Purchased a package of cookies on 12/12/2014 at local Safeway. My son opened them the next day and they were hard and stale. Checked the date and they expired 9 months ago. Returned to Safeway on 12/13/2014 to return cookies and the girl at customer service desk advised me that Customer service closed about 5 minutes ago. I advised the clerk that you will give me a refund for these expired cookies and handed her my receipt. She sent me to a register where I did receive a refund.

I no longer shop at Safeway... their customer service is subpar....

I live in the small village of Roxborough where there is only 1 grocery store "Safeway". Apparently they think this entitles them to sell expired food products. For example this week I purchased some boxed items and as I went to prepare the food my 11 year old pointed out that they had expred over a year ago.. This is consistent with their bakery tryig to get rid of items that were baked ovber a month prior. I noticed they kept unsold st patricks day and Valentines daybakery items on table at fron tof the store for over a month. Don't bother complaining to a store mgr . He does nto care.. Profits first we will worry when someone dies.
Then they advertise bread is free if not hot, well it's rarely hot at this location much less Fresh.. when we called them out on it and asked for our free bread the clerk was angry and threw the bread down the belt. wow, really? yes.
My favorite is the Big ice creme sale spend 10 dollars on any ice creme product and get 5 dollars free. When you check out they advise that actually you get a coupon for next time you come. So next time I go in with my coupon, the checkout clerk says No not free yet, you have to get it your next time.. then he keeps my coupon to boot. Obviously they pray on markets where there is no com0petition, for have you ever seen a line at safeway, not because they have great CS but it's because no one shops there unless desperate. I feel they shouod be investigated for purposefully selling expired food and mis leading sales. Who protects the consumer from this? Safeway reminds me of Ford continueing to sell the Pinto after they realized it was going to blow up and kill x drivers each year. They know what they are doing.
