Awful company
I have been in the business for a while now and get the routine once a month call from New York Life whether I want to hear from them or not. I did get a chance to talk to one of their managers and asked him to place me on their do not contact for any reason list. I do not like the idea of a full frontal assault on friends and relatives. Sales are hard enough, however, insurance sales are reality of everyday life and in most cases, you are doing your clients a favor when you sell the need not your commission and then follow up when they have a question or request. I also noticed that at most Job Fairs in my location, the New York Life table is routinely bypassed. Most folks want a salary and are really not equipped to run their own business. I also have observed the hiring tactics of most insurance companies. The favorite tactic, hire as many as you can, provide little training and see who sticks is really sad given the conditions of the economy. Hiring managers need to really start reading the resumes they are pulling from Monster and Career builder before contacting anyone. Whats really interesting to me that it clearly states in my profile, "If your are an insurance company, I am not interested." Another sad thing that some of these insurance hiring managers are doing is having the assistant call to arrange the interview. I never respond to assistants and kindly informed the assistant of this and please do not contact for any reason. The only reason I am in the insurance job I have now is due to the professionalism of the hiring manager who talked to me.
