Inwas given tetracycline as a very young chikd due to severe childhood bronchitis. As a result my adult teeth grew through discoloured and grey. I was teased as a child and this has had a knock on effect way into my adult life (im 52 now)
I had six upper teeth crowned when i was 16 and have just had to have two removed due to gum disease.....my dentist said inhave done well considering the amount of time i have had crowns. The remaining crowned teeth are also starting to get loose so no doubt these will have to be removed in the next couple of years.
I find my remaining teeth are getting darker as the years are going by. I did enquire to a medical negligence solicitor regarding compensation but was told it has to be done no more than three years after the event!! I beg to differ. Those poor babies whose mothers were given thalidomide to combat morning sickness during pregnancy eventually got compensation to help them, so what about us?? Ok, i understand we dont have any physical problems as such but what about the mental torture we have had to endure for all these years? My hand was constantly over my mouth if i talked and when people did see my teeth i had so many people ask if i were a heavy smoker or ever took drugs!! My teeth have been such a let down for me, it just seems so unfair not to have been the confident person i am inside. I hold back so as not to draw attention to myself, i could have gone far but lacked the confidence to do so.
