Two young men visited tonight, a Friday at 7:00pm, claiming to be from Ontario Energy Board and needing to inspect water heater and furnace. They went downstairs with my husband to inspect, didn't say much about water heater except to mention it was a rental but took panel off furnace to inspect. Then claimed because furnace is over 20 years old and vented through the chimney it needed to be replaced immediately. We just bought our house last year and had a thorough house inspection, we know that when the furnace does eventually stop working it will need to be vented according to new standards which I explained that we knew. The two young salesmen continued to push and walked upstairs in my home with dirty winter boots after I made it clear we were finished. They wanted to see our electrical and natural gas bills to ensure we were receiving clean energy credits - I refused to show them but they kept pushing my husband. Finally, they left a handwritten note for my husband to phone in the next day or two with the name Brandon Leach and 519 area code (southern Ontario). Our furnace did not kick on at all this evening or overnight. My husband investigated and they did not replace the panel properly which caused the furnace to not turn on because of a safety mechanism. I bet that was the plan so our furnace no longer works and we have to contact them to enter a contract for a new furnace!
