract from 13.03.20. I was fully paid up until this point.

Despite my face to face communication with Multichoice AND a follow up phone call, when I was told my instructions would be actioned, the contract continued for a further week. I had no idea this had happened. I did not watch DSTV from the date I'd requested the service be cancelled. Naturally I assumed the package was no longer available.

It came as some surprise therefore to find in early 2020 I was repeatedly being contacted by Multichoice by phone. Initially I thought they were trying to market their services. But after a few calls and text messages I realised they were chasing me for a payment. This payment was for the extra week after my cancellation date they continued to provide the service because of the failure of 2 of their staff to communicate my end date. After this extra week they terminated the contract as no payment had been forthcoming.

I have contacted their customer services/on-line help departments repeatedly to have this outstanding payment removed from my account. Its like talking to a robot. Most of the responses do not even attempt to address my complaint. I have attempted to escalate the issue as clearly the people I get through to are not sufficiently qualified to address these nuances. I even had a supervisor promise to investigate and email me back. I've heard nothing. Its a complete sham. I've got absolutely nowhere. This has been going on for at least 6 months now. Their service is diabolical and they are still putting in their time chasing me for an outstanding debt that arises from their failure.
