Salad Bar Hours?

Did you know that if you want a salad from the salad bar at Publix that it doesn't open until 10am? Even if all of the salad ingredients are out already at 8:30am, it is apparently acceptable to let a customer know that it doesn't open until an hour and a half later.

I found this out while waiting to use the only pair of tongs that were set out at that time because another customer was using them. The employee setting up the salad bar (which again, was completely set up, minus utensils) comes out and says "I'm still setting up, this doesn't open until 10." So I set my container down in front of him and walked away then he said "well i'm putting the spoons out now." I was close to turning around and asking what the point of telling me that the salad bar doesn't open until 10am then? Why have it all ready if it is going to sit for an hour and a half? Why not set up at 9:30?

A real tick me off.

Publix

I work in customer service and have for over a year now. When I was hired on I was hired in FL. Now that I have moved I am extremely dissapointed in how unorganized and horrible the management is. They don't know how to make the schedule work. What I mean is, some days we have way too many people working up front with short shifts and then another day there aren't enough. I work in a state that people make much more money than I do, doing the same job and having a better experience. The management has no idea what theyre doing, the back room is always way too full of stock, and the mop room is utterly disgusting. I know it may sound nit picky but I am miserable everytime I come into that store because I know it's not being run the way publix is supposed to be run. I am seeking other employment, does anyone have any suggestions on how to put in my 2 weeks if I get the other job? I know the management is going to guilt trip me and I don't know if I can handle handing them over my resignation.

Publix where working is a living hell

I have worked with public for 4 years and I have seen multiple employees pass by most of them are nice at least the cashiers and naggers are however some of the store managers and district managers are so greedy and verbally abusive that all they do is boss you around and tell you what to do no matter how stupid or useless it may be and if you don't they'll call you all sorts of names and look for excuses to fire all because of 1 mistake you made these people want you to be on your feet doing perfect all of the time and they don't care if you have the flue or even if you're 70 years old and dying of cancer if you work at publix you have to do all of the work while the higher up in charge managers just sit around and do nothing now I am not going to point fingers who this rant of mine is just a reminder of how careless the publix managers, and sometimes customers, can be to the lowest rank in the public work force such as a bagger or cashier so far after working for public for 4 years I would to say that I am greatly disappointed

Employment

Working at this store is absolutely awful. If you're looking to work at a supermarket that gives you benefits, you won't be eligible for any of those benefits if you don't meet the required amount of hours each week, which, depending on where you are in life, can be damn near impossible.

The schedule is controlled by a faulty computer algorithm that gives more hours to people who have a higher amount of hours of availability. If you take college courses, or have a second job, you'd be lucky to get around 20 hours a week. However, the scheduling system also makes exceptions. If you're a high school student (with maybe a 4-10PM daily availability), you can average 30 hours a week. On the flip side, if your hours of availability are from Noon to whenever all week, and you take college courses (online or otherwise), you'll average 20-25 hours a week. What's more is if they know you're in poverty, they WILL take advantage of your dependence on them, and you'll average 15-22 hours a week like I do. This scheduling makes you ineligible for food stamps (Florida's prerequisite is 20 hours of work a week), so if you depend on those, this ain't the place you want to be employed at.

But let's suppose you aren't a college or high school student. Maybe you're in your late 20s or, hell, maybe even 60s if you want. If you fall within this age range of late 20s-whenever, I'm telling you with utmost certainty that you don't want to work here. They WILL take advantage of your age, and they WILL screw you over on hours every time you run to corporate about it. If you have a bad manager, then you're screwed and there's no way out unless you can get another job.

And to address benefits for a sec, they're a complete joke. Up and down. You can't purchase or even touch any Publix stock until you've worked three years, with 1000 hours each year. Depending on your stature, this makes the one benefit that Publix touts the most over every other supermarket nearly unobtainable to the common associate. It's a complete sham. It only exists as incentive to keep you working there. They fear competition, and the entire store is more of a vanity project than an actual supermarket.

Don't work here. Don't shop here. Publix is a hell run by neglectful dunces. Go work at Target or Home Depot or something, just don't work here. I'm posting this in hopes it maybe encourages some people to go down a better path than I accidentally chose to go down. Don't fall for the spectacle, don't fall for their smiles, and most importantly, don't let them convince you there aren't better places to work. There are, just walk past the place with the green sign.

Terrible website. no price information on ANY product.. you would think a simple little thing like THE PRICE OF THE PRODUCT would be on the description, but no, a bunch of amateurs thought they could build a competent site. what a joke.

Rotten food

Purchase sausage, open package and it was the most awful smell! If someone would had eaten, it would be really dangerous. Produce has been very low quailty and bakery always gets cake orders messed up. Not to mention pies are uncooked. Stockholders making big money, Meanwhile the consumer are getting Walmart quality. Maybe being unfair to Walmart. Publix needs to wake up and start buying better quality. Remember Publix, the bigger you are the more you are expected to deliver what you charge the people for and your quality promise.

Poor customer service

I have shopped at the Brookstone Publix (Acworth, GA) for over 16 years. There has been a steep decline in customer service over the last few years. They are consistently out of stock on the same products (they try to carry too many items and run out of stock on the basics). But worse, the managers are SO rude! When the cashiers or bag boys are overly busy, the managers just sit around. They even block the entrance while they smoke! Why don't they help out the "lower level" employees when the store is busy? In previous years, the managers would come to help check out or bag when the lines were long. Not anymore!
Also, I routinely bag my own groceries b/c they are short staffed. I don't mind, but just today the cashier started ringing up the next customer before I had even finished! Why couldn't she help me out? If nothing else, WAIT until I'm done!
When they are out of stock and you ask about it, they just shrug their shoulders and blame it on "the buyer" and then they join in with complaining that their corporate offices just change the mix of products all the time and that next time I come in, it will be another mix of products. Wow. They never just say "I'm sorry, let me check when the item will be in." They just don't want to be bothered I guess.
I have only written a complaint letter three times in my life, I believe, but I just can't believe how fast and how far the customer service has declined!
And for those of you on this site that work there, I'm sorry! One of the cashiers at this store was pregnant and they made a big issue over her using a chair while checking people out. In Europe, they ALWAYS use chairs rather than stand. Why not? Why not try and make the employees happy? It doesn't make them lazy to sit and do the same job. It seems as if management doesn't treat anyone-employee OR customer with respect anymore. I'm changing to Kroger!!

YOUR WEBSITE SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just cannot get over how horrible the website is for placing orders. Constantly doesn't work properly. I've been ordering online now since you first opened the website and I kept thinking "of course it will get better" but still horrible. Terrible on my phone and on my desktop. I have had to create 7 different lists and now when I try to click on the items I want, then "add to my order" it says....no items on your order. So stupid. Why cant you make it easy like ordering anything else online. You see a product, click add to cart, then checkout. So simple!!! and if I order the same lunch meat 2 to 3 times a week wouldn't you think you could create an option to just duplicate the order from the last time and click one button to submit???

LONG HOURS

DOES ANYONE FROM CORPORATE REALLY LOOK AT THESE REVIEWS? DO THEY ACT ON THEM? I AM NERVOUS AS MY SON HAS JUST STARTED WORKING FOR PUBLIX AS A GROCERY CLERK. THE HOURS ARE LONG AND WORK GRUELING. PLUS HE GOES TO COLLEGE. HE IS SUPPOSE TO BE PART TIME BUT THEY ARE GIVING HIM THE MAXIMUM ALLOWED WHICH I BELIEVE IS 35 HOURS! ISN'T THAT FULL-TIME? CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. HE ONLY WANTS 20 HOURS A WEEK BUT HAS NOT ADDRESSED IT WITH MANAGEMENT. I CAN SEE WHY! I WOULD BE SCARED TO APPROACH THINGS OF THIS NATURE WITH MANAGEMENT FROM WHAT I AM READING. THEY ALSO MAKE HIM WORK BEYOND HIS 8 HOUR SHIFT BY AN HOUR. I HOPE THIS DOES NOT BECOME A HABIT. I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT PUBLIX ARE GOOD TO THEIR EMPLOYEES BUT I AM BEGINNING TO THINK OTHERWISE. MY SON HAS A SLIGHT DISABILITY AND I WOULD BE APPALLED IF HIS MANAGER EMBARRASSED HIM IN FRONT OF OTHERS OR EVEN YELL AT HIM. IF I EVER FOUND OUT THAT THEY DID THAT, I WOULD COMPLAIN TO THEIR SUPERVISOR AND CORPORATE AND FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. PLEASE TELL ME MANAGEMENT WILL BE CONSIDERATE OF THEIR EMPLOYEES, OR THAT JUST A PIPE DREAM.

Publix

I recently visited a Publix Supermarket and I was appalled to find the cashiers were unable to drink water at their station unless they were given permission by a manager. What horrid treatment of their staff!!! I called to complain and got the standard "it's our policy" statement. The tags on the grocery bag persons stating that they cannot accept tips is bad enough. What an unsympathetic company! I can understand that staff cannot eat at their stations but gee whiz... this is becoming a bit much.

I fully believe that they mistreat and brainwash their employees. I'm boycotting this organization. There are cheaper stores with better customer and staff service.

To the staff - you deserve better. Try Chick Fil A; you get better benefits and Sundays off.

Unfair Treatment of Employees

I can not believe after the years of service my child has given Publix that she is treated so bad. She has worked there for over 10 years. . Many awards and many customer compliments for excellent work. But they treat her awful....many long work hours and no pay. Yes they treat their managers awful. They work 50 to 60 sometimes even more hours and only get paid for 40. It gets worse every year and I really didn't think it could get any worse. She has asked for a transfer to a store closer to home for months and has been ignored. I have not shopped at Publix for many years because of how she is treated. If you are a loving family member or friend of a Publix employee, help me please. Don't shop at Publix!!! They seem to brainwash them, make them feel so bad that they have no confidence in themselves. If anyone knows what I can do to help people understand how bad they treat their employees, please let me know. I would welcome a grocery chain that treated their employees right. Every year I watch their hypocritical commercials about how they care and they care for no one, their managers included..... I'd love a replacement grocery store like the one this one used to be. Ok you can tell I'm really hurt about how she is treated. She is so sweet and just lets them run all over her. Please pray with me the people in charge, asst. store manager, store managers, district managers have a change of heart about how they treat others. God is good and the good will overcome this evil.

I hate working for this company so much

I'm a college student and have worked many other food jobs, such as Wendy's, Beefs, Winn Dixie, and a local steakhouse. I thought this would be an awesome company to work for, but I was so wrong! First most, they don't care about YOUR life outside of work. If you call out (even for something serious) they get mad and will literally plea with you to come in. I called out ONE Sunday (5 hours before my shift) and the customer service manager basically told me I had no choice because Sunday's are a busy day. Umm, no. If I am throwing up, wouldn't you rather me be at home, anyways? She then hangs up the fun with a disgruntled attitude.
Speaking of, the same manager one night comes to my department when we were CLEARLY slammed and shortstaffed and literally just stands around watching us. Here's a thought: get your lazy ass up from holding the wall and help us out.. She then finds a fraction of leftover mac n'cheese that a coworker and I were eating (we have to throw it away anyway and we were starving) and threatens to take the issue to the store manager because I'm a "thief". Lay off your high horse, lady. We were wasting it anyways and neither of us got a break, so what do you want and why be THAT person?
Managers treat you like cattle. They don't care if you just worked a 12-11 shift (with no break). They will turn around and schedule you at 4am (happens at least once a week). In fact, one of my coworkers actually got scheduled that shift and they DIDN'T give him a break and, where his break was supposed to be, they wrote "YOU WILL WORK ANOTHER HOUR TONIGHT." As a team, we're exhausted working in my department. Some of the customers are rude, condescending, and stuck-up and we are constantly busy and running out of shit, which causes such fatigue in all aspects.
Recently, my coworker had to call out for a dislocated shoulder (that he made worse while working) and my dept. manager screamed at him even though he had a note! Um, yeah. Let me work and you guys can get hit with a major lawsuit?
It's funny- I used to have such an optimistic attitude about customer service and retail, but this job has changed me (and I was warned by my coworkers that it would). I work around such negative energy because everybody is so unhappy and wanting to quit. Literally, people are just slowly calling out one-by-one and slacking. I would go to upper management or corporate about the problem, but I instinctually don't trust them. My store managers look down to us, anyways.
The only reason I keep this job is because they are, surprisingly, good about giving days off (I need that for school), but overall I hate working for this company. My coworkers are about the only thing I look forward to seeing, but other than that I dread working. Do yourself a favor, don't get trapped by the GREEN MONSTER.

Is Publix Next?

When hired by Publix, there is or used to be an employee orientation. In this, we are told the history of Publix and its founder, Mr. George Jenkins. We are told how Publix will treat us like family and how they are different from other corporations. No doubt, Publix is financially successful, is expanding with new locations and pays cash for these locations.

The issue is this....Product vs. People. Somewhere in the last few years, Publix has lost its way and has turned its back on what our Founder established. This is disappointing and unacceptable. Any time a company is more interested in the product on its shelf then the employees well being and happiness, the company has failed. The most important position in a store like Publix should be the associate stocking the shelves and/or any associate in consistent, daily contact with that product and their customers. Associates control everything from damage and theft to customer interaction. This is the basis and most important functions of any business. Is Publix Next?...is it the next dirty, poorly managed corporation with discouraged, angry, disgruntled employees? Is it the next location for someone to carry out an act of workplace violence as seen in history and most recently? Let's hope the answer is a profound, NO!

After conversing with numerous associates from multiple store, the experiences are all too similar and all too real. Loyal, dependable associates being passed up by younger, less-experienced new hires, managers making poor decisions, deceitfulness and associate and employee and the like. I have taken it upon myself to not fight against the corporation...but fight FOR the corporation, the real corporation. The one Mr. Jenkins founded, not the one poor managers have created. With that said, I have used the chain-of-command and presented the concerns of myself and majority voice of fellow associates and spoke with everyone from Team Leader to Human Tesources to Regional Manager which is above a District Manager. In every case, I have been met disappointment and no resolution. Please be confident I am fighting for you, the faithful, good-intention associate and Publix as a whole. Whatever has occurred is not just wrong, it is unjust!

I am acting as the ambassador, the Employee Advocate that too many are either afraid to do or do not know how to do. Please know there is someone on your side looking to present this to the person at Publix who TRULY cares about Publix, the associates and our customers and not just the stock value or their 401k or their income! I will fight until there is resolution and change back in the direction it was designed it go...People before Product! Stay together, Speak up!

Treatment of Employees

Customers and Employees do not come first. Money and Management does. George Jenkins is turning over his grave at what his company has become. Earlier in 2015 I saw an employee get yelled at by a hefty assistant store manager for tossing the bread out a little too early but close to closing time and the Assistant Store Manager went ballistic. He echoed in the store, he threatened and traumatized the poor employee, his lively hood and employment and then forced the employee to take out the contaminated bread from the trash no less and put it back on the sales floor. It was VILE and DISGUSTING not to mention horrifying that someone in management would do something like this. I wish I had physical proof of this.. But I will say I WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN and makes me question Publix management as a whole.

My hours

I was hired at publix. The customer service manager don't like me. She didn't even schedule me to work for a whole week. I told the manager of the store and he said that he need to give my hours to a full time employee. But I don't understand, why me with no hours? Why not other baggers. Why couldn't the manager treat their employees equal. I felt hurt inside. :( what can I do to get the manager fired? Her name is Marina Culotta

Had to fill out application multiple times due to software issues, very unorganized. No corrective action in place or alternate procedure in place...Winn Dixie has continued to help in these economic times, while publix wastes time and resources on playing games that do not matter, I guess that's why it's too expensive to shop there. Too busy in your business, past etc to help the economy. SHOP WINN DIXIE

untrained and yelled at

My first day on the job I was beiing trained by a fellow bagger. I was told, :It's not that hard", and shown how to bag one thing before he abandoned me. My training at Publix basically consisted of me messing up because I wasn't trained and the managers screamng at me in front of customers. When my first month meeting occurred (after only my first 2 weeks), I was looked down on because i want to become a nurse, not work at Publix forever. One week, i was told by one manager I was doing a wonderful job. The next week i was told that other employees were complaining about me. I was told this in front of a customer and it was very embarassing. When I work 4 hours, i am told I have to take an hour break! So, I only get paid for 3 hours. I turned in my notice today and no one cared! Whenever i called the hotline, I was told this was not their problem.
