Sarasas Thailand Problem Schools

Anyone who has worked at Sarasas Thailand will know the problems of working there. They have for a long time taken off money for frivolous reasons such as being late even by 1 minute. At certain of their branches they will not do any photocopying. The worst offender appears to be the Minburi branch and they do not even try to follow the law. They feel they are above it. In a recent case where they fired one Filipino teacher unfairly she sued them and got 300 000 Baht compensation so it seems the tide is turning. When you work for Sarasas and take a day off, they will dock the day’s Salary unless you get a doctor’s note. They seems to be easily rectified since they are now giving AIA cards and you can go to hospital and it will be covered by the AIA card. They will also take off 3000 Baht money at the beginning of the contract for the first 3 months and appear to only give it back to you at the end of the contract. My understanding is this is against Thai Labor Law but they do it anyway. They may offer you housing allowance and then if you do not start on the 1st of the month they may not pay you for it. If you are Filipino they will feel they can do anything they like with no consequence, such as additional duties or move you around in the accommodation. It appears to becoming mandatory that they want you to do reading duty to the kids from 7.15 – 7.45 one morning a week, most of the time it is just looking after them or giving them something to do. They may also one or two sessions of standing duty in the morning to this. They appear to be responding to threats of legal action after a number of cases where they have been sued and lost, and their invincible status where they seem to think they can do anything they like seems to be fading. Filipino teachers are treated much more unfairly than their white “native speaking” counterparts. The books are the key issue and they will be expected to be marked meticulously. They will even tell you how to do the ticks. They will also to tell you to do after every lesson, even if you have lessons back to back. You may also be requested to put on names on every one of your books for 8 classes which could be as many as 240 books x 4. You may be carrying around over 1000 books putting names on them because the parents are too lazy to label their own kids books. They could ask the parents to do it, but do not.

Be warned about Sarasas and the bag of snakes you may be working for.
