Cashiers with no savvy and intuition.

Publix Cashiers have to have everything explained to them. I have a mild disability caused by a DUI driver and I have a more profoundly disabled roommate for whom I shop using our respective SNAP and debit cards, plus some cash. I try to avoid taking cardboard and plastic bags out of the store, so with any product in both outer cardboard packaging and inner plastic/paper packaging, I get rid of the outer box. Everytime I have a longer line to wait in, I put any inner packages in my backpack and keep the cardboard long enough for the UPC bar code to be scanned. Publix cashiers can't ever just scan the UPC without asking stupid questions. Then, when I'm trying to follow the prompts and enter the correct SNAP/Debit PIN the cashier has to make some blathering noise which I guess constitutes "talking". Blah blah blah blah blah, sir? Or I want to get the remaining SNAP balance so I ask the cashier to enter only one item to start with so I get the remaining benefit amount on the receipt. So there I am trying to follow the prompts from the payment terminal, and before I've even completed the one-item transaction, the cashier is stupidly asking, "Are you ready to ring out the other items, blahblah blah blah blah blah?" Why would I want them to start scanning other items if I don't know the available remaining SNAP balance??!

I don't care if I'm the only customer that does things the way I choose to do. I'm on foot, I have limit space in my backpack, I don't want to have to keep up with so much recyclable plastic and cardboard and I'm handling my cash and SNAP benefits as well as those of a wheelchair-confined individual who has a part-time nurse at home. So I do things very differently than somebody with a car and I'm tired of Publix cashiers not being able to figure out what I'm doing, REGARDLESS OF HOW UNCONVENTIONAL I DO THINGS. I should still be able to expect thing to be smart enough to work it all out for themselves without me having to break out flow charts and pie graphs and make them take notes.

It's called "Savvy". It's called "being intuitive".
