Racism

The same issue happened with two different employees at self-checkouts in two separate occasions but at the same store. The address of the store is Lakewood Towne Center, 10223 Gravelly Lake Dr SW, Lakewood, WA 98499

The first time was a south east asian middle aged female Safeway employee standing near the Self Checkout place. She was happily talking and giggling with another south east asian decent looking employee. She was just standing at her position and not working. I approached her to ask the passcode for the restroom, I know there's passcode because I was that store's regular costumer. As I did not use restroom every time I shopped at Safeway, I did not know that the passcode changes weekly and the numbers are the digits of the month and the saturday of the week (I found these out very much later on).
I smiled and asked her "Hi, could you tell me the passcode for the restroom?
The lady turned away from me, looked at her feet and mumbled the numbers of the restroom. You could say, she didn't want other people around to hear it? She's too embarrassed a woman is talking about restroom in public place? She's much older than me, she should know that people urinate and defecate, or use restroom to wash their hands. I did not find a chance to talk to the manager of the store that day because I have urgent matters to attend to after grocery shopping.

The second time was a young beautiful white girl. This time, I was pregnant and having morning(all day) sickness. I would vomit 3-4 times a day and nausea hit me hard while i was shopping in the Safeway store and I needed to use restroom, bad. I did not want to throw up in the store. There are a couple of employees at check out aisles but there are many costumers in line.
1.The self check out supervisor girl was the closest to the restroom.
2. Another costumer, a white man and I approached her at the same time.
3. She held up a finger to me (to say 1 moment) and turned to help the guy.
4. I was very close to throwing up at that point that I couldn't even talk and my eyes were tearing up and mouth watering fast.
5. I followed them and (with a very shaking voice) asked for the passcode, (politely again cuz that's my thumb of rule; to be polite)
6. She turned around and looked at me. I was 2-3 feet behind her (I needed to run to the restroom now)
7. She turned back to the self checkout machine.
8. She mumbled the numbers to the machine.
9. I could not hear it and I was very close to letting out projectile of vomit (maybe i should have let it out, at least on her hair, she deserved it)
10. I asked again '07-? (4 digit passcode) The bitch would not turn around again and repeated the passcode a little louder to the machine.
11. The white male costumer looked confused about her behavior, he told me the passcode; he was closer to her and he heard her quite clearly.
12. I said "thank you" to her (very cold and scary, racist people are so scary) back and the guy (sincerely, he was a good man)

I vomited in the restroom and cleaned up the mess I made (It was late and imagine how anyone on cleaning duty would feel when they see vomit to clean up at that hour). I asked to talk to the manager and told him what happened. He told me that any and all costumers can use the restroom. I could have vomited anywhere in the store if I need to.
And he explained about the passcode digits and how they arrange it. He asked if I wanted some water because my throat was hurting and my voice terribly scratchy. I told him about both incidents with the two women mumbling the answer to my question away from me. They could see my cart full of merchandise to mistake me as a non-costumer just walking in to use restroom. I was polite to both of them too. With the second one, it was emergency even. He firmly reassured me he'd talk to the employee and I saw him walking to her and talking to her as I left the store.
I returned to the same Safeway store next week (I really was a regular), the racist white employee was still there. I guess beautiful faces go a very very long way. Beautiful white girls can get away with anything I see.
I am a south east asian woman. I am a citizen of US of A. I am 27, married. I have never committed any crime; I always follow given rules strictly. I am always polite to whoever I am talking to. I don't call people 'bitch' unless they very well deserve it.
I really don't see why I should be treated that way by your employees any other reason than them being racist. Yes a lot of south east asians are terribly racist to fellow south east asian immigrants, if you're not from their country. Personally, I firmly believe there's only one race for us, the human race, period.

I would like to request Safeway add a set of rules to fire employees that display clear racism. I have stopped shopping at Safeway stores for fear of being mistreated again. I understand that there are racists everywhere, but those serving at costumer services should be able to hide their unreasonable hatred towards their targeted races. And if they fail to, their employment should be terminated regardless of their gender and looks and race. But for now, just know that you are losing valuable costumers and their business.
